Dear Autumn ....
I have to tell you, that ours is over ...
I find it unbearable to think that within a year we will not see, but keep that little leaf fondly how good times we did spend ...always yours ... B :-)

There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the forest clothed to its very hollows in snow. It is the still ecstasy of nature, wherein every spray, every blade of grass, every spire of reed, every intricacy of twig, is clad with radiance.

Seagulls are fondly remembered in Utah for helping Mormon settlers deal with a plague of crickets. The seagull is now the state bird of Utah and a monument in Salt Lake City commemorates the event, known as the ‘Miracle of the Gulls’. Seagulls are very clever. They learn, remember and even pass on behaviours, such as stamping their feet in a group to imitate rainfall and trick earthworms to come to the surface. Seagulls’ intelligence is clearly demonstrated by a range of different feeding behaviours, such as dropping hard-shelled molluscs onto rocks so that they break open so they can eat them, and following ploughs in fields where they know upturned grubs and other food sources will be plentiful.
I fondly remember my old cat, Mr. Purry Furry, with this tribute to cats and color. I think we all need a little dose of color in our lives as this long winter of our discontent lingers on.

This incredible super mummy and Sumatran Tiger is called Kirana. I'm sure those photographers who were regulars at Chester Zoo will know her fondly because she is a natural at posing. I rest my case!!
Kirana is now enjoying retirement at the Big Cat Sanctuary, Kent. She clearly enjoys attention though, even on a hot afternoon and from what I observed yesterday, has settled in really well.
Bruges’ convenient compact size allows you to carelessly get lost and saunter hand in hand along one of the many lovely canals. The possibilities are truly endless, but Groene Rei has to be one of the most beautiful locations belonging to Bruges. It offers a varied yet typical Bruges scenery with old bridges and historical buildings framed by a touch of nature. No matter where you go in Bruges you will no doubt fall in love with the cities arteries and afterwards fondly remember those walks along

Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms
~ Poem by Thomas Moore
Believe me, if all those endearing young charms,
Which I gaze on so fondly to-day,
Were to change by to-morrow, and fleet in my arms,
Live fairy-gifts fading away,
Thou wouldst still be adored, as this moment thou art,
Let thy loveliness fade as it will,
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart
Would entwine itself verdantly still.
It is not while beauty and youth are thine own,
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear,
That the fervor and faith of a soul may be known,
To which time will but make thee more dear!
No, the heart that has truly loved never forgets,
But as truly loves on to the close,
As the sunflower turns on her god when he sets
The same look which she turned when he rose!
My oldest Grandson will be 21 this year. We don’t talk on the telephone much these days, just a quick text once in a while.
But I fondly remember the days when he and I would strike out on an adventure and he’d call out “come on Grandpa, come look at this” Those were precious moments.

For many years, this bridge has carried cars over this old railway cut along Windsor, Ontario’s riverfront. The tracks are long gone, but at one time rail box cars where shunted, and loaded onto ferry boats that would carry them across the Detroit River. I actually worked in a building right next to this cut, and fondly remember the banging of the shunted box cars.
Firstly let me apologise for my lack of comments recently. Getting time for a house move and liasing with 'trusted trader.com' whilst various other household issues are going wrong , think a knackered boiler and having to call him back 3 times because he failed to fix it becomes onerous to say the least, a poorly pooch who is now thankfully back on the mend, MOT's and the dreaded 2hr calls to Virgin Media and you get the idea.
How anyone working nine to five gets anything done is beyond me.
Anyway, today's image is one that I'll miss fondly and I suspect the dog will miss it even more fondly.
Remember back before the pandemic, when people would gather in throngs over the transition from Winter to Spring?
As America struggles to get our population to work together to defeat the spread of COVID, I look back fondly on what seem like quaint times. Influenza was taking tens of thousands of people each year for 100 years, but people came to accept it as a fait accompli. Now, after nearly a year of with nearly zero influenza cases, we know that wearing masks in public, washing hands frequently, and keeping apart from one another when we feel "under the weather" is a wise idea.
We're not out of the woods, yet. There's still a way to go, in terms of vaccinations (I received my first, today) and getting people to comply with basic health and sanitation protocols on their own, but I am hopeful that we are heading in the right direction, and that this sight will not be relegated to the history books.
As autumn starts to draw in for real, I think fondly of this patch of hellebores in my garden that will soon start to emerge for another glorious showing.
He hoped it would snow recklessly and bring the impossible winter purity, so rare and precious, he remembered fondly from his youth.

