on this early summermorning i was searching for dragonflies on the wheat but when the sun came through i took a few without boring insects ;-)

A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves with each step I made. The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air.

A few kilometres to the east of Weldborough is one of the most spectacular fern displays that you will see anywhere in Australia. For kilometres beside the road huge ferns are on either side of the road. They are interspersed with stands of blackwood, sassafras and myrtle.

One of the few sunny winter days and the first snow of the year in our region.

Whenever I see such old trees (here an apple tree) I want to capture them in the picture. As a result of intensive agricultural use, trees are rarely replanted. In addition, every year some trees fall victim to the winter storms, as well as a few days ago here in the area.

A few years ago in another photo club we had an idea to laminate a card containing the word 'Loved'. We would place them on any subject we thought would show something that was once loved or we thought we loved. It was a fun project and I went out and took so many shots, I was amazed at the amount I saw or fitted with the idea, with this new idea buzzing around in my grey box!

A few weeks back I took this shot of the Yellow-rumped Warbler enjoying the warm Autumn weather. Now not only are they gone but most of the leaves had fallen too.

Few remain of the American Goldfinches and other song birds as many of them have started their migration south. This American Goldfinch was stocking up on the seeds of the Button Flower.

A few photos from Stølaholmen.

We have cold and nice weather now, and got a little snow too. I had to shut down the water to the sheep as the pipes would freeze, and have to give them water from buckets. The roundbales are starting to freeze and one of my tractors need to have the battery charged every time I try to start it.

Still, this is winter , wonderful winter! Far better than rain and mud. It could be a tad milder though... I am getting an old man, an we like to be warm :-)

More photos in the first comment. And I will post even more from this place later.

A few weeks ago, I picked this final bloom from my garden and brought it into the house. It dried and kept its shape. How did it know it was going to be photographed for Macro Monday's Single Flower Challenge?

We had a few moments of sunshine this afternoon and Cleo followed me outdoors. The truth is that she followed the treats bag outdoors because I wanted to take some photos. In the garden we entertained the neighbours when I did all kinds of things to make Cleo look at me, preferably with a face that didn't look as if she wanted to kill everybody. I wasn't very successful as Cleo just sat there and looked grumpy. At least the neighbours had a great time. We should sell tickets for these events.

There are many Dragonflies in our area but few large species. This new one makes the 5th of the larger kind that i've seen.

A few minutes after sunset in Kokkini Hani beach, Heraklion, Crete

After a few months of clouds, Summer seems to have arrived, with sunny and warm days for Christmas (no trains of course) and today (surprisingly a pair of trains).

The cloud was supposed to invade from midday, but the sun held out in places until the evening. The train was just in time in places. Now that we have misplaced our morning trains, 925 is really the only one to get in the height of summer, and this was the first decent chase with some sun in almost two months.

Thanks to Mr Wallace for chauffeuring.

Over the next few days I will upload photos from Pirongia Forest Park. Come join me and discover all the interesting things!

The green slopes of Mt Pirongia can be found 25km south of Hamilton. With a range of easy to more challenging options, the Pirongia walks provide a rejuvenating experience amongst lush native forest and clear mountain streams.

The Mangakara Nature Walk

(We started off with this easy track, but will definitely go back to discover the other more challenging options!)

The Mangakara Nature Walk on Mt Pirongia is an enjoyable one hour circuit through native forest.

The easy track meanders through ancient forest past large rimu, kahikatea, tawa, pukatea and kohekohe trees and crosses over the Mangakara stream before looping back around.

Educational signs describe point of interest and the mountains history along the way with something new to discover at each station.

For a few months in late 2010/early 2011, I spent at least one morning per week along CSX's Indianapolis line east of the city. On a good day, I could get 3-4 trains. Code line poles and NYC-era signals were still active, but changes were coming. Q007 cruises west at MP 267, sixteen miles from downtown Indianapolis.

Few days ago, I uploaded another photo of this tower. This one was taken few days earlier. It is difficult to tell, that it used to support water slides. It was taken apart in 2011, refurbished, but never used again as Ontario Place (large activity entertainment venue for children) closed the same year. It quietly reopened just as a public park in 2017, but still not many people in the city know about it.

