a quick post before i go to several late afternoon meetings. dug this up from the archives, taken during one of those meetups with fellow Filipino Flickrites. those Flickrites are now more of "Facebookers" and "Instagrammers". i still consider Flickr the best photo sharing site.
Another autumnal shot of Hluboká nad Vltavou. Might look better on Black
I have a big favour to ask of FACEBOOKers and TWITTERers - I've entered a competition and would really appreciate your vote on my small gallery. It's very simple, just a click or two. It seems silly that voting is only open to social networkers, but that's the way it is.
Anyway, your vote would mean a lot to me. Thanks!

In case this was somehow not apparent, yes, I go to the university of Colroado at Boulder. So just to be clear, here's a shot of a bunch of members of the CU Hiking club doing some group yoga on top of Mt. Oxford at 14,160 feet.
I'm noi Facebooker, but my real life friends told me that the school actually used this photo on their page and it got a ton of publicity. Who knew!
For more on this epic hike, check out the blog post!

Social Search Engine Face-off: Facebook vs. MySpace
By Erik Qualman (*)
Everywhere you turn, everyone's abuzz with Facebook, social search, and social networking. What's all the fuss about? As a marketer, are you missing the train? Or, if you move too quickly, are you jumping on the wrong train?
On the eve of search marketing's new year, does Facebook spiked with Live Search go down like the real deal? Or does guzzling Google-infused MySpace taste like you're drinking the latest Kool-Aid? (Another round of Second Life, anyone? Orkut on the rocks?)
There are many more social networks for myriad audiences: business (LinkedIn, Plaxo), older (Gather, Eons), travel (aSmallWorld, TripAdvisor), teens (eCrush), dating (Match, eHarmony), but we'll focus on the two giants for now: the Google and Yahoo of social search engines.
And when I say big, I mean big. The latest unofficial user figures have Facebook at 73.5 million and MySpace at 289 million -- numbers that have marketers across the globe collectively salivating.
Top 2 Questions: Facebook vs. MySpace
Question: What's the difference between MySpace and Facebook?
Answer: MySpace is starting to be stereotyped as a community for people who want to meet new people. Facebook is viewed as a community designed to keep you in touch with people you already know. Both points are debatable, so we won't go into depth here.
MySpace has also received some bad press lately as an enabler for pedophiles and other nefarious activity. Google faces similar problems in Brazil with their proprietary Orkut social search engine and online community. In your MySpace, as in life, there may be new people you don't necessarily want to meet.
Question: Why is Facebook getting more love than MySpace?
Answer: It seems a bit odd that Facebook is getting all the press these days when MySpace has more users and via strategic partnerships (e.g., Google) have shown they can generate substantial revenue (what I like to dub "socialommerce"). What gives?
Facebook is getting more hype as they're growing at a faster rate (admittedly easier to do with a smaller user base.) Plus, their technical platform is more robust, fostering future growth. Facebook has placed some risky bets that have paid off, adding to the excitement.
Roughly 16 months ago, Facebook opened up their platform to non-college students. Facebook originally was exclusively for those attending a recognized college or university. Facebook user demographics in areas like higher education and discretionary income are typically higher than those of MySpace.
Since opening the platform to non-college students, like-minded individuals have flocked to Facebook in droves. These individuals, while possessing similar psychographics of original Facebookers, have even better demographics for marketers: post-college education, high discretionary income, early adopters, etc.
According to a source within Facebook, the largest growing segment of Facebook is the lucrative 35- to 54-year-olds who enjoy the clean interface and higher privacy levels of Facebook.
Facebook also set the interactive world on its head when it opened up its application program interface (API) to allow any developers to write applications (widgets/modules) that reside within Facebook. Now everyone is following suit: ranging from iGoogle allowing widget development to iPhone opening up application development.
With Facebook, Wiki (pedia/search et. al.) open APIs, the world is truly moving the Web to open source ubiquity. These applications are growing quickly on Facebook. In the travel segment alone, there were at least 80 Facebook applications written as of two months ago. There are now 332 travel applications -- an astounding 400 percent increase.
The most popular travel app, TripAdvisor, enables Facebookers to place "flags" on an interactive map of all the cities they've visited (remember when a paper map on a wall and push pins sufficed?). TripAdvisor's application has roughly 85,000 active daily users.
TripAdvisor's mapping app wasn't even a new idea. TripAdvisor simply built a better mousetrap. Best of all, it's estimated that TripAdvisor only spent $15,000 to develop such an application by simply leveraging the Google Maps API.
From a brand equity standpoint, that's a resounding return on investment.

Yo GillyFace, isn't it time you went to bed? It's 2.45am, you have to get up at 8am, work til 5pm, go to the airport at 6pm, board at 11pm and fly until 6am. Do you really think it was a good idea to stay up this late? Oh tut tut...you are just the worst...You're lucky you're so adorable or else, I would CRUSH you!!
Luls. These are totally my thoughts... <_<

If 3 more people join my Facebook and NOBODY leaves, then I'll have prezactly 100 people on there. A nice little collection you might say.
Also, I have a Tumblr.
Also, If I get roughly 597 more views today I will reach 100,000 views before I reach England.
Oh what a day of possible acheivement..

Leica M9 + 1954 Leica Summarit 50mm f1.5. Shot at 1m at f1.5. I processed this image as I do most my images - adjust contrast, sharpen and add border/ watermark. I'd only had the lens in my hands for 5mins and I have already proved that this lens is plenty sharp enough with some PP to be shot wide open. It was easy to nail focus at f1.5 but most reviews say these lenses were optimised at f2.8. Maybe I got lucky. Great lens.
More Leica Summarit 50f1.5 sample images to follow. There is a lot of bad images on the internet using this lens together with terrible reviews. As far as I can see this was unfair and they should have asked someone who can focus a manual lens to do the review! :P
My first impressions of this lens are fantastic (on my M9). Blog with more info to follow.

