I know what you’re thinking, Psicomagia? Sounds like a Mexican wrestler, or maybe a forgotten Santana album. But no my friends, it’s a whole different beast. It’s part poetry, part therapy, part carnival act cooked up by a wildcat named Alejandro Jodorowsky. A man who wears more hats than a hat rack in a windstorm.
Jodorowsky, well, he’s a filmmaker, a tarot reader, a mime, a mystic, a kinda guy who sees the world not in black and white, but in flaming technicolor. He said talk therapy was too slow, too cold. So he made up something else. Something strange. Something beautiful. He called it Psicomagia.
It’s the idea that your subconscious, your deep, dark internal jukeboy, doesn’t speak English or French or even Pig Latin. It talks in symbols. In poetry. In fire. In feathers. In ritual. So if you’ve got a problem you can’t shake like your dad never said he loved you, or you feel cursed by your grandma’s ghost, Jodorowsky might tell you to take your shoes, fill them with honey, and walk through the city streets at dawn. It ain’t about logic. It’s about magic. Symbolic logic. Soul surgery.
Now, this ain't science, not by a long stretch. No white coats. No clipboards. No tidy conclusions. It’s more like a spell cast on a broken heart. A love letter to the wounded child inside you. It’s got roots in psychoanalysis, sure, but also tarot cards, shamanic rituals, surrealist art. You don’t talk to your pain, you dance with it. You give it a name, a costume, a stage, and you set it free.
Alejandro says a good psychomagical act hits you like a lightning bolt wrapped in velvet. He calls it medicine for the soul. The kind that don’t come in a bottle. The kind you gotta earn.
So next time you feel stuck, next time your heart feels like an old record skipping on the same sad song, maybe try speaking in symbols. Burn a letter. Plant a mirror. Kiss the sidewalk. You just might find what you weren’t looking for.
