Albert Square was named as Manchester’s Rugby World Cup 2015 Official Fanzone. It was open for three days surrounding England's clash with Uruguay on October 10. With a total capacity of 8,000 it included a big screen showing live Rugby World Cup 2015 matches, rugby activities, food and drink, entertainment and unique regional content to celebrate Manchester's role in the world cup. As well as showing the England and Uruguay game the Fanzone also showed a selection of games from the tournament on the weekend of 9 to 11 October.
Over 1 million fans are anticipated in the Fanzones throughout the Tournament.

Situated at Victoria Square from 13-23 February, the Fanzone will be a hub for cricket fans of all ages and will be the starting point for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand Fantrail that leads all the way to Hagley Oval.
The Fanzone will feature something for everyone with food and beverage stands, backyard cricket games, prize giveaways, family days, face-painting, cult-movies and live big-screen coverage of all the games from Hagley Oval.

our World Cup Rugby venue, well no live games in Christcurch but a Fanzone has been set up where all Games are live on two big Screens shown. has been embraced by Rugby Fans here. bit sad really but we must do with what we've got.
driving around the Innercity is a nightmare, lost complete my orientation, landmarks gone and streets and roads only one way..demolition everywhere, recovery quite slow its all a bit daunting really

(1) - Kazimír Gajdoš (28 March 1934 – 8 November 2016) was a professional footballer who played as a right winger. Gajdoš was born in Brusno near Banská Bystrica on 28 March 1934. At club level, he played for Tatran Prešov, Slovan Bratislava, and Slovnaft Bratislava. Gajdoš earned four caps for the Czechoslovakia national football team in 1957 and participated in the 1954 as well as 1958 FIFA World Cup, but played in neither tournament. Gajdoš played mostly as a right wing. He died in Bratislava on 8 November 2016 after a serious illness.

(2) - Štefan Matlák - Striker - (6 February 1934 in Bratislava – 12 April 2003 in Bratislava) was a Slovak football player who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics.

(3) - Vladimír Weiss (21 September 1939 – 23 April 2018) was a Czechoslovak football defender. As a player he won the Czechoslovak First League with ČH Bratislava in 1959, as well as a silver Olympic medal with Czechoslovakia at the 1964 Summer Olympics football competition. After his playing career he spent time as a coach. Weiss was born in Vrútky on 21 September 1939 and settled in Bratislava in 1958. Between 1958 and 1969, Weiss played in the Czechoslovak First League for ČH / Slovnaft / Inter Bratislava, making a total of 236 league appearances and scoring 6 goals. He won the national title with Bratislava in the 1958–59 season. He subsequently played for Baník Prievidza and Trnávka at the end of his career. International career - Weiss represented Czechoslovakia national football team between 1964 and 1965, making three appearances. At Olympic level he played for his country 17 times, scoring once, between 1960 and 1964, culminating in being part of the silver medal winning team for Czechoslovakia at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Among his three full caps, Weiss played in a 0–1 1966 FIFA World Cup qualification defeat against Portugal at Bratislava's Tehelné pole stadium.
(4) - Jiří Tichý - Defender - (6 December 1933 in Jeneč, Czechoslovakia – 26 August 2016 at age 82 in Podivín, Czech Republic) was a Czech football player. During his club career he played for CH Bratislava and Sparta Prague. Tichý won three championship titles with Sparta. He earned 19 caps for the Czechoslovakia national football team, and was part of the second-placed team at the 1962 FIFA World Cup. (5) - Imrich Šporka (b. 21 June 1941) - Czech Republic - Defender - Imrich Šporka (born 21 June 1941in Buštyno) is a former Slovak football defender. He lives in Banská Bystrica. Playing career:
In the Czechoslovak league, he played for Červená hvězda / Slovnaft Bratislava and Dukla Banská Bystrica without scoring. He was a member of the team that won the Rappan Cup twice (1962–63 and 1963–64).

(8) - Adolf Scherer - Centre-Forward - (5 May 1938 – 22 July 2023) was a Slovak footballer, Czechoslovak national team player, holder of a silver medal at the 1962 World Cup in Chile and a bronze medal at the 1960 European Championship.World Championship in 1958 in Sweden (but he did not play there), one of the best strikers in Czechoslovak history. Adolf Scherer's granddaughter Karin (* 1980) was a handball player for the DHK Baník Most team, with which she became the winner of the Czech-Slovak WHIL interleague, the champion of the Czech Republic and the winner of the fourth most important European club competition Challenge Cup in the 2012/13 season. After the end of this successful season, it announced the end of its active activity. Football career:
He played 36 matches for the Czechoslovak national team and scored 22 goals, including three at the 1962 World Cup in Chile (two in the semi-finals in Yugoslavia, one in the quarter-finals in Hungary). He appeared in 258 league games and scored 25 goals. He played in 1 match for the youth national team, he played in 8 matches for the junior national team and scored 1 goal, he played in 4 matches for the Olympic team and he played in 5 matches for the national B-team.

(10) - Michal Medviď - Striker - (born 1 May 1940) is a former Slovak footballer. His brother Ján Medviď was also a football player and a Czechoslovak national team. Football career - In 1964, he played two matches for the Czechoslovak national team, once in the national B-team, 3 times in the Olympic selection. In the Czechoslovak league, he played in 167 matches and scored 49 goals. He played for Tatran Prešov, ČH Bratislava, Inter Bratislava, in the Austrian league for LASK Linz and for Slavia Prague. He played in 2 matches in the UEFA Cup.

(11) - Milan Dolinský - Striker - (born 17 April or 14 July 1935 in Brunovce) is a former Slovak footballer. Czechoslovak national team, bronze medalist from the first European Championship in 1960, where he scored two goals against Denmark. He played 10 matches for the Czechoslovak national team and scored 5 goals. He connected his football career with ČH Bratislava (future Inter Bratislava). In 1953, he became the champion of Czechoslovakia in the youth category with Lokomotiv Košice.
