Theme challenge for "Looking close... on Friday!" #ORANGE

An #Orange propeller from my Quad Copter, an FPV Racer.

These propellers is made of plastic and replaced quite often like consumables because it breaks easily.

That is because the very small motors below them turns them at around 25000 RPM. The Quad has 4 of these to fly with.

This specific one is a FPV racer Quad Copter.

Using the Nikon Nikkor AF-P 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G VR DX (kit) lens.

Photo taken at Randfontein in South Africa.

I Shoot Raw.

I edit in GIMP.

Feel free to criticize or just comment.

I'm starting a drone racing team at school. Here is 3 inches of my new drone.

I frankly hesitated, stepping up from the DJI Phantom 2 to the DJI Inspire One. Biggest reason for my hesitancy was that I felt I had a workable system with the DJI Phantom 2, though it had its quirks. I wasn't sure if the extra investment would be 'worth it' for the newer system. Chief among them being, the lack of integration between the Quad and the Go Pro.

Even though there is a remote control with the Go Pro Black Edition that I was flying, it shares a radio signal adjacent with the control interface of the quad. Using the wifi remote, could end in peril. For stills, putting the Go Pro into Time Lapse, interfered with the FPV feed. So, I'd generally record 4k video and carve out still frames later. It worked well enough for most purposes..

One of the biggest Pros that i'm experiencing with the Inspire One is that camera control via a Mobile device on the ground makes a huge difference. Being able to switch between video and photo mode, control exposure and bracketing and shoot RAW were all some great touches to the overall Inspire package. It is ridiculously stable - even more so than my DJI Phantom 2 was and super easy to fly.

The only surprising drawback I'm experiencing with the Inspire One is that the FPV feed doesn't appear to extend to the full advertised 2 km control range of the radio and the FPV video feed can be jerky with high latency at distances over 500m. I won't be FPV racing an Inspire One anytime soon but these are all minor setbacks in what I'm finding is an otherwise perfect aerial photography tool.

Sony NEX-6

Leica R - 50mm f/2 Summicron

Having limited internet has made an interesting change in life. I makes it hard to do podcasts, and uploading images and polaroids is now at a significant cost.

So, I've started flying FPV racing quads a lot more (I have 3.5 acres now). I still take lots of pictures and love instant film, but this is quite a different adrenaline rush.

Oh, have I mentioned how I love this Summicron? Leica glass on the Sony is brilliant.

A different 4 day event near Roseburg Oregon. The West Coast Throwdown is all about drones. Racing, freestyle, open flying and comradery =fun. X Class were big badass drones.