This is my sister Tru, with her rescue dog Kitty. Kitty was originally from Bulgaria and was found at the side of the road with a broken pelvis over four years ago. She was then looked after, by two beautiful souls who rescue dogs from the streets and from kill centres, until she was brought over to England and fostered by another wonderful human being called Sarah. She came into Tru's world about six weeks ago and was a bundle of nerves to start, but is gradually getting there. To our horror of horrors, last Monday whilst out walking with Tru she totally freaked at something and pulled herself out of her collar, with lead and took a bolt for it over the hill and out of sight. This was absolutely devastating, especially with her being such a timid soul and so wary of people. Neither of us were Facebookers up until that point....I am now....and had to rely on everyone we knew to post her escape out on social media for us. Within about half an hour, we were having phonecalls and texts with sightings which immediately put us onto the right trail. Apart from a little lull in the early hours of the morning, these messages came in constantly allowing us to stay in the right area. Two dog rescue sites, came up trumps. "Dolly Hastings Missing" and "Lost Dog Recovery" sent out volunteers to search, had posters made up for us and generally kept us positive that she'd be found throughout. Our emotions, on the other hand were absolutely all over the place, from sheer excitement of a sighting, to absolute devastating desperation when we missed her. I spent most of the time driving along sobbing, sniffing her blanket and asking the angels to look over her whilst she was out alone....which they did. Around thirty exhausting and emotional hours later, a lead took us back down to the park where she'd been back and forth. It was from this lead that I miraculously spotted just her tail end disappear into the darkness of an alley way. Knowing where this alley way led, I immediately called Tru and told her to get to the top end. To our utter amazement she was sitting on a pavement near the end of the alleyway and with a little bit of persuasion she jumped into the van!! When Tru called and said "We've got her", I can honestly say they were the three best words I've ever heard. I honestly don't think I've ever been so overwhelmed with people's kindness and their sheer empathy for the situation. We were bombarded with calls and texts throughout, from friends aswell as total strangers who'd either seen the poster or the Facebook page. Volunteers turned up to search and put posters up and friends of ours came along with doggy treats and torches to try and help. I can honestly say I was so emotional for the next couple of day, not only because Kitty was home, but due to all the absolute kindness that was still pouring in from well wishers. Kitty is a gorgeous girl and I have no doubt she was supposed to come into our lives. Maybe this was also supposed to happen, not only to restore her faith in how much we love her and want to protect her, but restore our faith in human kindness. If any restoring was needed, it certainly happened over those two days. There are a LOT of LOVELY people out there.
So this weekend I've been returning to some familiar locations, partially to try and improve on shots I've taken previously.
I still haven't got what I would consider my definitive photograph of Westminster Cathedral, but I am learning a little each time.
One of the main challenges with this location is that for much of the year, there's only a tiny slice of time each day where direct sunlight actually falls on the front of the building. At the moment that time is between around 4.45pm and 5.30pm.
Today I got there around 4.55pm and there had been decent amounts of sunlight during the afternoon so I was hopefully I could take advantage of that little sweet spot and get another tilt-shift two-image vertical panorama.
As it turns out, as I came up from Victoria tube station and rounded the corner the clouds had most definitely rolled in and provided very muted and flat light. I decided to hang around for a while and hope the clouds parted long enough to bring out the texture of the front of this amazing piece of London architecture.
It did happen, just barely, so I managed to fire off a few frames with my 6D and the 17mm TS-E lens, two of which combined to form this square image.
I ended up getting into another conversation, this time with another photographer who was doing some long exposures there with his Nikon D780. We ended up chatting for a couple of hours and went for a coffee at a local Starbucks.
He showed me some of his images and they were really great, a selection of really strong compositions, mainly long exposures taken in blue hour or sunrise/sunset conditions.
As I was on the way home it got me reflecting on my own photography and the fact that I can't devote as much time to it as some of the more professional photographers whose work I also admire greatly. But also It got me thinking about photographic 'style' and the fact that I've never really felt like I've quite found my artistic 'voice' yet in this medium.
But I also came to the realisation that there are so many photographers out there now cranking out these dynamic, vibrant, heavily edited long exposure masterpieces of London icons that the marketplace is sort of saturated in those kinds of images. In a way it is freeing, as I used to want to be able to create those types of images, but now I feel like there's so many other guys out there doing it what's the point of me adding to that pool? It's so difficult to stand out as there are literally thousands upon thousands of Flickerers, Instagrammers, 500pxers, Facebookers et cetera doing very similar sorts of photography.
So I think I'm resolving to find something that turns me on creatively but is not duplicating what so many other people can do so much better than me. For the time being, I will probably carry on with my own thing, which at the moment are images which feel like they capture a moment in time and that are processed fairly naturally in a way that feels true to what my eyes saw in that moment.
It's still an idealised view of the scene to some extent as I've corrected the perspective and justified the composition as best I can, but at least it feels like the real world to me!
I guess anyone who read this far will have to stay tuned to see if my artistic style settles down into something more unique as time progresses. But for now I'm just happy taking the images that feel like James Beard took them rather than trying to emulate what others are already doing.
One of the things I like about the image above is that it looks pretty simple and straightforward, but the process of achieving it took a moderate amount of effort!
De nieuwe layout is een verschrikking! Goede reden om te stoppen. Tnx yahoo :(
Voor een niet facebooker was de lay-out van Flickr een verademing, nu schreeuwen de foto's over het scherm, ook als ik ze helemaal niet wil zien......

