Fiber management modules (OTIAN, which became FIST in 1997) that became key building blocks of the network elements for an optical access network. It is a management system that allows a customer-based fiber separation level (SOSA with single circuit or single element splice trays) and modules (SASA) with passive optical power splitters for PON networks. Became the global leader in products with ‘positive fiber management’ and gained expertise in optical components (connectors, splitters, WDM). Strong influence in international standard bodies like IEC, ITU-T and Cenelec. Author of many published standards. Star Telephone Membership Corporation of Clinton, N.C., will use ReConnect Program grant funding to deploy a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband network capable of simultaneous transmission rates of 100 megabits per second (Mbps) or greater. The funded service area includes 8,749 households, 19 businesses, 10 educational facilities, and three critical community facilities. The project will facilitate more access to services and information for local residents, and it will improve the overall quality of life for people in the community. My ntl broadband connection went down a few days ago. I called ntl's customer service line and they were closed (it was past 10pm). I called them the next day from work and they said everything looked fine on their end. They wanted to know what lights were flashing on my cable modem, but I told them I was at work, and I didn't remember. ntl basically told me they couldn't do anything.
I signed up for Magnet's Fibre to the Home broadband service after two days of no connectivity with ntl. ntl magically started working again and now I can compare them side-by-side.
I'm going to drop ntl soon. Their broadband service sucks (it constantly goes down for hours at a time) and their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced from any company in the States and in Ireland. It takes at least 6 tries before anyone even picks up their customer service phone line and half the time their reps don't know what the hell is going on.
They had my address wrong in their system and all my bills came late. I have the 40GB/month package and they sent me a letter saying that they were going to cancel my account if I went over 1GB/day. My friend was told they didn't service his area even though the previous tenant still had an account.
The whole company sucks gigantic donkey balls.

The TENIO system is a modular gel-sealed fiber closure system designed for use in outside plant fiber access (distribution, drop) networks. With TENIO, CommScope created a fiber closure system that allows installers to completely remove its outer housings, base and dome, even when cables are installed or when the closure is already mounted. TENIO’s tool-less gel-sealed design provides easy installation as well as 360-degree access to the fibers inside, enabling faster installations and improved fiber management. Embracing all above features and being 30 percent smaller to fit existing infrastructure, the total cost of ownership is less expensive than other fiber closure systems.
CommScope’s fiber indexing portfolio is a solution for deploying FTTx in areas with high labor costs for splicing. Fiber indexing can reduce deployment time by up to 75 percent by eliminating splicing. In addition, it minimizes cable lengths for up to 70 percent savings, eliminates cable congestion at the Fiber Distribution Hub, and simplifies inventory management by reducing the number of discrete components needed. Fiber indexing eliminates the need for splicing by offering a plug-and-play solution. This allows operators to use any level of skilled technicians (saving costs) and to deploy FTTx quicker than they could if they had to splice all connections.

Robert "Bob" Helming is the owner of Southern Montana Telephone Company in Wisdom, Montana. SMT is the oldest locally owned telephone company in Montana, and has been owned by the Helming family since 1907. Southern Montana Telephone Company (SMT) will use a $3.3 million ReConnect Program grant to construct a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Beaverhead County. The 1,688-square-mile service area includes 109 households, 26 farms and ranches, seven businesses and the Grant Fire Station. Improved broadband access in Beaverhead County will make a significant impact on agricultural and small businesses. Farmers and ranchers will be able to monitor their operations in real time and use high-speed internet to buy, sell or trade livestock.
