We spent Christmas Eve by having a family dinner at Tai Pan, one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in the SF Bay Area. www.taipanpaloalto.com If any of you live in the SF Bay Area, give this place a try.
This light creamy soup is made with shrimp, calamari, and scallop, topped with puff pastry. It's one of Tai Pan's signature dishes. You can eat the pastry right off the top or push it into the soup to make it even more delicious.
A bit of trivia! This restaurant is located on Waverley St., and if you drive about 15 blocks SE you'll run into Steve Jobs' house.

It's one of the few times I haven't seen the old man drunk in a corner. He was a friend of my grandfather's. They used to drink together and go hunting on Pulau Tekong. The old man was talking about a friend of theirs who made films on the island with a Super 8 camera. I never knew this story.

For Christmas Dinner yesterday we only had our one son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter as he has never missed having Christmas at home except during Covid lockdown.
Our oldest daughter suggested a few months back that perhaps our oldest son should host a potluck Christmas Dinner on Boxing Day with mom (me) bringing turkey, ham and stuffing while others brought veg, munchies, deserts etc. as he was "in the middle" for driving purposes. Our oldest son was happy to do so as it would mean that they did not have to pile all the kids in the car to bring up to our place.
He had a "backdrop" that he purchased to hang as a decoration as it were and of course we all had to pose in front of it. I set the camera on the 10 second timer on their dishwasher (I did not bring my tripod) and we took a few shots.
We were missing our one daughter, son-in-law and a few grandchildren but still it was a fun day of getting together. It's not a tack sharp or even well thought out pose of the group but that's okay. It's a family photo to remember the fun time we had.
This week will be a bit hectic for us so hopefully I will get to see all of your images as quick as I can. In the meantime, I will thank you now in advance for having a peak at my image here.

This family portrait captures a scene of daily life in a French middle class household. The servants, at either end of the table, are included, as is the family dog. The man and woman on the far side of the table gesture to the frugal meal of ham and bread, served on plain pewter plates, indicating their piously modest lifestyle.
Little is known about the “Master of the Games,” not even his name (his pseudonym comes from his paintings of card players). His paintings are close in style to the Le Nain brothers, three Parisian artists known for their scenes of peasants and of everyday life. The middle class subject, the cool, muted colors and the strong contrasts of light and dark in this painting were evidently influenced not only by the Le Nains, but also by Dutch artists of the same period.

We always feel like celebrating when my sister & her husband Ron come to visit from Alaska! The evening they arrived, Dec 14th, they were exhausted from the long trip, but we had a lovely meal ready to greet them at my parent's home - Mom had set the table and I'd prepared Veal Scallopini Parmesan. All it needed was a simple starter, proscuitto wrapped cantaloupe drizzled with fresh lemon juice & a generous grating of freshly ground pepper.
There was no snow yet, so I added a few flakes using Photoshop Brushes :-)