The storm has broken but the voluminous clouds are slow to clear. As usual in these situations along the SF Peninsula, the clouds pile up against the East Bay hills before fanning out across the San Joaquin Valley. The sunny breaks are what the photographer lives for. For you FaceBookers out there, that's the new Facebook campus in East Menlo Park at the bottom of the screen.
For a bigger cloud experience check it out in black.
East Menlo Park, CA
Summer mornings here usually feature dull gray skies without a glimmer of sun until about 10:00. When I saw the sun peeking through interesting clouds yesterday morning I veered off my usual commute route for a quick stop at the Bayfront Park in Menlo Park. The park gates were open and it was high tide - my lucky day!
I grabbed the tripod out of the trunk and took a series of images to make both a pano and a vertorama. I wish I had taken the time to take bracketed images to get more detail in the shadows. I processed the images in Photomatix before stitching together, so the tones are a bit surreal. And I'm still not sure whether than patch of blue sky is a blown-out artifact or whether there really was a "hole in the sky".
By the way, those buildings in the distance (southeast) are the new Facebook worldwide HQ campus(formerly Sun HQ). Facebookers started moving in recently to the 11 building, 1 miilion sq. ft. campus spread across 57 acres. If they can get away from their workstations, they'll be able to enjoy the beautiful bayfront parks and scenes like this.
Had my first shoot where I actually directed a model, I think it went fairly well! Definitely will be doing more shoots like this in the future.
I've also got a photography page now for all you facebookers on here, so "like" dat for updates, behind the scenes, all dat jazz!

Not much else to say other than watch the video. 630 has just cleared the museum trackage and is on the mainline ready to head to Barber Jct passing through the wye at Yadkin Jct where all the facebookers are located.
thrifting score! i got this funky wreath at goodwill for $1.49 the same day i bought the adorable ceramic berry container. it's been in the garage forgotten until a fellow facebooker was talking today about recreating a wreath that Starbucks had in their stores last holiday season. Guess what? my wreath is an orig...inal from Starbucks! coolio. here's a link that shows it in the store: www.deepfriedkudzu.com/uploaded_images/DSC03426-738859.JPG

Created with www.dumpr.net - photo fun
Attended Steve McCurry's workshop, and he gave us 15 minutes to shoot around the area, then bring back the photos to get a critique from him.
and he LIKES THIS!! (maybe he is a heavy facebooker also hahaha)
He said that, 'this is the best shot i've seen after nine hundred something images'. YEAH!!!

