A couple of American White Pelicans dwarf a Reddish Egret and almost seem amused at the little guy. Or perhaps they're thinking that the egret looks like a nice snack...
When viewing a Reddish Egret without other birds around, they look like a fairly large bird. So this gives a nice sense of just how huge the American White Pelicans are.
This encounter occurred along the gulf coast of Texas.

The world of macro-photography has created a whole new set of challenges and adventures for me. I am really enjoying those challenges, especially when other wildlife photography opportunities are limited.

Such beautiful, elegant birds. Fishing for food along the wetlands that line the Eastlink Trail. The Eastlink Freeway is now getting much busier and I wonder if the birds are finding fewer people walking by.

The dragonflies have finally and thankfully arrived providing a highly valued service in ridding the area of annoying flying pests. They, like most other things this year, seemed late in arriving but are now patrolling their territories in great numbers and very effectively. There is no more pleasant sight in the northwoods than seeing swarms of these notable creatures, knowing the results of their activity will yield a far more pleasant outdoors experience.
I spent a portion of yesterday chasing these guys around and may post a few more varieties tomorrow. This one peered at me over a ledge, providing a view of the last face many an insect sees.