In memory of our wonderful Flickr friend Ken, and who was even a lot more than that to us. He loved these mountains and often talked to me of them fondly. I will "find" him here now, every time I ramble up there. He would laugh at that and his "way" graciously "sits" wonderfully well with me. It will be no extra load for me to carry!
Ill catch you soon Ken!

Around this time of year before the pandemic, my parents and I always used to travel to either Ottawa or Toronto but I'm limiting my travel to times and/or places that are warm enough to do outdoor dining only. After having Covid for 17 days in August and having complications due to my Anemia, I just don't want to take any additional chances. I am still fondly remembering the trips I took but I am also wondering how many years this is going to go on. I feel like traveling as one gets older is much more difficult and I am sad about the loss of time. Still, I think this pandemic is hardest on the young people in the world and I worry that they are going to grow up with all kinds of complications after having Covid again and again when the adults in their lives didn't take this seriously.
Either way, I am happy that I was able to come home to Rochester, NY and see my family again this year even if I miss Canada.

Really pleased to get one of these a first for me.
The Clouded Yellow is one of the truly migratory European butterflies and a regular visitor to Britain and Ireland. Although some of these golden-yellow butterflies are seen every year, the species is famous for occasional mass immigrations and subsequent breeding, which are fondly and long remembered as ''Clouded Yellow Years''. A small proportion of females are pale yellow (form helice), which can be confused with the rarer Pale and Berger's Clouded Yellows.

S.S. MASTER
Length Overall 85 ft
Beam 19.5 ft
Tonnage 225
Power Triple Expansion Steam Engine
Propeller 8′ – 9 pitch
Horse Power 330 hp
Normal Cruise 7 knots @ 100 rpm
The SS Master was built in 1922 for Captain Herman Thorsen. Very few ships were being built in the province during this period, (only 6 over 40′), and the Master was just about the last tug launched with a triple expansion steam engine installed.
The Master was one of a trio of wood hulled tugs that were turned out at the Beach Avenue Shipyard in False Creek. Although almost identical in design and size, the MASTER was however, 5′ shorter than the other two, the SEA SWELL and the R.F.M.
**Information as per www.ssmaster.org/
Trivia: Nautical vessel designation, the letters SS stand for steam ship or screw steamer., was originally used to distinguish a screw steamer from a paddle steamer, which was called a PS.
Tugs are by far my favorite boats.
My dad's early career was living and working aboard local coastline and deep sea tugs.
Dad's step brother (in his early years) was the engineer of the SS Master. My dad recalls spending time upon the Master assisting him in fine tuning the steam engines on this beautiful tug.
The Master's sister tug, the R.F.M was another tug my dad fondly remembers working on.

Sinead O'connor_She Moved Through The Fair
My young love said to me
My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
For your lack of kind
Then she stepped away from me
And this she did say
"It will not be long love
Till our wedding day"
She stepped away from me
And she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her
Moved here and move there
Then she made her way homeward
With one star awake
As the swan in the evening
Moves over the lake
I dreamt it last night
That my dead love came in
So softly she moved
That her feet made no din
Then she came close beside me
And this she did say
"It will not be long love
Till our wedding day"

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is fondly called as the “Toy Train”. This toy train ride of Darjeeling is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this popular ride connects Darjeeling with Siliguri. It is one of a kind experience and is one of the famous narrow 2 feet gauge trains. This amazing toy train runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling and it also passes through one of the highest stations in the world that is Ghum. This station is nestled at an altitude of 2258 meters and offers a spectacular aura filled with natural bliss
One of my favorite image processors in the photog community is Ryan Dyar. In some of his photos there are these Dr. Suess's looking flowers. I knew I would some day find myself high enough up in the Northern Hemisphere to see one.
They primarily grow at higher elevations and can be found in the springtime scattered around the pacific northwest and Canada.
I'm not sure if it's a flower or a weed but I really like the way it twists into something that resembles a bottle brush found under the sink in Whoville. I still haven't been able figure out the name of this thing is....but some have said it's called fire weed. I'm not sure if thats true.
I took this one in British Columbia with my brotog William(Bill) McIntosh otherwise fondly known as "Tenacious B"

The fun design of these graters is the work of a charming Parisian company. They are fondly called "Nonna" (grandma) and they enchanted me so much that I could not resist and bought two.