A few people asked about surfing in the heavy seas in my shot posted last night. This is a popular spot for surfers, but with the heavy seas and wind, no one was down there!

Goðafoss waterfall in Northern Iceland.

Arrived at Goðafoss in the late afternoon, a few clouds began to tear. Many visitors and quite a few photographers tried to capture this beautiful fall. It is certainly not the most spectacular or the most powerful of Iceland, but one of the most beautiful. Its harmony astonishes. Divided into two large arms and a small stream in the middle that crosses the basaltic rocks, it inspires peace by its undeniable elegance.

It was not possible to get too close to the fall, the huge clouds of water from the vapors settled on the filters. By their size of 150mm they were constantly envious of drops almost impossible to dry.

Hope to transport you in this atmosphere full of exitation with regard to such forces of nature and desire to make the best shot, thank you for all your comments and support.

We hired a new Quality Engineer, Jim.

When he arrived for his first day of work in his 1968 or 69 Karmann Ghia, almost the same color as my 1970 MG BGT, I knew we were going to hit it off.

……Back a few weeks when we had none stop rain many local rivers & brooks broke banks and flooded fields changing the scenery greatly! I’m sure I would pass this by ordinarily! A few weeks ago, I noted all of the cows were moved away from here. However, one evening on return from the city I spotted three of them but noticed they were younger and much bigger cows like the one on the picture. I wonder where have the previous ones were moved to.

A few months ago, the aurora decided to put on a great show. This is one of the more unique aurora images I have because of the low lying fog. It certainly shone through it though. It was a very memorable night and I may never see the aurora like this again through the fog.

Fewer kinks larger tolerance

Enhanced awareness

Panoramic view

More compassion

Fewer desires

Acceptance of limitations

Acquired Humility

More Unhurried

A completeness which unfolds

As the “you ” slows down

In the heat of conflict

You taste the awareness of the moment

And let go of the memory

An awareness of the mind speeding

everything passes away

Finally a need for order

Details which seemed mundane

While speeding

Unhurried sense of order…

In between flight of thoughts ,

Constant attack of attraction and aversion

Silence comes to you…

A few weeks ago we went for an hour and half hike in Caledon.

Every now and then i want to challenge myself to try another lens. so i took my 50mm 1.4 today and spent the day shooting with it.

The leaves were falling from the trees like rain from the sky. the road was awash in all colours and hues of leaves, the flitted and danced on the invisible breeze and glistened in the bright days sunlight. it was magical fall dance of colours.

A few metres out into the river at Chalkwell Beach lies a peculiar obelisk stranded in the water. From the shore, it looks like a mysterious ruin of an ancient civilisation, although it is in fact the ‘Crowstone’ installed in 1836/7. It replaced a smaller stone post that was set in place in 1755. The Crow Stone is a London stone which at the time marked the seaward limit of the River Thames under the City of London’s jurisdiction.

In 1990, Archaeological Survey of India discovered a sunken apsidal stepped well along with few sculptures inside it. This stepped well is located immediately to the north of the Shore Temple, its south edge abutting the northern wall of the Shore Temple. On the extreme south of this newly discovered shrine is placed a monolith statue of Varaha (Boar)in its zoomorphic form. This image is carved in round from a single boulder. The statue was found severely damaged, however, with efforts from ASI restorers, we now see this image in its near original glory. The other element of this stepped well is a slender cylindrical shrine constructed partly in rock and partly in stone. Beyond this cylindrical shrine, further northward, is a circular cistern or mini-well. This is cut downwards with a circular rim-like stone placed at the ground level.

ASI report mentions that this well provides potable water though situated near the ocean. Though Rabe accepts these sockets for the capstones of a well, however, he suggests that these might be constructed to hold the ‘pillar of victory’ taken by Narasimhavarman I from Vatapi (Badami) which probably was installed here.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rabe2 tries to explain political reason behind the systematic destruction of this Varaha image. Rabe suggests that this Varaha monolith was severely and systematically butchered when the Chalukya king Vikramaditya I invaded the Pallava kingdom. The rationale behind this destruction was the submissive and prostrated attitude of the Varaha (Boar) Varaha was the dynastic crest of the Chalukyas. This specific posture of Varaha might be taken as a reference to the subjugation of the Chalukyas by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I. And to take revenge, the Chalukyan army destroyed this Varaha image while marching forward into the Pallava kingdom.