So Im just gonna wrap the last few days with Ryan up here cause I dont remember what happened when... lol Ugh! Sorry!
General wrap-up: Things kind of got off to a bad start at his house.. Im still upset about it honestly, I havent been able to stop thinking about it n Im really not sure what to do or say about all that. But anyway, lets just skip that part. His brother whos overseas sent Ryan, Kelly, n Shawna presents and they opened them. Ryan got a ps3 (YES!) and Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Call of Duty Black Ops for it. Like right after that we went to walmart and he bought Boarderlands for the Xbox and a cheap Xbox controller, a red controller to trade with me, Dantes Inferno for the ps3, and um I might be getting his wrong but Undead Nightmare(?) I know its Undead something or another lol its like zombie Red Dead Redemption. All pretty rad games, I enjoyed watching/playing them. He gamed a lot, obviously cause he had just gotten new games and a new system lol he got very annoyed with me cause I kept trying to help him while he was setting up the ps3. We had pizza, twice! Once we order, got 3 cheese pizza and garlic bread sticks and once his mom order and got me a mushroom pizza n him a sausage pizza, both from Papa Johns lol soo goood! His room really smells like pizza now lol. We walked to 2 parks. One small one where I rode a tucan lol. And a big one that we went to at night so it was kinda creepy awesome! It was a badass little park and I could have played there for awhile if it wasnt so darn cold. We walked to the store and got Coke products lol I now have 103 MCR points! Woo! I got texted by someone who I really wasnt expecting to ever hear from again, it was a little odd lol but we had a fairly normal conversation. I got to play with Poncho.. Wait I mean Pancho lol. Hes so cute and sweet, I love him :) Hes my buddy. Ryan and I played Boarderlands, it was weird trying to convert my hands/brain to the workings of the Xbox. But it was fun lol. We watched some stuff on Netflix. We found out that theres a Bill and Ted cartoon series that, to me, is like Scooby Doo meets Jonny Bravo and they look and talk like Bill and Ted lol I liked it, Ryan not so much. He showered, I got sucked into another persons photostream, Ill share her link on a later date. After that he had me watch Californication(?), could be wrong lol we watched one episode and I want to keep watching, it was funny n interesting lol and there were a lot of boobies.. it was weird lol. But also that night I found out that Ryan jacks off on the highway.. I know, sounds highly dangerous huh? lol crazy boy! Um, hmm.. Kelly, Shawna, n Blake left early to go visit family. Oh yeah! I almost forgot! We went to Balora(?) which is just this like drive by some lake I think with a bunch of pretty awesome Christmas lights. Every year everyone talks about it but I have never gotten to go so I liked it, Blake liked it, Ryan seemed to enjoy himself even tho hes been there a bunch. We went with his mom and step dad. I love Christmas. But it made me sad because I really love and miss Christmas... Maybe its just since Grammy passed, maybe its just since we moved, I cant pinpoint it but Christmas isnt the same. I love the decorations. The shiney Christmas balls, the tinsle, the lights, the reindeer, the green n red, the random ornaments that only mean something if u remember where they came from. The songs lol like Randoff the Red Gun Cowboy. Lets see if I remember this song, someone correct me if Im wrong. Randoff the red gun cowboy had a very shiney gun and if u ever saw it ud drop ur pants n run, all of the other cowboys used to laugh n call him names, then one shining Christmas Eve Santa came to say "Randoff with ur gun so bright, wont u shoot my wife tonight" then all the cowboys loved him and shouted out with glee! Randoff the red gun cowboy, ull go down in history! lol my brother taught me that song when I was young. I love the Christmas specials! I watch them all! Rudoff, Baby Newyear I love them. and I looove A Christmas Story! Christmas is spose to be a happy time. I dont care about the presents, its everything else that makes Christmas so special. I miss that feeling, the joy. I miss yelling at the dogs to stop drinking out of the water for the tree lol I miss vacuuming up all the stupid pokey leaves from the tree, I miss Grammys decorations that were always the same.. I miss the close loving fuzzy feeling :/ My mom said Ill get all that back when I have kids but it shouldnt have ever had to go away. Thats about it for the general stuff I cant put to a day.
Well Thrusday morning around 7:30 Ryan came over, it had been like 5 days since I had seen him! Well he came over and we slept til around 3, I made him fried potatoes and eggs which he said was good but he gave me shit for how I made them thru the whole process lol, shortly after that his sister came and picked us up. I hadnt really planned on going with him, actually I thought he was going to stay with me but I just wanted to be with him.
Saturday. We set up their little bity fake tree lol which would have been more fun if it wasnt so darn complicated! I think if it was a normal sized tree it would have been simpler, n there was my amount of awkwardness cause Im still not completely comfortable there. After we set that up tho he strung Christmas lights across his ceiling, it turned out really cool. I think I liked them more than he does tho lol. Hes such a man tho! He hung them using screws and rubberbands :D Hes awesome lol. After that he found a random bag of balloons and we had far too much fun playing with those. Just blowing them up was fun! We played Dont let the balloon touch the ground, we stuck them to eachothers heads, he barried me in them, he drew on a few, and then he tourtured me by popping them lol I dont like the noise or the way it feels when it pops on u.
Sunday night. Well his brother (who Iv never met but have decided I like) had bought him a ps3 and 2 ps3 games. Im a playstation girl, and he has an xbox lol seems like trouble but it all works out lol. But anyway. He downloaded 2 demos, Flower for me and some game I dont remember the name of but its like Street Fighter characters vs Marvel characters. He told me Flower was lame but he totally liked it! And we had sooo much fun playing that other demo lol there was only 6 chars to choose from n we couldnt understand the moves list at all so we just button mashed hardcore the whole time til we figured out something that worked. We played quite a few rounds, I like fighters. He pretty much destroyed me but I won a few rounds lol. After that we played some more Boarderlands. Im liking Boarderlands. I dont completely understand it but its fun. Its a simple enough shooter to where I can kinda actually do it, hes like a whole half point bar thingy ahead of me in leveling cause hes better but I totally help! We played til like 2:30 and then called it a night cause we had to get up early.
So this morning, Monday morning. We woke up way too early and took his mom to work, it was so cold outside. After that we went back to sleep lol I didnt get to cuddle with him last night so Im glad I got to this morning. He had bought a red controller for me, and I traded him my black controller so he actually didnt buy ME anything but some color lol. And he didnt like Dantes Inferno so he sent me home with his so that I could be sure to beat it/100% it. He dropped me off and headed to work.
Within 20 minutes of being at the house I already wanted to leave.. Wont go into that. Anywho. I wanted a shower but the waters out. So I tried to turn on the TV and learned that one of my outlets and my light was out but that got fixed. Played some Dantes Inferno. Walked to the store, apparently Dasani which is a Coke product! Doesnt have a coke code, lame. But I got a Powerade, I have 121 points now. Played some more Dantes Inferno, had to ask my brother for some help lol I had gotten stuck. Started reading Desktop Publishing: An Introduction. Its boring but Im 4 exams away from graduation high school. Played more Dantes Inferno. Ate french bread pizza around 5 and pasta bake with garlic bread around 12 and have been munching on candy..Im so unhealthy.. Um what else. My sea monkey eggs hatched so now I have super tiny little shrimpies :) Its now 1 n Im watching Pineapple Express but I think Im gonna play some more Dante before bed then maybe read. Im tired but I dont wanna sleep.
Care to listen to me complain? If no, scroll down to the next paragraph. If yes, read on. Im so incredibly stressed. I dont know what to do, all I want to do is cry but I cant bring myself to do much of that. I know what I need to do.. but honestly I think Im afraid to do it. By getting a job, getting my license, and moving to a place where Im paying rent and bills, Im putting myself out there to be alone.. Even if I room with someone and split everything I could still end up alone.. They could just split on me and Id be alone to figure everything out.. And my pride wont let me go back to somewhere Iv already been, why move backwards, I rather struggle forward...or atleast go right or left, never back. Im afraid to make that step. Im afraid to be alone. I just want someone to lean on, depend on, turn to. Someone to help me do things, to help me make decisions. I know Im a big girl but Im bad at being alone. But Im also bad at depending on people, I would never want to take advantage of someone. Im too stubborn, and too afraid that Ill lean on someone who will just let me fall. I need to do something, I really do. Its time to more forward, again. I need MY space, I need to be around people that are going in the same direction as I am and that respect that, I need something of my own. Im sick of just going from one persons home to another persons home, when do I get MY home? But as of now I dont know how to accomplish this. I need a job but I dont have many options without a car, I need my lisence but I dont even know how to drive. I want someone to lean on, I want someone to tell me what I should do. I can only fake being strong for so long, I dont know how long I can carry it on. Im afraid, Im sad, and Im stuck. Its all a waiting game, Im tired of waiting. I try not to complain, and Im sorry that I do anyway. I know that I did this, I made that choice to go to Washington, I made the choice to come back, I made the choice to leave Kat and Codys. They were all my choices and I stand behind them. I say there is no right or wrong in this kind of situation, I did what I thought was best at the time being and thats all I really could do. Well now that Im crying Im done complaining. Thanks for listening/reading. I really do appreciate that u read this, but by reading this it proves that u have no life just like me lol its a pointless read but writing it makes me feel better so thank u.. whoever u may be :)
I talked to my mama tonight. Its always good to talk to her. I like to talk lol. We didnt have a too terribly interesting conversation. She said Puppy is doing good, and that its cold lol. Other than that it was the same old stuff, but we talked for a good 40 some minutes lol.
Sir Waffle needs to come back, Im bored.
I have Bohemian Rhapsody stuck in my head.
My pinkie is feeling better. All the controller gripping Iv been doing is making my pinkie want to slip out again, I can barely hold things in my left hand.. That really cant be a good thing and it hurts!
Oh I almost forgot to tell u, I switched out a few buttons on my new jacket. I kept it real simple, I dont want to over kill it lol I like it, Ill have to get pictures soon.
I was talking to Chiara, which led into talking to Ryan, about if u had to lose a finger which one would u be ok without. Index finger seemed to be the winning vote, just not my pinkies please! And then went on to discuss which one of ur senses u could live without, Ryan opted out of that one but Chiara and I decided on scent. Id be able to stay in shape better cause tempting smells wouldnt win me over lol. I wish we could all 3 hang out :/
Speaking of Ryan :)
Today makes it 3 amazing months with him. Just for Flickr -> (So if u Facebookers want to listen to me gush ur gonna have to try a little harder, but I understand if u dont lol I do talk about him a bunch.) But thats just because hes amazing, hes the best. Theres nothing he isnt good at, but he wont admit that. He makes me so incredibly happy. I could listen to him sing all day. I could listen to him talk forever. Even when hes tourturing me by pinning me down and tickling me Im just happy to be having fun with him. Iv never had so much fun playing a demo, he makes everything better. Conversation with him is the best. After 3 months he still makes my heart race everytime I see him. I honestly dont feel good enough for him, hes such a good man. Im not even sure why he likes me lol. Hes the perfect balance between a country boy and a rocker boy, I adore his strong country values and the way he wont back down from them; and his fun, crazy, and semi badass rocker ways. Hes sweet and strong and smart and funny, hes really going to make something of himself..Im sure of that. I wish I could be as strong as he is, as experienced as he is. He inspires me, not only in the means of photography, but he inspires me to be the woman I want to be. He pushes me, rather he realizes it or not. Hes helped me grow more confident and more comfortable in social situations, rather he realizes it or not. He means a lot to me and Im sure he always will, and I hope that thats perfectly ok. I want to be his. I love being his. I feel bad when I dont feel good enough, when Im not strong enough, when I dont know the right thing to say, when my inexperience comes through. I always feel bad when Im too sensitive and start to cry, when he doesnt believe that Im having fun, n when my lack of self confidence gets in the way. But he always makes me feel better, normally by pinning me down and tickling me. I adore everything about him. From his strengths, to his insecurities. Even when he talks about dead animal! lol Id cook dead animal for him. I trust him, I feel safe with him, and more comfortable with him than I ever have been before in my life. If this is all too personal to be sharing over my 365 Im sorry.. But why not share how I feel? I hope it doesnt bother him, or worry him, or even scare him. Im serious about him, I hope we go far and I can see us going far. I wish I knew how serious he was, I believe that he feels for me like I feel for him, and I trust in him completely but I just dont really know how he feels or what he thinks. Maybe its too early for all of that. Maybe I shouldnt get so serious, I know its only been 3 months, n even though it seems like a lot has happened we still have a long way to go, but I wanted all of this to be out there, I want him to know.. But I dont know how to tell him. Im afraid that sharing this with him is moving too fast. But I cant help that I fell so hard so fast.. I want to find the words and the courage to say all of this to his face so that he will know but for now this is enough, atleast I know its out there, rather anyone reads it or not. Hes the best, and I couldnt be happier. So if by chance he ends up on my Flickr Id like to say thanks for the last 3 months. Thank you for being my friend, for showing me so much, for making me so happy, and for making me feel loved. I love you.
I have said far too much for one day lol Im sorry Im so talkitive. Ha its 1:43.
Sticky note. Its just something Iv always been interested in, something I dont completely understand, but something I enjoy learning about.
Im really happy with how this picture turned out :) very cool if u ask me

