One of our most numerous (population estimates peg numbers at over half-a-million in North America) but also most seldom seen of owls, the Northern Screech Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is quite skilled at what it does. And, what it does, is hide. During the day, it hides from would-be predators by roosting in tightly-branched spruce trees. Typically it does this low, hanging out at between six and twelve feet off the ground. During the night, it hides from its prey, sitting quietly and listening, waiting. Unsuspecting mice and voles never see--or hear--this tiny, seven-inch-tall predator coming!
A fine weather beetle the Thick-legged Flower Beetle is a pollinator of many open-structured flowers including Cow Parsley, Ox-eye Daisy and -- Bramble. These beetles are most frequently spotted in bright sunlight on flower heads on warm to hot days.

The Dicke Berta is a Beacon in Cuxhaven-Altenbruch.
The listed lighthouse, which stands at the mouth of the Elbe, was in operation as a lower light from 1897 to 1983.
