I've always been fascinated by the History of Fashion - wanted to study it but could never afford to do those courses - so I did a lot of Fashion Adjacent courses instead. And so I've done many an exercise in 'Colour Theory' which was always taught in very a perfunctory way - without thought or passion - I couldn't find any of those exercises - I've probably tossed them out.
I did come across this one that Aurelia is using as a 'flat-lay' background. Winter 1990 and we had to design a 'range' using a colour palette the teacher called 'Spiced'.
Those 'Spiced' colours were 'pumpkin, pistacchio & plum' and my fellow students hated them. I quite liked the idea - the late 80s had seen a lot of strong, bright, 'jewel' colours ... these were softer, muted colours ... so I went with that idea and my 'range' had soft, curvy lines and it was very 1890s ... My love of historical fashion always crept in ...
The teacher did not like all those historical references ...
Nevermind - Aurelia likes it ...

Having achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design and a few quarters away from achieving her Bachelor of Science in Pattern Design (Pattern Making), Christina Manolescu embarks on a career that is “...beyond what I ever thought I would achieve.”
Last quarter she began working freelance as a pattern maker for several different design companies. Her first experience was with couturier Roberto De Villacis on a few garments that were made-to-measure for his fit model. “She was so stunned by the fit that she wanted to take the muslin cut home!” At the same time, Christina embarked on her first custom wedding gown, embroidery and all.
The Academy of Couture Art was founded as a higher institution of learning to teach the principles and techniques of fashion that go above and beyond those ordinarily taught in the United States by providing instruction combining European Haute Couture fashion with American fashion. Unique to American fashion education, ACA teaches Pattern Design and Fashion Design separately.
Located in the prestigious Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, CA, the Academy of Couture Art offers innovative, challenging, and flexible fashion education programs that prepare a diverse student population for professional excellence in design, fashion and business. Academy of Couture Art has designed a unique Intensive English Language Program combining hands-on instruction and student-centered learning.
