Dado que la película tiene un grano naturalmente fino, Fujifilm quería llevar ese aspecto a la era digital y dedicó una cantidad considerable de tiempo a trabajar ese grano original en la fórmula. Aquí hay un extracto del sitio web de Fujifilm-X con respecto al lanzamiento de ACROS:
“Lo desarrollamos desde el núcleo del archivo de imagen para lograr una expresión de grano muy compleja y natural. Se agregan expresiones de grano óptimas y diferentes para resaltar y áreas con poca luz. No encontrará una granulosidad punteada no natural en las áreas resaltadas como se comporta la película monocromática. En el área de poca luz, vería la granulosidad tal como aparecería con la película monocromática. Hay grano ondulante dentro de la imagen. Y agrega profundidad como ningún otro. ACROS también cambia la salida de granulosidad dependiendo de la configuración de sensibilidad. A medida que aumenta la sensibilidad, se hace visible un efecto de grano más fuerte, al igual que la película”.
Está bastante claro que Fujifilm se propuso desde el principio hacer algo verdaderamente único sobre la simulación de película ACROS. Son esas características sutiles arraigadas en la simulación las que hacen que sea un placer fotografiar y procesar. Tiene un aspecto que ninguna otra conversión en blanco y negro tiene, en esencia. Es nítido, limpio y rico en textura debido a su uso creativo del grano de película de aspecto natural.

Small mountain in Japan that kind of resembles Mt. Fuji. It is in Gunma prefecture at it's largest lake.
It was a rainy day in November last year and I got distracted with using vintage camera gear. This is the third shot of these pears on that day - first was shot with an old Canon 10D DSLR + Sigma 28mm f1.8, then a vintage Canon T80 film camera (world's first autofocus SLR camera), then this shot taken with a vintage Canon AE-1 Program camera with expired Fuji 1600 ASA film. I like this shot the best of the three - very grainy and shallow DoF thanks to the 55mm f1.2 lens (one of my all time favourite lenses!).
