Yay, it's November! And y'know what that means - it's Tiki Time!! Mai-Kai here I come... :-)

The windy springs and the blazing summers, one after another, had enriched and mellowed that flat tableland; all the human effort that had gone into it was coming back in long, sweeping lines of fertility.

An obvious female figure carved along a seam in the marble slab.

The deep crevices in the rock are believed to lead to the spirit world, as there is an underground trickle of water that runs beneath the rock which produces sounds interpreted by Aboriginal people as those of the Spirits speaking to them.

An odd little figure, the only of its age or style in an area with many Fremont petros. To me this looks more like Barrier Canyon, maybe. The canyon has a number of vaguely more BCS looking figures, usually single figures, with heavily pecked areas near the genital area or (less frequently) the chest.

Fertility Statuette of a Woman.

Scholars once thought that nude female figurines of this type—with incomplete legs, jewelry, often an elaborate hairdo, and sometimes tattoos—served as symbolic concubines for men in the afterlife. We now know, however, that they functioned as fertility figurines for both men and women. Most were dedicated in shrines of Hathor and other goddesses by those hoping to have a child.

Mummies of Ancient Eggypt: Rediscovering 6 Lives

From July 14 to October 26, the CaixaForum Madrid cultural space hostsed an exhibition made up of a collection of objects on loan from the British Museum in London, which explores the idea of mummification and analyzes the testimony of six people who lived in the Ancient Egypt.

This sample contains six mummies of people who lived between 900 and 150 BC. C. in Egypt. Thus, through a non-invasive investigation carried out with the most modern technology, the discoveries that have been achieved by the hand of these specimens are exhibited.

Through scientific and historical evidence, it is possible to observe what life was like in these lands, the tools and techniques used for mummification, the medicinal recipes with which they were cured, the diet of those people, cosmetics and adornments, music, cultural exchanges and even the role of women and children in the Egypt of the pharaohs.

Mummification became a common practice in ancient Egypt, believing that the body had to be preserved in order to reach the afterlife. For them death was just the beginning and this represented the separation between the body and the soul.

The first mummies are dated between 4000 and 3000 BC. C. and it is thought that this practice could have come from accidentally unearthing some corpses, which had dried due to the heat of the desert. By keeping much of their physical appearance, they tried to manually mimic this preservation. In this way, they dried the deceased by extracting the viscera from the body and then dehydrated them with natron and embalmed them. `

During Easter I shot these series of the so-called Easter Fires! Easter Fires are a local tradition in the eastern part of The Netherlands. It is said that these fires are meant to encourage the sun and spring and to stimulate the fertility of the fields! However, nowadays they give occassion to a good party

I made these pictures before, during and after the burning. I was very curious how these b/w pictures would come out, but I'm satisfied with the result! If you'd like to see some pictures in colour of this fire, check out

Widespread exposure to toxic environmental chemicals threatens healthy human reproduction. Industrial chemicals are used and discarded in every aspect of daily life and are ubiquitous in food, water, air, and consumer products. Exposure to environmental chemicals and metals permeates all parts of life across the globe. Toxic chemicals enter the environment through food and energy production, industrial emissions and accidents, waste, transportation, and the making, use, and disposal of consumer and personal care products.

The risk of dying in pregnancy and childbirth for those aged 15-19 is twice that of those in their twenties. Girls under 15 are five times more likely to die. The decline in the adolescent fertility rate in all developing regions has been very slow.

Despite recent gains in access to contraceptive services, young women’s unmet need for modern family planning services is double that of older women. This unmet need is likely to grow as the world’s adolescents, of whom there are more than ever before, enter their reproductive age.

Obando fertility festival

May 17, 18, 19, 2006

Obando Fertility Festival is famous for their three patrons, St. Pascal Baylon, St. Claire and Our Lady of Salambao. Childless couples often dance during the procession to ask for a child. This tradition was immortalized by Dr. Jose Rizal in his novel "Noli Me Tangere".

Popularly, it serves to conceal dating sweethearts and lovers, thus, getting its humorous and popular name among locals as "Fertility Tree" - 2008 UPLB Heritage Tree Committee

There is a really funny story behind this picture. I hope my friends don't mind me sharing this story. It's too good not to. I'm going to try to explain it as best as I can. I might be missing some of the details.

So my close friends Shirley & Gat have been trying to conceive a baby for the past year or two, but without any luck. So they hear from our friend Julie that there is this fertility doll from Japan that she used (carried around with her, kept by the nightstand, etc) when she got pregnant with her daughter. And the fertility doll has been passed around in her family with great success. At this point Shirley is willing to try whatever it takes, so she asks Julie to send her the doll.

Well Julie happens to work at the same place as the resident jokester of our group, Sunny. So the two of them hatched this plan to play a joke on Shirley & Gat. Sunny created this doll using a plastic water bottle, paper and some scotch tape. And they mail this doll to Shirley & Gat passing it off as "the fertility doll".

Fast forward a few days. Shirley gets this package in the mail and tears it open expecting to see the special fertility doll. To her surprised it's this ridiculous looking doll. I'm pretty sure she thought it was a farse, but she didn't want to offend Julie by saying anything. And of course, she has no reason to believe it's a joke since Julie isn't the kind of person who would play a joke like this. Little did she know that Sunny was the mastermind behind the joke. So anyways, she is desperate so she carries this doll around and does her best to believe that this silly looking thing will help them conceive.

A day or two later, Sunny and Julie came clean and confess to the joke. This will forever go down as one of the best practical jokes anyone in our group of friends has ever played. And yes...Shirley & Gat have a great sense of humor. They got a huge kick out of the joke. :)
