Camera: home made camera 5

Camera 5 - a Clack lens which is meant to project onto a curved film plane is projecting onto a flat plane Rapid Omega in this home made camera. that is how it is producing such delicious bokeh around the periphery. I was hoping to achieve such a lomo effect in the planning stage, but was not expecting such juicy sweet spot and such suave bokeh.

Kinasa (鬼無里) was a village municipality located to the east of Hakuba. Due to a population drain, it was annexed into Nagano City recently, which is the prefectural capital of Nagano prefecture.

Nagano city proper is located on the alluvial fan created by the Susobana-gawa (裾花川) river that rises in Kinasa.

This is another typical farm house in Azumino Valley with cedar woods for windbreak. This photo was taken in Matsukawa village, a few km south of the previous photo.

Dispersed settlement is a characteristic of western part of Azumino Valley where the development was relatively new compared with the eastern part where settlements are older and agglomerated. It is thanks to the improvement of security conditions along with the progress of flood control techniques in the Edo period (17th to 19th century), which made it possible to convert the flood plains to rice paddy.

Rice blooms from late July to early August.

The harvest season is from late September to mid-October.

DESCRIPTION OF HISTORIC PLACE

The Alex Houston Residence consists of a modest 1 1/2 storey wood-frame house on a country lot. It is within view of the Fraser River and is located in the Greater Vancouver Regional District's Derby Reach Park in NW Langley, British Columbia.

HERITAGE VALUE

Built in 1909 by Alexander Houston, the Houston Residence is important for its historic significance in terms of its association with the Houston family, its location, and the period in which it was built. It is also an important example of a community-led restoration that combined the resources of the Langley Heritage Society and the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

The Houstons were an important family in British Columbia's history. Alex's father, James, is credited for being the first European to discover gold along the Fraser River, the first independent farmer in the Fraser Valley, one of 33 men to petition the government for an incorporation of the district, and one of the first councillors when Langley was incorporated as a District in 1873.

Alex took over the family cattle and dairy farming business in 1902 (after the death of his father). He was the only son of James and was himself an important pioneer in the Derby area. His family was very active in the community until the 1950's, having established and hosted the community May Day celebrations and donating land for a commemorative cairn across the street from his house, marking the site of the first Fort Langley.

The farmsite stands on what was originally land occupied by the first Hudson's Bay Company Fort (1827) and later by the Townsite of Derby (1859). It is a focal point for Derby historical interpretations.

The Houston farmsite reminds visitors that resource-based industries found throughout the province (mining, logging and fishing) were only some of the major forces shaping British Columbia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The resource-based industries were comprised primarily of single men, while the small farms were comprised of families. Small-scale family farms like this one provided an economic base for the industries mentioned above, and they provided the social stability that was necessary for a growing colony.

North Yorkshire Moors

I was hoping for some blue sky, but it was still a good walk, and not far from home (and a motorway!). This riverbank was very quiet and I saw a couple swans (one nesting) and Geese, Sparrow-hawks, Many sheep & lambs, and even saw a young buck skipping along. Grass is still pretty fresh this time of year though, so socks and daps were drenched! This farm house at the end of a quiet country lane, over a small bridge, must be a lovely place to watch this world go by with Sunrises to the right and Sunsets to the left.

While heading back to Brisbane from Natural Bridge at Springbrook we stopped at the roadside for some lunch and were treated to this great view of this farmhouse.

While I saw many fine homes in Ecuador, this farm house was typical for a small-hold farm in the Andes and is probably home to a family of indigenous people most likely of Incan descent in this area. This was located on the edge of the Ingapirca archeological site. Most of the farms in the Ecuador Andes are primarily dairy farms, grazing milk cows and making cheese. They also grow a couple of dozen kinds of potatoes; potato soup is probably the national dish if there is one, but also roasted guinea pig (cuy, which is pronounced kwee).

Old farm house with a traffic jam of boats

As a novice photographer, this is one of those images that I'm unsure about. Obviously I've done some work in post to extract some color and capture a mood - but not sure how well it works. Thanks for taking a look:-).