Another one from years ago that I felt could be processed better, and I do think it's a distinct improvement.
I've always liked this shot, and remember (less fondly) the squelchy mud and awkward pose I had to do to get under a decaying wharf.

Autumn is in full swing near the water all around the lake. I waited for sunrise to come up over the horizon so the light would be softer and give me more directional light on the trees. There was a thick layer of fog on the water that added some extra love to the whole morning. The best images are always the unplanned ones as they are such a gift when I get them back behind the computer and up on the screen. I always looks back fondly on them. My shoes were wet that morning but my heart was warm.

I'm in the act of tidying out my archive a bit these days, but as usual I'm not getting very far. Stumbled upon this older photo I took during a hike in the Zillertal alps (Austria).
Rather poor quality (this was the worst lens I've ever owned!), but I remember that day fondly, so I played around a bit with Analog Efex (especially adding blur / reducing edge definition) and Topaz Studio (especially Bliss - 30% opacitiy, and Hummingbird Wing - 50% oppacity, and some self created painterly effect)
... and yes, there was a thunderstorm coming in ; ))
Happy (Slider) Sunday to you !!

Another "lost place" capture aka "lost file from the archives", processed to the Max for Sliders Sunday :-) I think this should be my last urbex upload for a while. Not taken at the abandoned lung sanatorium as my previous two uploads, but at the Gefängnis Köpenick, an old prison in the south-eastern Berlin borough of Köpenick. Today, the prison is both a museum (located at the smaller women's wing) and a photo location (located at the men's wing; please check the first comment for more info on the place's history if you like).
When Sabine.R and I visited the old prison back in September 2018, there was a public exhibition on the ground-floor and first floor of the men's wing. What first seemed to be an "obstacle", soon turned out to be an interesting addition to and also relief from the very monotonous and depressing atmosphere of the old prison with its terribly small and very spartan cells, and in retrospect I regret that I didn't take more captures of the exhibition. On each floor (five in total) there was one slightly bigger room such as you can see here. I can only guess that those bigger rooms were some sort of "communal rooms".
The sliding, also fondly known as over-processing, is obvious here, I think. This was my first ever shot taken with the LX100's bracketing function, handheld, so not all-over sharp, but the bracketing helped a little to deal with the very difficult light situation there. I added a dark vignette in Analog Efex to hide some of the blurry parts, and I did quite some detail enhancing in Luminar 3 which added considerable grain which I did not remove with Topaz DeNoise this time, because I think it adds to the gloomy, gritty atmosphere. As an extra I "borrowed" the fish painting from a shot I'd taken in the communal room on the first floor.
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, and have a great week ahead, dear Flickr friends!

Now that summer is coming to an end here this week (according to the date already on the last Tuesday), you can already start looking forward to the next one ;-) From tomorrow it will be colder here and the sky will cry ... This photo is even from last year – and I can always fondly remember the lightness of that summer ... The end of something is also the joy of the next and the memory of the past.

He almost reached the house before taking a step back and noticing the swirling clouds. Did it really take him the entire day to reach his sanctuary?
A light rumble was heard nearby, but it was not of thunder, instead, it belonged to a glistening white wise one whose magnificent fur stood out in the evident darkness. A light gruff followed, mane blowing in the breeze as he looked up into the sky and let out a magnificent roar.
The man smiled watching the moment, feeling his own inner roar of strength engulfing him. Just in time to feel the first drop of rain that was falling.
"The rain would like my company tonight?" he questioned, unmoving and allowing to experience the wrath or perhaps the excitement of the storm.
"Oh no! Don't stay out there, come inside!" a voice called from the sanctuary that even the wise one tilted his head towards and scurried towards a tree for shelter like a big scared cat.
This caused old laughter to escape, "She does have that effect on everyone." said the man fondly and without wasting much time he retired into the small house. Prepared for a much bigger storm than what was outside...

