The Sun Fertilizer Drill was manufactured by H.V. McKay Pty. Ltd. at their agricultural machinery manufacturing plant in Sunshine Victoria. The date of manufacture is estimated to be somewhere between 1921 and 1930 because of the imprint H.V. McKay Pty. Ltd.

The hopper car for mineral fertilizers model 19-953-01 (#59232736, built by the Stakhanov Railway Car Building Works Стахановский вагоностроительный завод, code 62 at former Luhansk Region of Ukraine) have same 70t load but increased body volume to 89 m3 in comparison to the older model 19-923 with volume 80 m3 and less tare weight to the model 19-953.

In usual fashion, CSX motors lead loads of fertilizer as they head west for unloading.

At last the planets aligned.... some decent fall colors, the Urbana D41 local ran in daylight, and the cab was facing west. As a bonus, the train (usually 4 or 5 hoppers) picked up 22 empty potash hoppers from Anderson's. The ex-CR SD40-2 (and its preserved Leslie RS3LR air horn) disrupt a peaceful afternoon in my home town of Mahomet, Illinois, as the engine has to make an effort to climb out of the Sangamon River Valley along the former Peoria & Eastern main line, now the NS Mansfield Branch.

School of life

I don't remember exactly why but it was some sort of school holiday, and the regular school was off. So the boy accompanied his farmer father to the fields where the musturd plants needed his father's attention. In his eyes his father was a super hero, best of all the fathers in the world, who could do wonders with the plants. In his heart he dreamt to be one like him when he would grew up. So he followed his father though the fields, watched in rapt attention his every move, ever ready to help in any way possible . So in the time of harvesting he could say that they had grown the musturds together. And in the mean time they were having a great time together.

May be they are not rich or affluent in worldly wealth but some how I feel both of them are very very lucky and rich in many many ways !

To keep the earth from suffocating due to commercial fertilizers, use natural/organic fertilizers such as eggshells and coffee grounds. Eggshells, for example provide a natural nutrient, Calcium ( lime). Lime is important for plants such as

Clematis and Hydrangeas.

In 2013 was completed the construction and opening of a terminal at the Riga Port in Latvia for the handling and short-term storage of bulk fertilizers. The terminal has been designed and constructed as part of a joint project by Russian and Latvian companies.

The total investment in the project was more than 60 million Euros. The capacity of the first phase of the terminal is 2 million tons of bulk cargo per year.

Good morning everyone. Just a short video of about 40 seconds long I'd like to share that was taken from the front yard of "the pond across the street".

The pond is small...maybe 4-5 acres in size. Bordered by some open space, 3 roads and two homes. During the winter months anywhere from 100 - 200 Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) visit almost daily. They usually spend the entire day there before leaving at dusk. The whole process is repeated the next day, then the next until Spring. Never do they stay overnight at the pond...while a group of Mallard ducks do year around.

On New Year's Day when this video was taken an unusually large number of geese spent the day at the pond. Way more than normal. I estimate there were at least 500...maybe more. A lot more since the video shows only about 2/3 of the geese at the time. I couldn't video the entire pond, or all the geese, because of some trees.

Quite often groups of geese will wander onto the front lawn in search of acorns...hence the reason for the title. Cheap fertilizer.

Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you're having a truly nice first week of 2017.
