Momo loves to design clothing and accessories. Although she's not very good at sewing xD she likes to draw different outfits everyday. She says she wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up ^^

Bob Mackie worked with my Mother at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles back in the late 50's early 60's in the mail room. He went on to be the fashion designer for The Carol Burnett Show and Cher, and creating his own line for the public found at Saks Fifth Avenue and other fine stores.

PERSONAL FUN FACT:This simple, unassuming Cloe has one of the greatest transformation stories in my Bratz collection. I believe I found her at the local flea market sometime in 2012. It was not all that long after Dad passed away. Colleen and I continued our Sunday family tradition--going to the flea market in hopes of finding treasure. As we wandered down the aisles of the outdoor venue, I spotted doll hair sticking out of a tool box on the ground. This was a bizarre location to find dolls by far. As I approached, I realized the victims were Bratz. One was a woe begone Sleep-Over Leah, the other was this Fashion Designer Cloe. Admittedly I was a little pickier about my doll selection back then. I wasn't as particular as say I was in 2011. But due to the fact that I didn't have loads of spare Bratz clothes in storage, I couldn't afford to adopt too many nude dolls in a short time frame. Fortunately years of dedicated eBay and flea market purchases resolved this problem. But when I found Cloe and Leah, I was not as equipped to take them on. I remember that the man who was selling the dirty duo wanted more money for them than I felt they were worth. But could I leave two naked dolls left to rot in this filthy tool box? Certainly not with the way my dolly conscience works. So I bought both gals, and to my dismay, they STANK of cigarettes. This Cloe was spared the nicotine discoloration that Leah had not escaped. However she smelled as if she had been chain smoking for years, even after several baths. But Cloe and Leah were worth all that effort and love. For two shabby dolls, they have lead quite the luxury filled life in recent years. Cloe got to wear fashion packs for sometime. I never thought I'd end up reuniting her with this rather mundane ensemble. But less than a year later, this outfit turned up on my Magic Hair Color Leah (how ironic that it was a Leah)!

Cloisonné Barrel Drum

Meiji period, ca 1873

Wood, metal, cloisonné, hide, silk, padding

This oversize barrel drum, with its meticulously decorated cloissonne cylinder and stand, was commissioned by the Japanese government for the Vienna World Exposition of 1873. This decorative drum or a similar one (part of a pair was on display at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition).

The rooster resting atop a war drum is a symbol of peace. Furthermore, in ancient China, drums were used to announce a call to arms, so peaceful times are symbolised by an idle drum.

Taken in the 'China: Through the Looking Glass' exhibition (May-September 2015).

This exhibition explores the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. In this collaboration between The Costume Institute and the Department of Asian Art, high fashion is juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.

From the earliest period of European contact with China in the sixteenth century, the West has been enchanted with enigmatic objects and imagery from the East, providing inspiration for fashion designers from Paul Poiret to Yves Saint Laurent, whose fashions are infused at every turn with romance, nostalgia, and make-believe. Through the looking glass of fashion, designers conjoin disparate stylistic references into a pastiche of Chinese aesthetic and cultural traditions.

The exhibition features more than 140 examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear alongside Chinese art. Filmic representations of China are incorporated throughout to reveal how our visions of China are framed by narratives that draw upon popular culture, and also to recognize the importance of cinema as a medium through which to understand the richness of Chinese history.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: It is miraculous to me that I mated my pathetic Fashion Designer Cloe with her original ensemble in less than a year. She's from a time frame that is less saturated doll wise than previous generations. By this I mean that MGA produced more of a variety of Bratz dolls in the mid 2000s, as opposed to the early years. So more kids had the same dolls in the early 2000s, meaning it's fairly easy to piece them together. I wasn't anticipating ever getting this outfit, so I made peace with dressing Cloe in various fashion packs for display instead. Then one weekend morning in 2013, Colleen and I made a special trek out to a different flea market. This was an indoor one, that we had not been to since Dad's passing. Honestly in the last years of its existence, it had gotten to be really terrible. The admission was pricey, and half the flea market was taken over by rides and "new" stuff. But at the last corner of the flea market, I spotted a basket of dolls. It was here that we found Colleen's beloved second Hollywood Hair Ken, my Magic Make-up Yasmin, and Magic Hair Color Leah. Leah was donning this entire getup. I knew it looked familiar, and I assumed it was her original one. Since the dolls were $3 each, I probably wouldn't have bought Leah if I had known she was in the improper attire. But in retrospect I am SO glad I did not have this knowledge! When I got home, I realized to my greatest delight that stinky Cloe (she smelled of cigarettes still at this point) had just won the dolly outfit lottery! And Magic Hair Color Leah made an excellent fashion pack model, so all was not lost.

I've got this doll since ever (2002 maybe), she arrived during one of the first International (from USA) transaction I took in the early era of the web stores. She was actually a doll I didn't purchased, the vendor wrongly sent me her; I had ordered insted 3 Silkstone Lingerie #3 Barbies, two arrived but the third was this one. I did't sent her back because it took almost one year (no joke, I sent many emails and many phone calls to US) to arrive the package in Italy; I was too frustrated to start over again... and, at last, I love her!

ME! (blogged)

This morning I was interviewed by two members of the school newspaper staff because I was chosen as the teacher with the most style.

Wow!

I would like to thank all the little people and my mom and dad and Stacy and Clinton from What Not To Wear! and JcPenny's and SockDreams and Famous Footwear and .....

Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool. Not too many weeks ago another student told me I was the best dressed teacher. Yay me and my fashion sense!!! I will do an sp with the newspaper when it comes out!

I thought it would be fun to do a 13 things about my style! (I am not attesting to be a fashion expert... just sharing a little about me!)

1. I have always had a thing for fashion... remember the days of Barbie fashion plates? I loved those things.

2. I use to create my own paper dolls by cutting out pictures of models from the Sears and JcPenny's Catalog.

3. As a teenager I would design and sew the majority of my clothes.

4. One year at girls camp I received the award for the most fashionable camper award.

5. In high school I wanted to be a Fashion Designer.

6. My first major in college was Fashion Merchandising.

7. I had dreams of owning a clothing store and calling it The Closet (I think that name was already taken by then).

8. My favorite clothing item in high school was short skirts (that I made of course).

9. In Senior English I wrote a How-To paper on how to make a skirt. My friend Tyler was a very mean critic. He just didn't understand why anyone would want to make a skirt.

10. When I was 17 years old, I ran in the local scholarship pageant. My talent was a fashion show of clothing I had designed and sewed. (I didn't win, but was very proud of my accomplishments... seems like the ones that win have talents that are more along the lines of musical talents.).

11. My sisters use to tease me about how good I looked when I went to bed. I would tell them that you need to look for bed, you never know who you are going to dream about.

12. My favorite accessory would have to be shoes.

13. Fashion advice.... It doesn't matter what it feels like, what matters is what it looks like. We have to pay a price for looking good :)
