Tulum (Spanish pronunciation: [tuˈlum], Yucatec Maya: Tulu'um) is the site of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city which served as a major port for Coba, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo] The ruins are situated on 12-meter (39 ft) tall cliffs along the east coast of the YucatĂ¡n Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Old World diseases brought by the Spanish settlers appear to have resulted in very high fatalities, disrupting the society, and eventually causing the city to be abandoned.[citation needed] One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is today a popular site for tourists.

This beautiful glacial lake is located in Banff National Park. In the collage below you can see the Banff Hoodoos on the top left, the bird pictured is a Clark's Nutcracker and I am on the upper right at Lake Louise pretending to be slipping off the rocks, haha.
The lower right image shows one of many famed wildlife overpasses that have drastically reduced collisions and allow the safe movement of animals across busy roads. Highway fencing has further reduced fatalities, elk & deer alone by 96%.

Holly berries are somewhat toxic to humans, though their poisonous properties are overstated and fatalities almost unknown.
They are extremely important food for numerous species of birds and are also eaten by other wild animals.
In the fall and early winter the berries are hard and apparently unpalatable.
After being frozen or frosted several times, the berries soften, and become milder in taste.
During winter storms, birds often take refuge in hollies, which provide shelter, protection from predators (by the spiny leaves) and food.

The Wicklow Gap road heads west through the mountains as it passes the old mine workings and village of Glendasan lying in the shadow of Tonelagee mountain. Its a wild, desolate yet somehow hauntingly beautiful place.
Lead ore was discovered here in 1800 and it was mined off and on until 1957. The spoil heaps from the mine shafts are visible on the surrounding hillsides with the main crushing and picking area in the centre of the picture.
Eight miners houses were built here and they called it " Fiddlers Row " as a musician lived in each one so there would be many social gatherings and traditional music sessions in the houses which would have lasted well into the night. I remember seeing an old miner who lived here, being interviewed on tv, a few years ago. He said that he wished he was still living there as it was a magical place and the people were all friends and they helped one another as they were so isolated and a long way from the nearest village. I can understand that and I had to shelter in one of the old ruined cottages when I got caught in a storm one evening. There was a nice feeling to the place.
The mine owners were extremely good to their workers and looked after them helping to build a school and a church in Laragh village. During the great famine of 1847-1850 these miners would have been the lucky ones whilst over 2 million people died and 1 million emigrated.
There were only 3 fatalities in the life of the mine which is a good record considering there was no health and safety back then.
Many of the miners who left here during the times when it was closed went to work in the tin mines in Cornwall, and the copper mines in South America and Australia. Many of their family relatives are still living in these places to this day. Lots of the mineshafts here had Australian titles like the "Botany Bay Mine" or "Van Diemens Mine" which would be directly connected to immigration.
In the 1800s there would have been very few roads in this area. The nearest village was Glendalough and that was 4 miles east of here. Many miners had to walk here and back every day. They used a path which is know as "The Madmans Road " Part of it is visible just above the road on the right hand side. I walked it a few years ago and it is pretty rough, boggy and overgrown in places. It would not have been a nice walk in those times either. I was glad to do it and to think about those who walked it long ago.
I often wonder if you went up there on a stormy winters night and sheltered in one of the old buildings would you hear the music of the musicians who lived in that amazing place, echoing around the valley as it did way back a 100 years ago or would it just be in your imagination? I wonder!

And some song words which seem to fit;
" I know I heard that tune before my friends
But I cant remember when,
Did I hear it on some friendly shore,
Or did I hear on the wind,
Was it written on the sky above,
I think I heard it from some one I loved,
But I never heard it sound so sweet since then,
Now the fiddles in the closet,
Of some daughter of the town
The strings are broke and the bow is lost,
And the covers buttoned down
But sometimes on December nights,
When the air is cold and the wind is rife,
The melody still passes through this town "