Inscriptions On the Varaha (boar) monolith –

The Varaha sculpture is carved out of the mother rock like the three other animal sculptures in the Five Rathas nearby. It has four birudas (titles) of Rajasimha Pallava, some of his favorites, inscribed upon the base, in Sanskrit in the Pallava Grantha script. The birudas on the side are “Sri RajasimhaH” “Sri RanajayaH” and “Sri BharaH”. The biruda on the rear, under the varaha’s tail, is “Sri Citra KaarmukaH”. Between the legs of the boar on both the and under its tail, leaves of acquatic plants are sculpted. These are similar to those at the base of the Varaha and Gajalakshmi panels in the Varaha Mandapam. These indicate that the boar which represents Vishnu, is diving under water, not merely digging.

However, how to explain the engraved titles of Rajasimha, as the Chalukyan attacked the Pallava kingdom before the reign of Rajasimha. To explain it, Rabe tells that it was most possible that like other monoliths, this Varaha was also executed during the period of Narasimhavarman I(630–668 AD). Therefore, when the Chalukyas attacked the Pallavas, during the reign of Narasimhavarman I and Parameshvaravarman I, this monolith was present in the temple complex. As the Varaha was destroyed before the reign of Rajasimha (695 to 722 AD), it was Rajasimha who restored it and that’s how we find his titles engraved on it. (Above description source Internet). When a few flowers died in each of two bunches of flowers I was given, I merged them together and think the colours go well.

Day 17 post-op yesterday and I took a walk down the road, with Ray and 2 crutches for company (although I can now manage fine with 1 indoors) my target being to the local church and back. It was slow, the traffic a bit noisy to somebody unaccustomed to walking out but there is a handy seat near the church.

Once home, Ray checked the distance and found I had walked just over half a mile - well pleased!

Had a few hours yesterday wandering about Old Town, Geneva, and very nice it was too.....apart from the cold, I had no hat or gloves so that made shooting with the Pentax, in anything other than 'Auto' setting, impossible!!!

This is a shot of the Town Hall Ramp from the interior perspective, or the shaft if you like. If you study the shot then you can see it's not really symmetrical but the 'floors' are indeed just one continuous floor (or ramp) spiralling up around the shaft, (the ramp itself is probably 8 feet wide, though not visible from this shot, I may well post a shot or two in the future showing the ramp itself in more detail). To have witnessed the clatter of horses hooves as they passed by up this spiralling corridor must've been quite something back in the day.

I placed the iPhone in the middle of the floor for this one (first time I've done that....normally I lie down to take the shot so I can frame it, but this actually ended up working a treat!!!, Zeiss ExoLens (Wide-Angle), Shoulderpod S1, Hisy remote, tweaked in Snapseed on iPad Pro.

Located in the centre of the Old Town, the Town Hall is the political heart of the city and the seat of government for the Canton of Geneva. This building houses the famous Alabama Room in which the first Geneva Convention was adopted in 1864, from which was to emerge the International Red Cross. The large paved ramp surrounding the building is its most unique feature. Built between 1555 and 1578 by Peter Desfosses, the design of the ramp enabled direct access to the upper floors on horseback or on foot.

On of the few YN2 GP38-2 left on the CSX roster at the time, CSXT 2756, and a slug set blast out of Cantonment toward Goulding Yard on the Mobile, AL - Pensacola, FL road freight M706. This was one of my countless attempts to try and photograph W.R. Taylor Brick in Pensacola getting serviced and of course making the detour to nab this train caused me to miss it at the time. Thankfully W.R. Taylor still receives service today and I've managed to catch them working it since, so I can contend myself now with having gotten this fantastic set of power instead which will likely not happen again. I'm unsure if 2756 still wears YN2 today, but all the power around Pensacola has turned to beautiful Gevos in the meantime... Cantonment, FL
