I ne’er was struck before that hour
With love so sudden and so sweet,
Her face it bloomed like a sweet flower

My face turned pale as deadly pale,
My legs refused to walk away,

My life and all seemed turned to clay.
And then my blood rushed to my face
And took my eyesight quite away,
The trees and bushes round the place
Seemed midnight at noonday.
I could not see a single thing,
Words from my eyes did start—
They spoke as chords do from the string,
And blood burnt round my heart.
Are flowers the winter’s choice?
Is love’s bed always snow?
She seemed to hear my silent voice,
Not love’s appeals to know.
I never saw so sweet a face
As that I stood before.
My heart has left its dwelling-place
And can return no more.

Caught between the past and now
Torn by who I was,
and who I want to be
Too much buried, held within
the silence deep inside

Note:
The words in the poem are mine, but the title of the post comes from this song, which was an 'anthem' of sorts for my friends and I in high school, and even all these MANY years later is still a favorite of mine. Although it resonates much differently now than it did back then...

Hebe was the goddess of youth, daughter of Zeus and Hera. She was also cupbearer to Zeus and the gods (hence the jug she bears in this statue).

I am not sure about the "wine". The Greek gods used to still their thirst with nectar and ambrosia - spending eternal youth to them.

This is a photo that goes back just six years to 2019. Within twelve months both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic would cease their use of Boeing 747’s. These days I believe there is just one freight operator in the UK, OneAir using freight variants of the Jumbo.
Hurtling past the Aviation Viewing Park on its way to take off from Manchester is "Forever Young" a Virgin Atlantic, Boeing 747.