Changing the Landscape: the Impact of Social Technology on the 2008 Presidential Election
Location: Fifth Floor:Open Space
Time: 3:00 PM - 3:50 PM (MST)
Facilitator: Chris Hughes, Obama for President
This talk will focus on the impact of social technology on websites -- how we are breaking out of the mold of the traditional campaign website and extending the possibilities for what supporters can do. In the past, campaigns have only been able to provide information about a candidate and then ask supporters to simply sign up to volunteer or donate.
In the new model, supporters can immediately connect with others and work to coordinate their actions in their local communities and beyond. The scope of what a supporter can do online has significantly widened, which is very good news for campaigns that are serious about empowering supporters to self-organize. We'll talk specifically about what tools the Obama campaign has developed to make this work possible.

GRENADE-LINED-VEST MAN: As himself.
PAUL: Hey whatever your fucking face is bitch from work, you're just like that girl in high school who talked too much but never to me, cause I was a fat ginger kid. Now watch me knock your socks off with my plan to control humanity with iphones, thus liberating them, natch.
PEENY: This guy next to me should be my boyfriend. I'm just gonna let him nuzzle up to me all he wants, cause damn honey, you got it goin ON!

PEENY: Ok. Gotta give him the specs. Nothing like a band-boy stalker. Oh, mention a greasy spoon... Golden Griddle! Yes! I'm totally there all the time.
PAUL: I can't believe she just said "box" then told me where she lives! This is un-fucking-real! Thank Jesus I'm a smooth talker. I really am gonna control the world. Oh.. culture... culture.. cup her... Oh, Tommy Curreau! I love that spot. Yeah, that spot, honey. You got it.

