Farmers from Belgium's northern region of Flanders drove thousands of tractors into Brussels on Friday in a protest against a new regional government plan to limit nitrogen emissions.

Police estimated the number of tractors clogging the streets of Brussels at 2,700. Many were decorated with big signs reflecting the farmers' anger.

A playful depiction of a man who, with a crate of Heineken beer on the back of his bicycle, rode in a straw bale along the road. In the background, inverted Dutch flags on lampposts are visible as a symbol of farmers' protest against the nitrogen policy proposed by the government.

Yesterday, Ghent was right in the middle of a farmers' protest. Their tractors were lining the main roads, causing quite a traffic mess. The heart of all this action was at the Bijloke, where an international farming symposium was held. All of this chaos stems from the many hurdles these farmers are dealing with. The farmers have big dreams of expanding their farms, but they're wrestling with strict nitrogen rules, sky-high land prices, and the headache of dealing with excess manure under new European regulations. Throw in the challenge of low cattle prices and mountains of paperwork, and you can imagine the pressure they're under. While the farmers' protest caused some serious economic ripples, taking a moment to listen to their concerns can really help you understand, and even sympathize, with their situation. Here are a few snapshots from yesterday morning's protest. I hope that politicians and policymakers, both at the national and European levels, will hear their protest and amend the existing rules to find a better balance between protecting the environment and ensuring the viability of farming in Europe – The Bijloke, Ghent, Belgium.

Every time a farmer appears on television - and believe me, they're being interviewed daily on television, radio, and in newspapers - they voice their unique grievances, but there's a common thread: the longing to simply do their job without interference from local, national, or European governments. The image of an intrusive government filled with bureaucrats meddling in farmers' affairs tends to evoke sympathy. For many, farmers represent our traditions and embody our core values. We still find the sight of a healthy farmer's wife caring for contentedly rooting pigs amidst a blossoming orchard quite appealing. On the flip side, there's a significant group associating farmers with practices such as using antibiotics and growth hormones on their animals, spreading fertilizer under the cover of darkness, excessive chemical use on the land, and keeping animals in cramped spaces. However, it's worth acknowledging that even with these questionable practices, farmers could barely make ends meet. Achieving a balance between economically sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture will inevitably begin with consumers who must pay a fair price for their food. It's going to be a long and challenging journey with implications for all of us before we strike that balance – De Bijloke, Ghent, Belgium

Andrea Rahn-Farr, Chairwoman of the Wetterau-Frankfurt Regional Farmers' Association and member of the FDP parliamentary group in the Wetterau district council.

Dr. Matthias Mehl, district farmer for Frankfurt.

When I ventured to shoot this event it was more on humanitarian grounds it was my humble tribute to the farmers ..I felt as a Mumbaikar and as a people photographer I had to use my camera to tell their story being a street poet my story would be different a documentary no doubt but with compassion with dignity without shooting the cracked souls of their feat .

At Chunnabatti Somaiya grounds I let my own hunger feel the pangs of the farmers six day gruelling march and their plight wooed by heartless politicians of all hues who see them merely as votebank..

I shot as much as I could but I shot their domestic chores their unified spirit against Goliath I shot their march.

The following day I shot the sea of red caps at Azad Maidan..I shot videos too that I will upload when my 2 week ban from uploading at You Tube gets over .

I shot over 1400 images all at Flickr and it is a tale that has to be read visually humanly ,,

Promises have been made the farmers have gone back but tell me is their story over .. and will the end be happily ever after .

Will the farmer suicides stop...politics has no space for blood sweat or tears ...and beneath the skin of politics lies only one thing opportunism..

According to the police, around 500 farmers took part in the protest meeting. 600 tractors were counted, but not all of their drivers were at the meeting. There were also some photographers and cameramen from television and a trade unionist. No Antifa, "Querdenker" or neo-Nazis. But I wasn't there the whole time.

This farmer is flying the National Flag upside-down. It is an international sign of distress. It is a cry of emergency to the State's Government.

In the case of the Dutch flag it has a double meaning: the color red is for the people, the color white represents the church and the color blue is for the nobility (elite). Normally the color red (people) is on top, now it is at the bottom with the elite on top. Most of the time a sign that something is wrong....

For those my friends who live beyond the shores of India dont know Hindi ..Sapna means Dreams ..so imagine the ecstasy joy when they see the cherubic face of their baby doll when she arrives on earth and they decide to call her Dream Girl.

I know perhaps my mystic interpretation sounds Bollywood kitsch.