This was taken on an early morning trip to high altitude when the geysers were at their most active. It's possible to get in very close and fatalities do occur, quite often when people are taking selfies. The timing of eruptions can be predicted to within a few seconds - a fascinating place. In August 1989 Class 50, 50025 was derailed outside West Ealing station when vandals placed a length of rail across the main line. The locomotive travelled for half a mile before turning on its side. There were no fatalities or serious injuries but the locomotive was so badly damaged it was written off. The locomotive ended up at Vic Berry's scrap yard in Leicester. This photo was taken on 20.1.1990 at the scrap yard. On the 10.3.1991 a serious fire broke out at the scrap yard which led to it's eventual closure in June 1991.
The bushfires are still raging nationwide having started way back in June 2019.
There were 34 fatalities so far including firefighters who so bravely fought the fires so others could be safe and more than 6,500 properties destroyed and not to mentioned a billion animals had perished.
As of 14 January 2020, 18.626 million hectares (46.03 million acres) was burnt or is burning across all Australian states and territories. ... In comparison, the 2018 California wildfires consumed 800,000 hectares (2 million acres) and the 2019 Amazon rainforest wildfires burnt 900,000 hectares (2.2 million acres) of land.
Major cities were blanketed in smoke , schools were closed and sporting events cancelled. The smoke has travelled as far as Chile and Argentina.
Could all this be prevented? Did the authorities see this coming? Who is to be blamed? There is more questions than answers but the main issues have been hijacked and politicised so much so that facts and fallacies are all muddled up.
Suffer the animals, suffer those who are affected and kudos and tributes to those who fight the fires and perished so to keep the rest of us safe !

On this day the rush hour trains out of Hamilton were in turmoil due to an early morning fatality that happened east of Aldershot. This is trip #1706, which is scheduled to be out of West Harbour station at 0613, it passed Bayview about 150 minutes late at 0853. But it featured the rare use of an F59PH on a Lakeshore rush hour train.
Honoring The Fallen
A local church in our area has setup a memorial honoring those killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in the USA.
The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long-term health consequences, in addition to at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. It remains the deadliest terrorist attack in human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States.

CP 7000, the first SD70ACu of the rebuild program rolls CP 135 down the Windsor Sub. On the outskirts of Windsor the train rolls past the elevator at Elmstead. A transload facility was active on the other side of the elevator up until 2015 but a fatality involving an employee, a tractor and rail cars would ultimately end rail service to the facility. CP would tear out the switch not long after, landlocking a tank car on the spur track until it was removed off site in 2020.

The split rim is known as a widowmaker because the tire has a tendency to explode when being inflated if the rim is not seated properly. These rims were finally outlawed because of so many injuries and fatalities.
A fatality on CN near Duplainville earlier in the morning delayed Wisconsin & Southern's T4 for several hours at Slinger and had the train coming west towards Janesville in much better light than normal for August. An almost matched trio of SD40-2s rumble passed the charming and well-maintained Milwaukee Road depot in Whitewater, Wisconsin along the states’ eldest stretch of railroad.

Ghost nets can cause animals and birds to become entangled and weighed down or unable to move, reducing their ability to catch prey and avoid predators. Fatalities are common sights. They are also a major contributor to ocean plastics pollution. While photographing the Northern gannets off the coast of Norway I was shocked to see that it was widely used by the birds as nesting material - so much so that from a distance the nesting sites and islands they nest on changed colour to blues and greens -the common colour of fishing nets! The sheer tonnage of plastic material is staggering!
Sadly it was common to see dead gannets which had become trapped by netting material from which they could not free themselves! This image shows a gannet suspended by one leg - its foot entangled in the plastic. Another particularly distressing image was a gannet with the hooked tip of its bill ensnared in a loop from which its lifeless body hung. Depressing!

One of the very few Lancasters to reach over 100 operations, its final tally being 107.She was the only Lancaster in 9 Squadron on September 15 t h 1944 to hit the German battleship Tirpitz with a "Tallboy Bomb". In all the bomber's career over 200 people flew and crewed "J Jonnie" with not one fatality, a lucky aircraft indeed.
Boiga dendrophila, commonly called the mangrove snake or the gold-ringed cat snake, is a species of rear-fanged snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to southeast Asia. It is one of the biggest cat snake species, averaging 6–8 feet (1.8–2.4 m) in length. It is considered mildly venomous. Although moderate envenomations resulting in intense swelling have been reported, there has never been a confirmed fatality

Please note this could happen to anyone who lets their dogs off the leads especially in the countryside, On the 21st April 2021, It turned out to be a very sad day for our village, a local man walking his dog off the lead, when suddenly the dog ran through a fence (probably after a deer or Rabbit )and tumbled down the bank, this bank is approximately 46 meters steep, so the man decided to try and get to his dog who was stuck on a ledge about half way down,
The dog survived, the sad thing is the man didn’t,