The Facebooker Who Friended Obama
www.nytimes.com/2008/07/07/technology/07hughes.html
The men behind him with laptops are journalists.
As I was reading the NY TImes articles on researchers who study Facebook tinyurl.com/2r8j9c to learn about how people form social relationships, I thought of several things.
This article highlights incredibly stupid research - and the only smart thing they highlight is Eszter Hargittai's comment on the racial territories of myspace and facebook - where latino kids are more likely to use myspace over facebook.
1.) many of theses users of Facebook don't know they are being studied! It's because they haven't checked off some privacy setting in their accounts! This is horrible - it reminds me of like old-school racist anthropology where you sneak up upon a "tribe", and introduce yourself and live with the "people" to study their ways. This is academic blasphemy! How can you research people's profiles without them being aware of it? At the least they need to sign something that allows them to be studied - like in surveys and etc? PEOPLE - set your profile so that only friends can see it! otherwise you will have some Harvard researcher studying your vampire kisses and relationship status - and concluding that you must be ugly and have no social capital because no one has bitten you or given you any kisses lately.
2.) PUHHLEASE NEVER NEVER NEVER let me do research just so I can proclaim something that any person could already tell you ok! I hate academic research that makes these big proclomations - like, "people are less social when then are upset, and this is reflective of some theory..." Or like when a researcher studies a rural village to say, look - these people are agentic - they have minds and they survive by relying on each other! these people are oppressed by their structures and yet they have agency! WOW! thanks researcher for telling us!it's like DUHHH! anyone can tell you that!
In the article, a professor wrote a paper called In The Benefits of Facebook ‘Friends, that says their analysis proves that "colleagues found that Facebook use could have a positive impact on students’ well-being." well geez - talk to any college undergrad and they could all tell you that. And they would do a better job of telling you that than some professor who spent months mulling over facebook data so that they could get their article published.
3.) watch out when the American Sociological Review (ASR) says anything is cool - in this article they say "“For studying young adults,” said Vincent Roscigno, an editor of The American Sociological Review, “Facebook is the key site of the moment.”" EWWWWWWW . Ok I love sociology, as that is what I study - but the ASR and American sociology are not really known for any ground breaking research on "young adults." SO careful when ASR says anything is the "IT" thing
4.) I hate when researchers study something they truly don't understand. When they announce their results, they think they made a discovery that the people didn't know about! Most of these researchers make stupid conclusions about Facebook - they must think that teenagers are obsessed with this and all their social ties and social relationships are mediated through Facebook. They are studying people's relationship status box and it's scary when researchers are studying how "users rate one another as “hot or not,” play games like “Pirates vs. Ninjas” and throw virtual sheep at one another — [to help] explore fundamental social science questions."
researchers - let me tell you this now - YOU CAN't TAKE TOO SERIOUSLY WHAT GOES ON IN FACEBOOK!!!! How many vampires I bite or how many pokes I give/receive/gnore is not reflective of my social life or how I form social relationships. You can't trust what people put in their relationship box. You have to be careful of how you interpret what people do on facebook. One way to solve this problem, is to have actual facebookers - like youth or undergrads - on your research team. They should be treated as equals to other researchers with their phds.
So friends friends friends - please please shake the shit out of me if my research isn't exciting and relevant to the living world, but more importantly 1.) if it treats people as idiots, and 2.) isn't something that the people I would be researching already know. I guess by writing this I have ruined any potential opportunities to be invited as a co-PI on any Facebook research- but that's ok. haha - I would rather have my research be connected to the real world than to study it as if I were above it.

ongress General Secretary Rahul Gandhis statement equating the RSS and the Students Islamic Movement of India (Simi) was not wide off the mark, which was prob-ably the reason why the former reacted so trenchantly. But more of that reaction in just a while. When it was pointed out to Mr Gandhi that there was a basic difference Simi is a proscribed organization while the RSS is not his response was right on the button. His point was not, it appears, about such technicalities but about the ideological identities between the two organizations: both, in other words, sharing the same fundamentalist mindset. May we add to that one-item list the attributes of obscurantism, lack of respect for constituted law and exclusionism. Whatever the RSS and its functionaries may say about themselves, there can be little doubt about the fanaticism and intolerant character of the RSS, its contempt for differ-ence, plurality, dissent and its penchant for enforcing, through the members of its ideological family, its own point of view to the exclusion of all others in the name of cultural nationalism, that vague euphemism for muscular Hinduism, or Hindutva. This has been seen time and again, not least during the destruction of the Babri masjid. As for the technicality of proscription, must we remind ourselves that the RSS has Character been there thrice after independence, assassina-if that proves anything? .
tion will not .
The response aired by RSS func-tionaries is revealing of their intellec-take the RSS tual bankruptcy. One spokesman anywhere urged Mr Gandhi to learn more about India and that knowing about Italy and Colombia was not enough. Another raised questions about Mr Gandhis intel-lect. We need not go into these in any detail. It is for indi-viduals to appraise for themselves what intellectual levels the various parties to the argument are endowed with. We may, however, recall then Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdohs response to remarks about his religion Christianity in the aftermath of the post-Godhra riots, when elections to be held in Gujarat were postponed due to the prevailing climate of terror in the state. Mr Lyngdoh, to put it briefly, had refused to respond to what he had termed the language of the bazaar and the gutters. It appears that the proponents of Hindutva have a penchant to fight shy reasoned argument, which is why they respond so readily to criticism with character assassination and innuendo. To most people, the Italian question became irrelevant when Congress president Sonia Gandhi relin-quished the claim to the prime ministers post. Since then she has proved more than capable as a leader and her son has been making some progress in learning more about India, which is more than can be said of the fascistic ideo-logues of the Sangh Parivar. .

leven anti-nuclear activists who were protesting in front of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics were detained by the Salt Lake police. The activists, including people from Haripur in East Midnapore district, were protesting the presence of Srikumar Banerjee, secretary of the department of atomic energy and chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, who was in the city to talk about setting up the proposed nuclear plant at Haripur. It may be of interest to note that the activists were not merely protesting against the setting up of the plant in Haripur but were agitating on the basis of a broader anti-nuclear programme: they were protesting against the setting up of nuclear plants all over the country. This is heartening for the proliferation of nuclear plants is certain to have consequences that would go well beyond the parochial confines of local distress. The people of this country recognize this and, as such, popular protests are spreading like prairie fire to Mithivirdi in Gujarat, to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, to Bargi or Chuttka in Madhya Pradesh not to speak of Haripur. .
Even though the mandarins of atomic energy tirelessly stress the clean and inexpensive nature of nuclear power, it has been observed People worldwide that nuclear power is neither .