" I send the pansies while the year is young,
Yellow as sunshine, purple as the night;
Flowers of remembrance, ever fondly sung
By all the chiefest of the Sons of Light;
And if in recollection lives regret
For wasted days and dreams that were not true,
I tell thee that the "pansy freak'd with jet"
Is still the heart's ease that the poets knew
Take all the sweetness of a unsought gift,
And for the pansies send me back a thought."
- Sarah Downdney - Pansies
This title better applies to places where they are born spontaneously (Europe mainly) because in Brazil pansies can be considered a sought-after gift since you have to cultivate them if you wish to have their beauty and colors enchanting your life.
Sowing takes place in Autumn so that they bloom from early Winter until Spring.
Used in the decoration of gardens, forming clumps in large grassy spaces, such as borders along paths or bordering flower beds, and it also develops well in pots and planters.
As it appreciates the cold climate, in Brazil it is mainly indicated for high altitude regions in the South and Southeast of the country.

n celebration of all the the things that will keep our planet safe & healthy. I'm hoping that COP 26 Glasgow is a success but I have my doubts. We have to hope that our world leaders step up to the plate & take responsibility to ensure a future for our children's, children. If they do history will remember them fondly. If they can't do it - we have got to do our bit to take some individual actions to help. Our wind turbines which I've learned to love. It's a new dawn for us to create.

There are over 1000 natural arches in Arches National Park, but this one was in my direct line of the sunset. I took this about one year ago just before COVID put everyone on lockdown. I remember this trip with my oldest daughter very fondly. We had hiked so many trails that day. It was warm but not overly so for the spring day that is was. She was very patient with me as I was hoping for a magnificent sunset. I the colors did pop even more that night but I rather enjoy this one for the handfull of people that were also taking in the sights. Many had made their way to the window of the arch. When you go to this park you have the immediate urge to go through the arch. This was shot with my Canon 6d before I switched this past year to Sony.

A close up of the face of the Jizo statue of the Ontake Shrine, walking on the Nakasendo trail in the Kiso Valley (Japan) between Yabuhara and Narai via Torii Pass.
Information about Jizo (found on the internet):
""The Jizo Boddhisatva, ‘O-Jizo-san‘ in Japanese honorific language, is a deity fondly loved by Japanese people. You will find Jizo statues in a lot of places: in Buddhist temples, graveyards, at the side of the road in the countryside and, less commonly, at the corner of some streets in the cities.
Their main role is to protect children. They also protect the souls of children who passed away and unborn babies. In the Japanese beliefs, it is thought that the soul of children who died before their parents, consequently making their parents suffer, are not able to cross the river to the afterlife. They remain on the side of the river, having to pile stones as an act of penance. Devils come to try to destroy these stone towers, and this is when O-Jizo-san appears to save them and hide them from the evil spirits in his clothing. He then looks after them as as guardian in replacement of their parents.
The other main role of Jizo is to protect the travelers, which is why you will often find Jizo statues on the side of the roads like on the picture below. This tradition is derived from the ancient belief of Dosojin. Dosojin is a deity who protects travelers. The deity statue was placed on mountain pathways, crossroads, and at the borders of villages. The statues were generally in the shape of a couple. With time, Jizo has taken their role.
Jizo also protects firefighters and saves the souls suffering in the afterlife.""
Watching the flowers come and go in my garden is a bittersweet. When the Forget-Me-Nots and Roses shed their blossoms I'll remember them fondly. Yet....wait....my Echinacea flowers and Yarrow are calling! Hooray for Spring with Summer around the corner!

The sun soon to fall behind the distant Isle of Arran.
Today was the funeral and burial of my mum. For reasons beyond my control I was not able to attend. I am heartbroken.
Mum only managed to visit me once after I moved to Scotland as she was not a very good traveller. She would never fly and was afraid of long train journeys. That one time though, we took both of my parents by ferry to the Isle of Arran, here, and returned to Troon to eat some of the best fish and chips in Scotland. The fish jumped out of the harbour and into the fryer to order and we sat on a bench around the corner and watched the sun set with our supper.
Both of my mum and dad remembered those fish and chips very fondly, they must have been nice!
In any case... I'll be finding a tidal pool like this one tonight to watch the sun and it's reflections fall beyond the Isle of Arran once again. I will be remembering and thinking of my family.
Be safe my Flickr friends.
