Thankfully when Daniel and Sarah decorated the Christmas Tree this year they were colour coordinating - so I had the choice of a gold bauble against gold tinsel or red against.

The bauble is a smallish one at just 32 mm in diameter.

Macro Mondays - theme of December 19, 2022: festive season

Taken for the Macro Mondays theme of Festive Season. A very small detail on a Christmas bauble.

I went for more of a minimal approach this week rather than full on festive bokeh! This is a small cardboard Christmas tree from a cracker pulled on a meal with friends last week. I’m glad I took advantage of the frosty mornings (freezing my baubles off on the decking) earlier in the week as the frost has given way to less photogenic rain now.

I couldn't find my Lego santa who I wanted for this shot, so I searched for blocks. When I found him, he tried to grab me with his Santa claws, I told him to Lego of me ;) Two Lego Christmas sets built, one to go. Have a great week out there everyone!

For today's Macro Mondays theme of 'festive season'. These usually hang on our tree but I took them down and put them on some paper before cropping them to fit the size requirememts . HMM! and a Happy Christmas all ! 🎅 🎄

Well it was bound to happen eventually! Yesterday the light was terrible and nothing was happening, very boring and I even pulled out the fairy lights, still nothing. With a very limited number of small ornaments on display this year I was going to take a pass on this week's Macro Mondays theme after having so much trouble with this little Santa. That was until I woke up and had some beautiful sun coming into the studio! I was bound and determined to make something work. That was until the star of the show fell off the chair and had a wee bit of an accident. Well the show must go on, I'm just going to say this fine little Santa took one for the team this week. Perhaps I can skillfully glue back the pieces and no one will be the wiser. I doubt it but we'll see.

This Santa measures app 2 inches tall, his buddies are 2.25 inches tall so good to go for Macro Mondays. Shot with the Meyer Optik 50mm f/1.8 Oreston, with a Nikon PK-12 14mm Extension Tube, focus stack of 2 images. Direct morning sun for lighting. For the group Macro Mondays, Theme: "Festive Season".

Technical note: The Oreston loves to saturate colors with early morning sunlight especially red, here I desaturated the red berries and dark green of the holly leaves a bit. It also can really tone down bright early morning sunlight. I shot the same scene with the Nikon 55mm Micro and way too much contrast.