nuclear projects and pushing the brunt of nuclear power generation onto the developing countries. Sections of the corporate media do not deign to admit this but the most dangerous aspect of nuclear power generation is the environmental and health hazards that it engenders. Whichever way one looks at it, then, nuclear energy can only be deleterious to the nation. The government may well choose to ignore this and chase the ignis fatuus of global domination, but the people have not failed to anticipate the imminent imperilment of their health and environs. As such, protests are intensifying all over the country. Incidentally, the left government in West Bengal has asked the nuclear authorities to go slow on the proposed nuclear plant in Haripur. But such a decision may not be the consequence of the state governments appreciation of popular protest or the recognition of the perils of nuclear power generation. Far more likely is the probability that the government is unwill-ing to further antagonize an electorate ahead of the assem-bly polls in a state which has been repeatedly voting against the left parties in recent times. .

he Ayodhya verdict has now been debated and discussed in the media from varied perspectives legal, historical and socio-politi-cal. Some pundits call it a khap panchayat verdict and look sur-prised. Some aver that religious faith got primacy over historic evi-dence and legal reasoning. The Sangh Parivar, jubilant and satis-fied with the verdict, is calling for a celebration of national identity and national integration and ask-ing the minorities to accept Ram as the national hero. The central gov-ernment, on its part, is arguing in terms of an acceptable verdict, reconciliation and communal har-mony. Some commentators have argued that the disputed site should have been converted into a place of public utility, say a park, instead of a religious site and so on and so forth. .
However, the fact remains that with the verdict of the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court effectively ordering the replace-ment of the nearly five-century-old mosque with a Hindu temple on the basis of theological beliefs and a dubious archaeological study car-ried out by RSS appointees the principle of Indian secularism has once again been questioned. .
However, considering the central governments alacrity over the last two weeks in identifying minority-dominated areas of several Indian states as sensitive zones and the RSSs assurance to welcome any verdict, in fact, raises the question whether the central government and the RSS were expecting a judi-cial pronouncement which would unequivocally favour the Hindu lit-igants. In fact, this verdict opens up the question of transparency in a liberal democracy like ours and foregrounds the issue of political man oeuvrability in judicial exer-cises. .
As in the Ayodhya case, in many past instances such as the Mumbai riots, Gujarat pogrom, etc, Indian secularism has been compromised by the threat of majoritarian vio-lence in a weak state which either .

does not have the physical ability to contain such majoritarian violence or lacks the political will to do so. The responsibility of the court is to administer justice. Maintaining peace is the duty of the administra-tion. It is unfortunate that the court has given a judgment that makes a mockery of a secular nations idea of justice just because it wanted to please a section of the majority community which has money and muscle power. The irony of the moment is that the Babri demoli-tion which compares in barbarity to the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas by the Taliban has now been given some sort of legitimacy with the court questioning the sta-tus of the mosque. .
It is incontrovertible that both the communities have a right to pray on the disputed site, for such has been the custom. Now the question is: where were they pray-ing? Historical records show that the majority community prayed in the outer courtyard while the minority community prayed under .

a majoritarian turn, it is the coun-trys oldest political party which is in government. So, the Congress will have to answer a number of questions as well. Even if the Babri mosque was a disputed site by 1985, it was the Rajiv-Gandhi-led Congress government at the centre that ultimately succumbed to the pressure of Hindutva mobilization and ordered the locks on the mosque to be removed and allow access to the Hindus. .
Before the Congress government was voted out of power in November 1989, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad received permission to perform a shilanyas at the disputed site. Finally, on December 6, 1992, the entire world witnessed the demolition of the Babri mosque by a politically-mobilized Hindu mob .
a ghastly criminal offence which was followed by large-scale rioting in various parts of the country. .
It seems now that the demolition has been legally justified by the high court order, thereby vindicat-ing the position of the Hindutva the domes of the mosque. Now, on December 22-23, 1949, there was literally an invasion of the mosque when idols were surreptitiously placed inside it. Jawaharlal Nehru directed the then UP Chief Minister .
G.B. Pant to remove the Ram-Sita idols that had been smuggled in. However, the district magistrate .
K.K. Nair, fearing majoritarian retal-iation, expressed his inability to carry out the order. This non-com-pliance due to fear of majoritarian violence was the original sin com-mitted by the administration of a country that claims to be secular. .
Muslim groups were always open to the idea of the construction of a Ram temple in the courtyards, so long as the mosque remained unharmed. But the Hindutva brigade never accepted that solu-tion; the mosque was demolished; and now we are witnessing a ver-dict which rules in favour of the replacement of the central dome of the mosque with a temple. .

