Larry and I had a great birding day yesterday! One of the most wonderful moments was when this little youngster landed on the bridge deck and posed for photos. It even started to come closer to me until its Mom flew down and scolded it. It was so close that I actually had to zoom the lens out in order to fit it in the frame!

Possibly my favourite composition at Ringing Roger with the foreground rock creating an 'x'. I've stood here many times perfecting the composition. It felt quite precarious yesterday with the frozen rocks.
These are the best conditions I've had. Often, patchy doesn't work, creating too much contrast. But the hard frost decreased the contrast on the rocks.
I couldn't fit the foreground rock into one frame for the previous upload as I only had 24mm equivalent lens. This is good though as going wider reduces the impact of Loose Hill and the Great Ridge.

This church was built in the 1930's and fits in perfectly with the surrounding architecture of the Santa Barbara area.

When it's a good fit for you and a dog, I think the important thing to them is more just to be with you than anything else. So it seemed with these two walking back to shore in the shallows after an evening paddle.
We had come here for a sunset shoot - only to find the clouds intensified despite a forecast of some clearing. Another couple there for the same reason commented that the previous two or three nights, it had been spectacular. Sigh! At least it was nice just to be outside on a warm evening.

I was expecting a light loco, which I'd planned to frame between that fine bracket signal and the house. Fortunately it was travelling slowly, having been held over in Crewe Bank loop, so a quick composition adjustment was possible as the wagons appeared in view!

Macro Monday - Squared circle
Looking down on a poppy seed head. At first I wasn't keen on this theme but then had a few ideas. This was my first idea and the one I felt worked the best, I may work on some of the other ideas when I have more time. I rarely do a square crop. I wanted a shallow depth of field to blur out the background but wonder if I should have had more sharpness on the seed head. HMM
Apologies for getting behind with commenting, once again. We've been quite busy. Our grandson has been visiting, with his parents. We've stayed in the garden and been socially distancing...not easy for a two year old to understand. We've also had zoom chats and quizzes with family and friends, vet visits with Bruno so the time seems to be disappearing. I hope to catch up soon.
While there are desert wheatears as a species (Oenanthe deserti), the bird in the picture is „just an ordinary“ wheatear, many of which migrate through the Ustyurt Steppe. In their non-breeding plumage they fit in perfectly with the yellow ochre of the desert.
