With great delight, the Institute was able to host a single, glorious Family Getaway this summer at the Learning Center. It featured the talents and creations of our stellar summer staff instructors and coordinators, the culinary marvels of our new kitchen crew, and of course, the familial warmth and kinship of our visiting families!
Activities included some classic Getaway staples, such as big canoe excursions, fairy homes, North Cascades "Jeopardy", and of course, a costume parade and talent show... with campfire and s'mores!
We at the Institute are so grateful for the families that made their way here to help us regain a sense of normalcy after some disruptions to what we've been able to offer!

Scenes from the final Family Getaway of the summer season at the North Cascades Institute. Participants included, children, parents, and grandparents; families of all shapes and size. Guests paddled canoes, hiked trails, explored creeks, and generally had a great time in the shadows of the majestic North Cascades.
Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
Some background information:
Chatsworth House is a large country house at Chatsworth, Derbyshire, England. It is the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire, and has been home to their family, the Cavendish family, since Bess of Hardwick settled at Chatsworth in 1549.
The house is set in expansive parkland, and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland. It contains a unique collection of priceless paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculpture, books and other artefacts. Several times Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom's favourite country house.
It appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice", where it represented Pemberley, Mr Darcy's home. The house itself is named in the novel as one of the estates Elizabeth Bennet visits before arriving at Pemberley. The house was also used in "The Duchess" (2008), featuring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, and "The Wolfman" (2010), featuring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.
Chatsworth's garden is one of the most famous and beautiful in England, covering about four square kilometers of perfectly cultivated nature.

Situated on the wooded shores of beautiful Diablo Lake, our green-built campus offers all the comforts of home with its inviting lodges, cozy library and historic dining hall. Our talented kitchen staff creates delicious, healthy buffet-style meals, using local and organic ingredients as much as possible, that please the palates of people young and old.
Each day, Institute staff naturalists, working alongside National Park Service rangers, present your family with a slate of engaging, hands-on activities including big canoe paddling, hiking local trails, outdoor games and nature crafts (age and size restrictions apply for safety). Different seasons present unique occasions for outdoor fun and exploration and our professional staff is adept at making the most of what nature has to offer. In the evening, we’ll gather around the campfire with stories and songs beneath the innumerable stars of the North Cascades night sky. You will also have opportunities to enjoy free time however you please.
