ducks are not too noticeable, but if you look closely at the center of the frame, you can see them :)

Last week, during the "swallowtail shoot", this butterfly decided to leave the withered clover and fled to the nearby barley field. Maybe he thought he was sufficiently camouflaged there?

For a few minutes and a few pictures, he lingered on the corn ear on the edge of the field, before going out into the new day.

It decided to feast some more before fleeing.

Should have upped the iso even more.. I am a chicken when it comes to upping the iso. Next time..

Reading the sign that Doc and I have posted mid-way down our driveway - would you feel welcome, or would you flee?

(Enlarge to read the sign.)

Most rural Alaskans are a friendly bunch - but occasionally you come upon one that lives like a hermit, and does not want to engage in conversation with other human beings. In that case it is best to leave them alone before a bullet is sent your way, or a very large dog approaches with teeth bared.

Either way - you are in BIG trouble.

Soaking up some evening sun at the edge of Boggy Creek, this young fellow doesn't seem to have any common dove sense. However, his parents and I love him anyway.

His parents flee when I walk within 10 feet or so of them. They call to him to do the same but he just looks at them like they are nuts. He will look at them, then at me and back and fourth trying to decide if he is going to stay or go. He seems to be putting a lot of effort into his decision, then just continues with whatever he was doing. He may be eating millet and seeds his parents threw out of the main feeder for him, he may be enjoying a drink or a bath in Dove or Boggy Creek or simply resting.

Although, I think he is adorable and I am sort of glad he is not afraid of me per say, I wish he would listen to his parents. One of these days there could be a real danger and he won't have time to ponder while he is sitting there looking like hawk bait.

All of the other juvenile doves that hang out in my yard listen to their parents. They head for the trees or a roof top when I wonder too close for comfort.

I wish the best of luck to this little guy as he grows and learns.

Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.

Thanks for viewing my photo, comments are always welcome and appreciated.

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!

A small hornet type of insect fleeing from a large butterfly!

For some time I walked along the deserted port looking for "Life" when, to my amazement, I saw a small bar made of wood with Mexican decorations and a fish stall. There were some "Mojitos" on the bar, as if they had just been made, but what intrigued me was the absence of people in the place, and it occurred to me that something scared the people who were here and they had to flee.

I was tempted to grab one of those delicious looking "Mojitos" and drink it, as the many days I spent sailing the seas of SL left me with almost no food and drink, but I didn't. I didn't know how long they had been there, what they were made of, or what had happened that they were left on the counter.

The fish in the stall were fresh, as if they had just been caught and put up for sale, but on my approach to the harbor I didn't see any fishing boats, not even when I arrived at the harbor. I thought about picking some fish and leaving some Lindens as payment, but I thought the same way I thought about the "Mojitos" and I didn't after all. There was still a lot of sea to sail home and I could always catch some fish on the boat.

The wind was blowing from the West, and it brought me the smell of freshly cooked food, and due to my gastronomic experience of tasting traditional dishes in the ports where I stopped, my nose "told me" that it was Asian food. Almost at the bottom of the harbor I had seen a mini Snack-Bar with illuminated signs. The smell coming from that place activated my HUNGER sensors, my belly was asking for food... so... I decided to walk towards the Snack-Bar to try to eat something... when... I heard a meow not very far from the place where I was and as I approached the meow became more intense... there was no doubt that there... was life in that place.

Happiness hit her like a train on a track

Coming towards her, stuck still, no turning back

She hid around corners and she hid under beds

She killed it with kisses and from it she fled

With every bubble, she sank with her drink

And washed it away down the kitchen sink

The dog days are over

The dog days are done

The horses are coming

So you better run

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father

Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers

Leave all your love and your longing behind

You can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over

The dog days are done

Can you hear the horses?

'Cause here they come

And I never wanted anything from you

Except everything you had

And what was left after that too, oh

Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back

Struck from a great height

By someone who should know better than that

The dog days are over

The dog days are done

Can you hear the horses?

'Cause here they come

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father

Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers

Leave all your love and your longing behind

You can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over

The dog days are done

Can you hear the horses?

'Cause here they come

The dog days are over

The dog days are done (here they come)

The horses are coming

So you better run (here they come)

The dog days are over

The dog days are done (here they come)

The horses are coming

So you better run

I will flee to my "country house" tomorrow and will have less internet but more to do in the yard instead of being almost locked up in a city apartment without a balcony. Keep your photos coming, I'm looking forward to them!

HOP-A-LONG flying away from his dinner post with forensics stuck to his talons. we all can guess what he was up to.

today I actually saw 2 Cooper's hawks here at my feeders. Only very briefly though. Fingers crossed they will team up and nest nearby.

Notice how I even got his eye in the shot, even though he's flying away? Whooo! Hooo! Sometimes it's just fun to give yourself a "thumbs up"

Me thinks everyone's getting tired of HOP-A-LONG. Well, I'm not, LOLO!!
