A photo of the Ottumwa Hydro Dam taken from the north bank of the Des Moines River with birds circling the turbulent waters, The hydro-electric station in the foreground was built in 1930-1931 and the gates were replaced in the 1960s. There is currently a plan to rehab the dam again; a $50 million project that would span a 15-year period.

When taking photos in a woodland area, often the best advice is, "don't photograph the trees". Rather, capture elements of the forest that contribute to the composition and support the narrative. Those thoughts occurred to me when shooting this waterfalls, that has no name.

Capturing the color of the water in the shadows was the firest element. The second would be the warm colored rocks that are closer to the light. Next, catch the flow and the trail of the water as it lands and travels beyond the image. Finally, emphasize details that illustrate shadowed areas, rock formation, and plant life. Borrowing a saying from the woodland genre, would guide the composition of this image, that illustrates the narrative.

Padley Gorge is a deep but narrow valley in the Peak District, Derbyshire Nr the village of Grindleford.

The gorge is wooded with a stream, the Burbage Brook. This stream used to form the boundary between Derbyshire and Yorkshire.

Padley Gorge begins near Grindleford Station at a stile where a post has been installed. Although the valley continues up towards Hathersage Road and Burbage, the gorge finishes at the edge of the woodland.

Due to the wet weather capturing this image was risky to say the least, the ground muddy, rocks slimy and the bank very steep in places, adding to all of this was the fast flowing and in places deep water!

We have just spent the last few days in Glencoe in which we had some mixed conditions weather wise. This is the River Coupall looking towards Buachaille Etive Mor, heavy rain over the previous days lead to a very full flowing river and with late afternoon light helping to enhance the mood.

At midstream you stand, the flowing current

touch your feet, transient, fleeting, in an instant.

Flows the water current, constantly touching you

How many cusecs of it, you think, belongs to you ?

Either consider the entire water current is yours

else be certain, really nothing of it is yours

What you belong to is what that belongs to you

Yet, own nothing of the Whole that you belong to

Only class of conscious force is at work

in all parts of each thing of everything Here

All five elements have come into existence

by reason of distinct discrimination of essence

Comfort and discomfort experienced by the senses

Chemical reactions of different types of substances

which collide with the senses in different conditions

and create subtle , entirely varied vibrations

All mental and physical substance, existent

Are part of the incessant flowing force, consistent

Substances flow unceasing, uninterrupted

Your belongings are eternal, unlimited.

Immortal Soul is pure, in union with One

'I' am part of the Whole, which contains me.

Whole is One, a part of which 'I' am wholly

at one with the One, the Whole belongs to me.