I first met Sapna Sapna Moti Bhavnani in the flesh at Azad Maidan I had heard a lot about her ..we were both following a dream of a better India a India devoid of corruption a India as envisioned to us as a dream of Uncle Anna Hazare ..

I shot Sapna at Azad Maidan years back her tattoos her beatific smile her congeniality and her body language ..photgraphy is shooing the soul through body language .

We never met after that and than as I was planning to leave the Farmers protest again at Azad Maidan I see her and start shooting her past present and future all in congruity aligned to my cosmic camera .

We hardly spoke a few words and as a people photographer I did not want to encroach on her thoughts feelings euphoria her presence lit up the farmers as among all the photographers she was the most beautiful approachable to them these rural denizens with cracked feet that had walked 180 km from Nasikh to Mumbai to make a point ,,,they came like sheep sacrificial lamb led by their political shepherds under the fiery red flag.

They have gone back they nourished the soul of our dead humanity with godly humility ...I am a poet but I hate words and this post is about Sapna the farmers and a tryst with our fate at crossroads of our karma and Time .

I have a thousand brilliant lies

For the question:

How are you?

I have a thousand brilliant lies

For the question:

What is God?

If you think that the Truth can be known

From words,

If you think that the Sun and the Ocean

Can pass through that tiny opening Called the mouth,

O someone should start laughing!

Someone should start wildly Laughing Now!

Do we as photographers shoot picture or do we search for stories or do stories search for us .

Ok my first regret not only as a photographer but as a person who respects humanity farmers teachers soldiers others I wish I could have walked with farmers from Nasikh to Mumbai...to feel their pain their strength of spirit and their resilience after some having lost their loved ones relatives to farmer suicides .

Photography for me is a holistic healing instrument .. it heals as it touches you and the Third Eye of Shiva embalms moments for posterity .

Yesterday I called up my two best photographer friends to come and shoot the farmers at Somaiya Grounds Chunnabatti both had prior commitments ,

So I left home at about 1 pm on an empty stomach food was not ready at home I reached the Somaiya Grounds very early and my hunger pangs accelerated by my diabetic condition made me go outside the grounds there were a few stalls close to the gate I had chips later a cucumber and finally after consecutive gaps I thought I would pick up a slice of watermelon instead I picked up a musk melon I had 2 slices and kept the remaining slices in a plastic bag .

I sat chatted with some very poor farmers in my pidgin Hindi Marathi than I pulled the musk melon and gave it to one of them he was very hungry he broke it in several pieces gave it to his comrades ..and they ate it ravenously .

They thanked me I asked them should I bring some more they politely refused .

After few hours of my wait for the marching farmers I thought I would shoot those in the grounds doing domestic chores ,..this I shot passionately and I reached a group who were eating they greeted me as I was dressed in saffron ..they asked about me I filled the gaps when I told them I had skipped lunch at home to shoot their event they offered me nachni and vegetables and I wish I can express you the feeling that were born within me , these were farmers who fed me my family all my life and were now feeding me in my state of hunger .

I had one serving only I was feeling guilty they were honored humble guests of my city Amchi Mumbai and the mantra of our hospitality Atithi Devo Bhava.

Later I got some biscuits snacks water and gave it to a few of them.

I have shot a lot of events in my life Bomblasts Shree Balasaheb Thackerays funeral cortege IAC of Shree Anna Hazare Maratha Morcha Dalit Morcha I shot all this as a Mumbaikar and as resident of Maharashtra .

Had I not shot the #FarmersProtest #FarmersMarch it would have been ingratitude having eaten the salt of Maharashtra ,.

Last night I was not in good shape I thought I would come in the morning walk with the farmers from Somaiya Grounds till Azad Maidan.. but they left at 1 am..

This morning before setting out to shoot the farmers I called both my photographer friends but again I went all by myself.

As a few Kisan Morcha Sangh leaders knew me I shot from the main stage and here Muslims who were serving everyone water snacks offered me a lot of stuff ..the Shiv Sena cadres know me too and the Samajwadi boys I kept all that they gave me and when I came down the stage I gave it all to the wives of the farmers and I had tears in my eyes ,,this is the power of humility and the power of love devotion dedication in all of us children of Mother India .

I dont think I will ever forget this shoot and as YouTube has banned me for 2 weeks because of 2 penalty strikes against my channel I cannot post my videos and I dont post my videos on Facebook or Vimeo..

I had to share these feelings with all of you ...
