While the shorebird numbers were very low at Half Moon Bay, the Brown Pelicans and Heerman's Gulls were in abundance! We sat on the breakwater wall and watched with 'fascination' as the pelicans would dive one after another and the gulls would follow right after them to, hopefully, get part of their catch!
The surfers seemed distracted with all the noise and excitement and also enjoyed the display!

I came across a grove of almost bare twisted, reaching branches. There was just something fascinating about the entanglement of branches and the subtle traces of leaves left. I just found it beautiful in a unique kind of way. The trees needn't be overflowing in abundant autumn leaves to be beautiful. This had a graceful, mysterious kind of beauty that is special in its own way. I am staying in today enjoying a lazy day, restocking the firewood and enjoying leftover pumpkin pie. I am NOT one of you motivated, CRAZY Black Friday shoppers ha! :-) I hope whatever your doing today you have a fantastic day:)

Many thanks to my wonderful wife for capturing this view of my fascination with railways.
It’s a location with quite a history. Back in December 1984 a train carrying petroleum derailed inside the tunnel and caught fire. The brave driver and assistant managed to uncouple the locomotive and the tankers that had remained on the track, drawing them clear of the burning train. The driver was back at work the following day. I’ve linked below to a newspaper article about the event.