Walkera Runner 250: Specifically designed for the FPV Racing fraternity. The modular design of the Walkera Runner 250 allows the Pilot to change out race damaged components in a matter of minutes as you’ll see at QuadsForFun Homepage. The Speed controllers, flight controller, FPV Transmitter, receiver, OSD and LED Lights are designed to literally plug straight into the integrated printed distribution board meaning no soldering is required, making the Runner 250 super easy to build and repair. The full carbon fiber main frame of the Walkera Runner 250 is super compact and tough and can easily handle those inevitable collisions while the built in forward and rear LED lights help the Pilot with orientation when flying the Runner 250. The onboard OSD module overlays the Pilot flight footage with available telemetry such as battery voltage and the Runner 250's tilt angle. FEATURES (Walkera Runner 250): Built-in 5.8Ghz FPV Video transmitter; Built-in OSD Module (on screen display) to show to the Pilot, real-time flight data; Factory assembled, charge the battery and fly; Modular design for easy build and repair; Self tightening toughened composite propellers; Compact and strong carbon fiber main frame; Dampened camera mount platform; Front and rear LED lights (high-power bulbs); 12-14 mins flight time. 01 - Video Camera (Included Camera): A high-resolution camera. Provides real-time image without traditional lag; 02 - White LED Light: Front lamp, stronger and better quality, high-power bulbs; 03 - Landing Skids; 05 - Counterclockwise Motor; 04 - Clockwise Motor; 06 - Clockwise Propeller (White Cap): Uses the latest composite materials; Very tough and well suited to aerobatics; 07 - Counterclockwise Propeller (Black Cap); 08 - Mushroom Antenna: 5.8 G, long transmission range, supports real-time image transmission; 09 - TX5816 (FCC) or TX5817 (CE) Emitter; 10 - FCS-Runner 250 Main Controller; 11 - DEVO-RX710 Receiver; 12 - Red LED Light: Rear lamp, stronger and better quality, high-power bulbs; 13 - Battery: 3S, 11.1 volts, 2200 mAh, 25C, Li-Po; 14 - Gimbal/Support: Uses strong carbon fiber material and provides image stabilization, with a Sport Camera like Gopro, i-look, etc; 15 - Frame Parts: Made with extremely strong carbon fiber. Walkera Runner 250 Parts: RUNNER 250-Z-01; RUNNER 250-Z-02; RUNNER 250-Z-03; RUNNER 250-Z-04; RUNNER 250-Z-05; RUNNER 250-Z-06; RUNNER 250-Z-07; RUNNER 250-Z-08; RUNNER 250-Z-09; RUNNER 250-Z-10; RUNNER 250-Z-11; RUNNER 250-Z-12; RUNNER 250-Z-13; RUNNER 250-Z-14; RUNNER 250-Z-15; RUNNER 250-Z-16; RUNNER 250-Z-17; RUNNER 250-Z-18; RUNNER 250-Z-19; RUNNER 250-Z-20; RUNNER 250-Z-21; RUNNER 250-Z-22; RUNNER 250-Z-23; RUNNER 250-Z-24; RUNNER 250-Z-25; RUNNER 250-Z-26; RUNNER 250-Z-27; RUNNER 250-Z-28; RUNNER 250-Z-29; RUNNER 250-Z-30; RUNNER 250-Z-31; RUNNER 250-Z-32; BACKPACK; WALKERA DEVENTION GOGGLE 2 FPV GLASSES; HM-05#4-Z-23. Walkera Runner 250 (GPS) Advance as the name suggest, is the new version of Runner 250. It incorporates the use of GPS by market request, and yet retain the backpack quadcopter size of 250 mm. Adding GPS features to a racing quadcopter it looks maybe somehow inappropriate but, taking into consideration that the Walkera Runner 250 Advance has about 1000 meters flight range it is very nice to have a security tool in case the pilot can’t find the way back. It introduces the latest Walkera modular component design to make assembly fast, easy and upgradable. Something familiar for pilots, it brings functions such as Return to Home and GPS Altitude Hold. Upon Return to Home, the Runner will ascend to 15 meters from the ground to avoid hitting obstacles or maintain the same altitude if it is already above 15 meters. Another highlight is the camera, capable handling low-light performance during sunsets or just street lights, which allows the Pilot to enjoy easy night flights. With the help of colorful LEDs and Turn lights indicators, night flying will be easier as never was! The specification of the camera is 12 million pixel, 1080p, 60fps. The version with the telemetry data, the OSD displays flight modes, the Pilot position, home direction, yaw angle, battery status…to name a few. Carefully designed to the last detail, a buzzer alarm will sound if you lose a signal and it will assist the Pilot to locate the quadcopter. Full HD Mini Camera (1080p -60 Fps) (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-15); Front Guard (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-05); GPS Module (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-14); GPS Fixing Accessory (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-06); Direction Light (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-17); Propeller (Blades) (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-01); Brushless Motor (CCW) (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-10); Brushless Motor (CW) (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-09); 5.8G Mushroom Antenna (RUNNER 250(R)-Z-16). Michael Zafirov

Age: 15

Nation: Hong Kong

Drone racing: Two years

“I’ve been flying drones for two years and FPV racing for 18 months. I got into it from playing with radio-controlled cars and toys, and then decided to make my own.

“The first drone I built was actually the biggest one, a 500mm quad. I built it and it was flying and hovering around – my first DIY! I don’t really race a lot, I’m into freestyle. This is only my third race, but I’m passionate about it all.

“I didn’t make the top 64. First round I crashed, second round I only had two laps in, third lap, quad failure. I’ve got a 30-second lap now, but I should have done that yesterday.”

“I think the reason Juniors are so good is because of the learning curve. They race up that learning curve. If you give them a quad and enough batteries they just practice and learn. It’s amazing, they get good really fast.

“Also it’s because of video games, they are used to that. I’m not saying the adults aren’t good, but the Juniors do seem to learn quicker.”

Stumbled upon FPV drone racing, really want to do something like that. So I have ordered a 3D printer and material to build my own. And then a friend proposed an business proposition, not related to FPV racing. But interesting nonetheless.

Also decided to test scenic rendering in Fusion 360 at the same time, lol
