After a few months of waiting, my formal invite arrived in the post.
My dad was nominated by the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire to attend the first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace.
As he runs the local branch of the Grenadier Guards association, he is considered as serving the public, so has the honour of being invited.
This being his third time whilst running the association, he's had a good run. My mum went the first time, my eldest sister the second and now my turn. My two younger sisters will have to wait their turn.
My wife is gutted that she can't go as she loves the Royal family but it's a case of one invite, one guest.
The actual admittance slip is printed on yellow paper that is handed in at the main gate on the day.
