Under the rain at Phoenix Ancient Town, Hunan, China

This barred owl was photographed with it's wings forward while in flight in rural Osceola County near Kenansville, Florida.

Surely you‘ll be mine. Looking forward to Spring arrival. Hücker Moor, Spenge, Ostwestfalen, Germany

The Hücker Moor is a nice little lake in the Herford area (Northwest Germany). Peat was cut here more than a century ago and created this lovely landscape. Today the place is a great location for wildlife and worth a trip for the local folks in all seasons.

The gelada sometimes called the bleeding-heart monkey or the gelada "baboon", is a species of Old World monkey found only in the Ethiopian Highlands.

I must tell you this, Horace has been watching the recent ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ competition on the TV and quite fancies having a go at ballroom dancing himself, however his joints needs a bit of loosening up as he finds it difficult coordinating his trotters. 🐷

So Horace phoned a local dance studio and asked if they could teach him to do the splits, they responded “how flexible are you at the moment” Horace responded “I can’t make Fridays”. 🙈

What a year it has been, who would ever believe we would be talking about the same subject as we were this time last year, all we can do is look forward with hope in 2022. 👍😊

Thank you all for viewing my photographs, along with the comments and general banter we have here on Flickr.♥️🙏

You have heard me say it before but I will say it again, “a smile costs nothing, but it enriches those who receive it”.😁😇

I feel very privileged when I go out that the beautiful playground of Cornwall is on the doorstep and it is such an inspiration for me to capture and share with you all.🌞

I will leave you in peace to enjoy the festivities, and I will see you again in January 2022.🎉🍷

May I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, a very healthy, happy and peaceful New Year. 🎄🎄🎅🎅🍻🎉🎉😇

It's been a while since I posted a fence shot. This is the wooden green fence at the Elizabeth Gamble garden in Palo Alto, CA. I just loved all of the new white blossoms against that green, with a bit of rain thrown in for good measure.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. HFF

The Kolanchoe is taking this nice Spring-like weather to heart, no matter what the date is... :)

On a cold clear winter morning New England Central Railroad train 611 (Brattleboro to Palmer turn that forwards the connecting 323/324 road freight traffic) rolls under the old State Street / Route 20 overpass at about MP 75 on the NECR's Palmer Sub, the one time Central Vermont Railway mainline. The small yard here that was once a busy location is now empty and seemingly little used.

Engineer Ken Hawkins gives a big smile and friendly wave from the cab of Providence and Worcester 4069, a GE C40-8W blt. Mar. 1989 as CR 6028 which passed to Norfolk Southern before being retired in 2017. It was sold to Larry's Truck and Electric and lanquished for many years until being picked up by Genesee and Wyoming and assigned to the PW. It was freshly painted in this veterans tribute scheme in September of 2024 and has mostly hidden out of the limelight in working stone trains out of New Haven. But it was recently loaned to NECR after a couple of their units suffered failures leading to a power shortage. Trailing are GE C40-8Ws NECR 4064 and 4068 blt. Mar. and Nov. 1991 as CR 6115 and CSXT 7740 respectively.

Paul Claudel’s reflections on the crucifixion are gathered in a meditation on the Apostle’s Creed titled I Believe in God. When Jesus was trying to get across to his disciples what their discipleship would involve, particularly the mother of the sons of Zebedee, he talked about servants and slaves and declared, “[T]he Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matt 20:28). Claudel observes, centuries later, “Well, if it is true that you came to serve, I daresay you got what you were after!” and then criticizes the casual attitude we have toward Christ in the liturgy: “It is painful to know that you are here at our disposal and that we can think of no better use for you than to help pass that tedious half hour before dinner on Sunday.”6 Familiarity has deadened our amazement. “A god is about to die before our eyes. . . . On the very brink of this act by which all things exist he found no way to defend himself from the shaft of love. The earth trembles and gapes, the curtain of the temple is torn from top to bottom, the graves vomit up their dead. There is a universal shuddering of the whole creation around the cross. On all sides things break asunder and yawn open.”7 The first creation, the one we stained with sin, had to be split open so that the seed of new life could find its way to the surface. And to plant such a seed in ourselves, we, too, must be split open. The blows of the hammer upon the nails in his hands must be redirected to us in order to crack us open. But this feels impossible, Claudel laments. “I feel that I have undertaken something beyond my strength. These wings of wood, how can I adjust them to sit on my shoulders?”

Calcium Carbide lamps originally date from around the start of the 20th century. This pair belong to my husband who used them for caving, they are from the mid 1970’s.

The caving, or mining lamp, has calcium carbide placed in its lower chamber, called the generator. Water is then put in the upper reservoir.

A valve is used to control the rate at which the water drips through into the chamber containing the calcium carbide. Controlling the rate of the flow of water determines the production of acetylene gas. This in turn controls the rate of the gas flow and the size of the flame at the burner and the amount of light it produces.

The lamp has a reflector behind the flame to help project the light forward, this type of lamp produces a very bright broad light.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

Here I am again with the finished version of my Nazgûl-Dragon which I started back in July. The build is quite stable for most parts but definetly not a playset:)

Looking forward to hear your Opinion on this one!

This very large bumble bee had just come out from inside this Day lily after gathering the nectar to take back to its hive so the colon can grow and reproduce. But it is also covered in pollen. The next day lily this bee would land on to search for more nectar would finish the work and pollenate the flower and start the cycle over for the next years flowers and bees!

A simple transaction that benefits both the bees and the flowers.
