Chapter 22

’The Yule Ball is approaching – a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament and an opportunity for us to socialise with our foreign guests.’

─────────────────────────────

As you can see, I’ll not post the missing-chapter-vignettes in their right order or one per day (there is no point in doing so, since they are just an ‘extra’ and I’m also working on an older MOC to finally finish it.

This scene is taken from the film, yet the vignette can be best correlated to chapter 22. I think it is hilarious that in a school of wizards, the only known squib has to handle the gramophone – a muggle invention. Yet I’m sure the gramophone is bewitched somehow, since the gramophone horn is unnaturally large.

In the books, Mrs Norris’ fur is dust-coloured, in the films it is black, white and orange-brown. I’ve had a white cat and a black cat for this MOC and decided to go with the white one for contrast.

If you haven’t had a look already, please visit the other builder’s pages and see what they created for this Harry Potter series. Each MOC is a little work of art.

KCS 4875 leads a stack train east through Romeoville, IL. Word has it BNSF has gotten PTC to work for foreign units, so hopefully scenes like this become more commonplace in the area.

BNSF SD75I 279 leads the Empire Builder on the final leg into Chicago.

P42DC 179 stopped loading in Wishram, WA on its westbound trip to Portland, so the SD75I was added and stayed on for the eastbound trip.

October 2, 2021 - Went to Jeff Lane Motor Museum in Nashvile, Tennessee. This place is fantastic! Over 500 vehicles. I've been to one of the best car museums in the U.S., Petersen Auto Museum in L.A. but this one is right up there with it. Specializes in foreign cars and unique vehicles. Half of these I'd never seen or heard of. Well worth going to.

With the old ATC signaling system having been retired on June 1, 2022, all kinds of foreign power leaders and lashups are now possible on UP's Geneva Sub, provided said lead locomotives are equipped with PTC.

A prime example of this was put on display the night of June 6 as CN 5709 (SD75I) led a trio of CN locomotives on a westbound coal train through La Fox, IL, living up to the "foreign" power moniker!

CSX L306 cuts through the chilly fall air in the village of Emmett, Michigan. Its making use of trackage rights on CN between Port Huron and Flint where it'll terminate at LSRC's McGrew Yard. Going west from Port Huron, this is where the scenery starts to open up and become a bit more varied beyond just trees. The Star of The West Milling Company provides a nice backdrop. While on the hunt for trains I saw this guy leaving the yard and got ahead of him via I-69. For once road construction didn't hinder me!

GWN004, a 3'6" gauge loco (Queensland's gauge) is sitting in the afternoon sun at Paget on the outskirts of Mackay in North Queensland. This loco is now owned and operated by One Rail Australia who have taken over the former operations of Genessee and Wyoming Australia, a successful American shoreline operator.

GWA operated much traffic on the former South Australian Railway network and in particular, what is currently the standard gauge system. These "narrow gauge" locos actually operated out of Whyalla hauling iron ore from the local mines to the steel works. The company decided to get into the coal business in Queensland and the class which is technically the same as the Aurizon 4100 and Pacific National 83 class and built in Queensland in Maryborough have been transferred to the Mackay area (Goonyella system) for this traffic. I am not sure where they are fitting in and what mines or contracts they will service.

The strange thing is, to replace them in Whyalla, several former Queensland Railways/Aurizon 2170 class have been repatriated from South Africa where they went after sale from Queensland a number of years ago. Like members of the same class also repatriated for use by Watco on grain, freight and perhaps in time other freight in Queensland, they have returned home to Australia to serve out their days.

A fisheye shot of the new 'Foreign Office Architects' designed Grand Central Station / Shopping complex in Birmingham, hot off the press, following my trip there for the Photography Show at the NEC.

This is one of a number of shots I took before I was approached by Security who told me I was not allowed to take photos. Having suggested that maybe they should put up some notices to that effect he asked me not to take any more.

I mostly complied with his request........

We just wanted to walk a while to the west coast of Portugal. Half the way, the clouds became darker and darker. Totally wet, we finally arrived at the coast. And the landscape we saw was just awesome!

They sold their land, travelled to a foreign land, hoping to earn some cash to send back home.

However, some are ill-treated by their employers, where they have to put up with poor working conditions and deal with late payment of their salaries.

This is the foreign domestic samurai, fighting every day, to earn a decent pay.
