We had a great Birding for Families outing in July 2022! 19 attendees went on an accessible bird walk, in partnership with the Feminist Bird Club and Access Ability Wisconsin. Two visitors checked out Birding Backpacks from the library to assist them in their birding! Photos by Library staff.
For World Book Day (March 3 2011) the children are asked to dress as a character from a book. We don't have a dressing up box, so I suggested our eldest daughter could wear stripey tights and be Lola, I've just made her some hairclips in the style of Lola for her to wear! Certainly easier than a whole costume which will never be worn again!

Pilgrimage for a Better Future: From the Heartbreak of Immigrant Detention to Thriving Communities
Pilgrimage launch at San Quentin State Prison
From May 28th – June 1st, 2022, a group of about 40 pilgrimage participants traveled from the California Bay Area to California's southern border and rallied with local communities at 7 facilities detaining immigrants (or having a relationship with ICE) along their route. The participants were composed of community members who have been detained, faith leaders, and leaders in the movement to transform carceral systems.
In addition to the 7 detention facilities*, the journey included visits with people who shared the experiences of Japanese internment during WWll. Also, a visit to a Sikh temple to hear from someone who advocates for and provides support for immigrants coming from India.
This pilgrimage was organized by the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity and the Dignity Not Detention- California coalition.

Dal mese di giugno 2022 è in corso lo scavo archeologico del giardino di Largo Corrado Ricci, tra Via dei Fori Imperiali, Via Cavour e Torre dei Conti.

Questa area della città conserva una stratificazione storica e urbanistica estremamente ricca.
Andando a ritroso nel tempo, infatti, il giardino era stato sistemato a seguito delle demolizioni operate negli anni Trenta del secolo scorso per la realizzazione di Via dell’Impero, l’odierna via dei Fori Imperiali, inaugurata nel 1932. Le demolizioni avevano raso al suolo l’ottocentesco Palazzo Nicolini insieme ad altre strutture abitative e commerciali la cui costruzione, grazie ai documenti di archivio, si può far risalire al XVII secolo. Ancora prima, tra XIII e XIV secolo, erano in questa zona strutture connesse alla fortezza urbana della nobile famiglia dei Conti, che aveva il suo perno nella grande torre voluta da papa Innocenzo III (1198-1216). In epoca romana, qui sorgeva il Foro della Pace, fatto costruire dall’imperatore Vespasiano (69-79 d.C.) tra il 71 e il 75.

Lo scavo attualmente in corso si prefigge di raggiungere e indagare proprio il settore nord-orientale di questo Foro, al confine con il muro perimetrale dell’attiguo Foro di Nerva all’altezza delle celebri “Colonnacce”.

Nella conferenza, tenuta da personale della Sovrintendenza Capitolina che lavora nel cantiere, si illustreranno non solo gli aspetti scientifici delle indagini archeologiche ma anche quelli legati alle problematiche connesse alla progettazione e all’esecuzione di uno scavo collocato in pieno centro storico, in una città come Roma. Inoltre saranno illustrate le azioni messe in campo per la comunicazione e condivisione dell’andamento dei lavori con la collettività attraverso le reti social e le visite didattiche in cantiere.

For $1.99 at the garden store they offered a little dixie-cup with a peat pot and dirt pellet inside with three watermelon seeds. Amazingly enough two of the three seeds have germinated and I could potentially have watermelons! I am excited.
For dinner, Kurt made salmon cakes with garlic-steamed broccoli. Of course, Grace was thrilled to be of assistance.

Celebrating Six Years of Success with a Party in Colombo
Mitra Innovation recently celebrated its sixth year of success, by throwing a party for our employees.
The party was attended by the three co-founders of Mitra Innovation – Ashok Suppiah (CEO), Derek Bell (COO) and Dammika Ganegama (MD) – as well as most the company’s Directors, and its 180-strong employee force, along with their husbands, wives or partners who also attended. International team members flew out to Sri Lanka to join the celebration as well.
The party was held at the Jaic Hilton in Colombo, and the theme was ‘Tropical Fiesta’. Mitra Innovation enjoyed an amazing night including a dinner, a dance and a Calypso band.
Mitra Innovation started from humble beginnings in 2012 with a skeleton staff, one office and two clients. Because the party has now grown to a global organisation with an employee headcount of 180, key clients including Capital Alliance, Ramsay Healthcare and Travis Perkins, and five offices – three in Sri Lanka, an HQ in London, an additional office in the UK– the party was thrown as a celebration of success.
Ashok Suppiah says: “Mitra Innovation has come a long way since we began trading in 2012, and a huge part of this success is due to our passionate, dedicated and driven employees, both in the UK and Sri Lanka. We wanted to throw a party to say thank you to all our employees for their hard work and effort. It was a great event!”

For over a decade, Merchants Bank of Alabama has actively supported Cullman County schools through their substantially generous Adopt-A-School program.
This morning, the school complexes in both Fairview and Hanceville were the fortunate recipients of the 2016 Christmas edition of the Adopt-A-School program.
Led by CEO Steven R. Glasscock, President Charles R. NeSmith as well as Executive Vice President W. Clark Rainwater, Merchants Bank of Alabama delivered two brand new John Deer XUV Crossover Utility Vehicles (‘Gators’) to Fairview and Hanceville High Schools.
Principals Dr. Chris Gambrill (Fairview) and Jimmy Collins (Hanceville) were on hand to accept these gifted vehicles on behalf of their respective schools.
The Crossover Utility Vehicles will be the on-site responsibility of Cullman County Sheriff’s Office School Resources Officers Deputy Jeff Lawson (Fairview) and Deputy Chad Whaley (Hanceville).
Whaley was particularly excited to have been bequeathed a Gator: “Hanceville has a sprawling campus. While I do not mind walking several miles each day, there will be multiple times per day where a vehicle will come in extremely handy when I need to be all the way across campus at a moments notice. I am very excited about this!”
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry was instrumental in the decision-making process according to Charles R. NeSmith:
“Sheriff Gentry was very amenable to the idea when he was first approached about his SRO deputies needs on campus. His enthusiastic support for this year’s Adopt-A-School program has been invaluable. WE are very grateful for his participation.”
