A faded rose shot in macro from the bottom.

Discorso all'Ufficio Oggetti Smarriti

A fairly accurate representation of how we felt after our moving sale this past Saturday. But, nothing daunted, we're forging ahead to move out by September 24th. May the angels send in their equivalent of the Marines to help with the mountain of tasks remaining to be done, lol. This rose is from a bouquet that I just didn't have time to photograph when it was in full bloom.

Macro Mondays: Decay - faded, dead, disintegrating rose.

Macro photograph of an object in a state of decay - something unmistakably crumbling, disintegrating, rotting or in a similar state of progressive physical deterioration.

2nd January 2019:

I got out, albeit only as far as my famous car park, but oh was it good to get some air. Sadly for me, Graham was in one of his 'I need to go out' moods and he got out when there was a bit more sun than I had.

But, never mind. I saw quite a bit of early colour beginning to show, which is either a good or bad sign here. It could mean a very cold spell to come, or not. It did last year, so hope that we'll be OK this one.

I noticed this fading rose in someone's garden and just liked how the photo came out.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

September Rose

“When summer gathers up her robes of glory, and like a dream of beauty glides away.” ~ Sarah Helen Whitman

For Looking Close on Friday theme of Fading Beauty in Flora, this rose from my bush.

Do you see Jabba's face? Wasn't he a Star Wars character? He was green!

Light painted still life. My take on a much used theme...

From my rose collection.

Waiting for their time

Those are my favorite travel shoes . They've been for years with me but I can't let them go. Looks like they are waiting for some new adventure , a new place to visit , a new trail to walk .

Sorry for the recycling theme...but I like both side of the rose...

Thank you for visite, invites, awards and kind words I really appreciate it!

"Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness, know that, like life, things sometimes must fade, before they can bloom again..."

Beauty in distress

"Can you be up by 4:30 in the morning?" What she actually meant was could I be out by 4:30, as she was waiting outside the door of the inn, right on the dot... ol' Sol's parabola puts it quite high in the summer mornings of Northern Ireland, and Evelyn McCullough's no slouch at beating him to put such scenes as this in front of her camera.

She took me for a quick (Top Gear kind of quick... she's a lot of fun!... and yes Rodney, I'd ride with her anytime) jaunt down the B15 Coastal Highway for one favorite scenes after another in the golden hour of this fine morning... she's the consummate photo tour guide, so much so that the BBC (Ireland) feature many of her photographs in their news broadcasts. The name of the white boat in this image is "Irish Rover", which is somewhat descriptive of Evelyn as well.

After breakfast, we also caught up with friends Mari www.flickr.com/photos/22784225@N07/ and Rodney www.flickr.com/photos/rodneyharrison1966/ for second breakfast (just like Hobbits!) of pastry and coffee... a good thing too, as we needed the energy for our last full day before returning to North Carolina. Evelyn made sure it was a day full of wonderful memories, including meeting Laurena and George... and discovering what flapjacks are in Ireland! It is a beautiful country made more so by beautiful people.

Evelyn is currently in the hospital recovering from what is known as the MOAS, or mother of all surgeries, that has likely saved her life... so there's still one more sweetheart in a world that could stand a few more. Come take a look at Evelyn's rendition of this morning in the tiny village of Ballintoy... and leave her an encouraging "get well" note... she loves hearing from everyone: www.flickr.com/photos/herringpond/14583179474/in/dateposted/

A few weeks ago, I was walking in our garden and I came across these roses. I have never seen roses grow in such a formation with the center one slightly faded. I immediately thought of my dear friend, Jennifer. She had been battling cancer for five years and just discovered the cancer had spread to the spine. She past away on Tuesday. She leaves behind her husband, four children and countless friends and relatives who will miss her crazy. She was a lady who epitomized the word Gracious. She had a generous heart that touched everyone around her. I am honored and blessed to have had such a friend.

On my visit to the gardens last week I stopped at the rose garden. The pruning has not yet begun and I loved the old faded roses that were still adorning the shrubs. To me, there is something poignant about the flowers that have been frozen in time, tenaciously preserved through the winter, but will be cut away necessarily in order for new life to begin.

I bought the bouquet in January but have kept these roses even though they are dead. They have such a lovely range of tones and textures

Soft pink ballet shoes, a diamond and pearl crown, and a sheer veil are elegantly arranged on a rich, dark surface. With faded roses nearby, the scene evokes a sense of graceful nostalgia and regal beauty.