f a tree fell in a forest and nobody was around to hear it, did it make a sound? is a well known philosophical riddle that is posed to question the notion of reality. Is something real only when it is observed or real by itself? Various religious and philosophical movements have tackled the question of the reality of existence and there is many a Zen koan around just this kind of metaphysical matters. .
However, in this modern world everything must move on, including metaphysics and phi-losophy. So the internet-era ver-sion of this question should be, in my humble opinion (Or IMHO, to use the correct e-speak): If a tree fell in the forest and there was no mention of it on Facebook or Twitter, did it really fall? Because in todays digital age, if you are not an online presence, you simply do not exist. Leading us to modify another great exis-tential statement, I Facebook, therefore I am. .
This is not as frivolous as it sounds. Facebook today has 500 million users and counting. It is valued at $33 billion though some analysts have said the fig-ure could be three times more. A new movie about the founder Mark Zuckenberg has just been made and is causing a buzz because of hints that he may have cheated his close friends and stolen their idea. .
That is as far as the company is concerned. What is more inter-esting is how Facebookers have started using it. No longer is it just a site for friends, old and new, to connect. It is great to catch up with old school friends and make new contacts, terrific to post your views and pictures of your wonderful holidays. And it allows people to show off, cry on virtual shoulders after a split up and get suggestions on where to go for a good short holiday. .
But it is also becoming a cam-paigning tool. Just recently, the Mumbai police set up a Facebook account allowing citizens to post pictures of cops breaking the law, by jumping red lights or riding a motorcycle without a helmet. It was a good initiative but after the first burst of enthusiasm (and when the page got flooded with pictures), the cops simply gave it up. Now employees of the local suburban railways have created their own page to discuss their grievances. How soon before oth-ers say teachers, municipal staff or even politicians and army men do the same? .
.
.
Marketers have already discov-ered they can reach a vast con-sumer base through Face book and there are many success stories of entrepreneurs who found cus-tomers for their niche products by advertising them via the site. .
That much we know. Some may have even heard of Facebook Fatigue, the counter-culture movement launched by many who feel that too much sharing is the bane of our times and have shut their accounts. Using FB is an addition that can take away a lot of time and atten-tion and real-life contact. Face -book sluts, as such addicts are sometimes called, spend hours in front of the computer, love col-lecting friends, share every bor-ing aspect of their lives and have forgotten the art of holding a conversation with a human being. It is far easier to post a quick pithy comment or an arti-cle from some other site than actually engaging someone real in a conversation, with all the give and take it involves. .
What is becoming more wor-rying and positively sinister is the abuse of privacy thanks to what one can do with Facebook. The site has long been criticized for its own opaque policy on pri-vacy, which allows the company to mine personal data and makes it difficult to remove personal information even after closing an account. But it is the speed and ability to spread and share any info with the rest of the world that is most troubling. .
The story of a bright student who committed suicide in New Jersey a few days ago after his sexual activities with another male were posted on an FB page is a cautionary tale. It is true that this could have happened on You Tube or for that matter anywhere else online, but only Facebook guarantees that such a post will immediately be seen, since friends and contacts of the posters will get to know of the uploading right away. On You Tube, the film could languish for days without anyone knowing. To be fair, this reflects more on the uploaders than the site, but the fact is that Facebook has made it simple and tempting to share anything and everything. .
Which brings us back to the original question: the compulsion to share and therefore prove that one exists. I am a Facebook user and am sometimes amazed and appalled at the amount of per-sonal information people want to put out in the public domain. People talk about not only the exotic trips they have been on or about the books they are reading, but sometimes about their heart-breaks and their relationships, ongoing and new. A friend recently announced to the world that she had broken up after sev-eral years and later posted that the messages of sympathies she had received had boosted her self-esteem. A friendly visit or a call from a close friend is obviously not enough. Perhaps this is the way forward in our mad, urban existence, where catching up with a real friend over a (real) cup of coffee is almost impossible, given time constraints and commuting hassles. Facebook is the adda of our times. .

Writers address must be clearly mentioned fascists. On another plane, the politico-ideological positions of those secularists who were fighting against the communal agenda of the Hindutva forces have now been compromised. .
The opportunist and alleged soft-communal politics of the Congress is nothing new: in 1986 it had brazenly tried to appease the orthodox Muslims in the Shah Bano case, barely a year after the locks on the Babri Masjid were removed. Such political tactics are not only counter-productive (for the Cong -ress government was after all ousted in 1989) but also strengthen those who want to claim many more religious sites of the minori-ties for their own religion. .
The vacillation of the Congress since 1949 on this issue, born purely out of vote-bank politicking, have distorted the secular ethos and weakened the democratic foundations of the state as a whole. The verdict is an outcome of that distortion and weakness. .
This verdict has undermined the secular democratic values and the egalitarian ethic of the country. The verdict has also shown how liberal democracy is actually illiberal because of the restraints the majoritarian political class puts on the judiciary, the bureaucracy and the police. The judiciary, including the Supreme Court, has given sev-eral anti-people verdicts in the past (one thinks of the verdict relating to the Bhopal gas tragedy, for instance). The Ayodhya verdict con-stitutes yet another chapter in that saga of anti-people and dictatorial pronouncements. .
This is not to undermine the judi-ciary as an institution but to demonstrate the limits of judiciary under liberal democracy, where we .
the people are standardly indoctrinated to think of the judici-ary as a sacrosanct and incorrupt-ible institution and abide by laws, no matter how unacceptable they may be. .
The Ayodhya verdict has once again proven that India can only be secular with a pronounced bias for majoritarianism. Only future can tell whether the Supreme Court would live up to the myth of secu-lar, liberal justice or take refuge to mythology as has so far been done in the case of Ayodhya. .

o more stimulus has become the destructive mantra of conserva-tive politicians here and across Europe. Republicans in Congress have tried too successfully to block, cut back or delay anything that looks like more stimulus, most recently legislation that would have provided jobs to 250,000 low-income workers. The enormous cost of these miscalculations should now be evident to all as the fragile global recovery falters. Economies in euro-zone countries are expected to expand by only 1.7 per cent in 2010, on average, and 1.5 per cent in 2011. The US economy is forecast to grow 2.6 per cent this year and 2.3 per cent next. .
Last week, the International Labor Organization said it would take until 2015 for employment in advanced economies to rise back to 2007 levels, two years more than it predicted last year. In its most recent economic out-look report, even the International Monetary Fund laid to rest the idea that cutting budgets would trigger fast growth by restoring confidence in finan-cial investors. The Obama administra-tion rightly argues that the deficit must be addressed, but with unemployment high and inflation low, the most urgent task is to stimulate demand to bolster growth. It hasnt had much luck getting that across in Congress. There is a Group of 20 summit meeting in Seoul in November. President Obama should use that meeting, and the grim figures on fal-tering growth, to press a lot harder for sustained support of the global econ-omy. The economy needs to recover first. .
