Battery Dance, "Icarus"
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual outdoor Battery Dance Festival went virtual this year, like so many other performances.
So there was no live festival and most of the international dance companies that participated did so via video.
But NYC let the Festival film a handful of the performers live, albeit in the very early morning, as a way to discourage curious onlookers. These are some of the companies that participated; but this necessarily is a very small sampling.

Yesterday I hit up two different festivals. The Trenton AVenue Arts Fest with the Kennsington Kinetic Sculpture Derby (more to come) and the Rittenhouse Row Festival that had all the yummy food and drink you can handle. I'd wrapped up shooting for the day and was meeting a friend in Rittenhouse Square when I came upon this scene, right before the big leap. I kneeled down and quickly did the best I could catching this dude in action. (Thank you 5D!) Only it looks like I need to replace that lenshood I lost for my big daddy lens. So, for Sliders Sunday, I did my best to reduce the sunwashed look to pull out the details while keeping the lensflare to put a cool spin on a cool catch. Happy Slider's Sunday everyone!
If you'd like to check out my shots from the day of the young and gorgeous of Philly, please head over to Metromix Philadelphia. I'd love to hear what you think. Thanks guys! Happy Sliders Sunday!!!

The ceremonial gathering of the 2017 annual fête du vodoun (festival of vodou) took place on Ouidah's Djegbadji Plage (beach) at the Porte du Non Retour (Gate of No Return) after the cortege made its way from the Houxwe palace and the Temple des Pythons in Ouidah.
So I wasn't motivated enough to get up early and go to a balloon festival that was about five minutes down the road from our house. Instead, I decided to stay in bed and watch the F1 race, when I heard what sounded like a balloon burner -- that was really close.
I went outside on the deck and suddenly I heard "Good Morning!" from the pilot and there was a balloon around 100 feet in the air directly over our deck!
I used to live in Albuquerque, so having balloons fly over the house isn't a completely new experience, but it's certainly not something that happens everyday. Thank you Mother Nature for bringing the show to us this morning!

Towering mohicans are the height of fashion in Blackpool this weekend as Rebellion punk festival hit the town.
Thousands of punks sporting studded denim, Dr Martens and eye-watering facial piercings have descended on the resort to see some of punks greatest offerings.
More than 200 bands are on the line-up, including Sham 69, Misfits Cock Sparrer and King Prawn playing across six stages in the Winter Gardens.
Blackpool band The Karma Party opened the festival yesterday, playing as the first revellers entered The Arena at midday.
Lead singer Marc Walker said: “It was great, a real experience. We literally opened the festival for people.
“We told the crowd we’re from Blackpool and they really jumped on board.”
After playing for the first time in 16 years at the festival last year, The Buzzcocks returned again.
Marc added: “It’s a bit mental to be playing the festival after watching it for years. Some of the bands here are our idols and inspiration, it’s mental to be bumping into them.”
Organiser Dods Morrison said: “It’s always a good festival, it's going to be a really busy weekend.
“It’s one big happy family, it’s a once a year meeting for people from all over the world. The music’s great and the atmosphere’s great. I love it in Blackpool.”
so went to this small town called Jinhae, an hour's bus ride east of Busan. They have this famous annual cherry blossom festival, known as Jinhae Gunghangje Festival. Probably one of the best places I've visited in Korea so far. This photo was taken at Yeojwacheon Stream, one of the scenic spots in the town.
Shinto festival, Nagasaki. I love the outfit the geisha holding the parasol is wearing.
I wonder if any of the people in this photo were in Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, when the US dropped an atomic bomb on the city and, if so, how they fared.
This photo is from an album my spouse's uncle Elstner Hilton compiled in Japan between 1914 and 1918. While Uncle Elstner was pretty good about annotating the photos that required an explanation of some sort, he did not date the pictures. So all we know is they date to between January, 1914 and December, 1918.
The Yoga Festival is an event for yoga enthusiasts of all levels and traditions. Beginner classes give a gentle introduction to easy yoga that anyone can do. Strong dynamic yoga classes challenge the more experienced practitioners. In Akro Yoga, Partner Yoga and Yoga Massage you explore fun and supportive ways to do yoga with others. We have interesting workshops for both new and experienced practitioners, workshops that teach techniques to open up and relax.
