This looks like a fairly uninteresting photo, until you learn that it was taken TODAY!!!! Yes, this was taken on 11-1-14.... FDX pulled one parked 727 to donate to the Chicago Fire Department, so here she is one very last time landing on runway 10C at ORD. I never thought I would see one of these again, and I was shocked to see a 727 on final.

Arriving from the opposite end of the state, FedEx A300 N673FD lands on Runway 27 in Memphis with FDX 623 from KNoxville.

From the first 767 freighter delivered in 2013 to the most recent one in Dec 2023, Fedex now operates 136 767Fs. Impressive.

They are seen throughout the entire route network.

Flew in this morning from MEM and departed tor EWR. Caught her return this afternoon - in decent daylight - to FLL.

A satisfying way to fill the frame! 8:48pm

Stored aircraft at the Southern California Logistics airport, where planes go to die. Most of these aircraft are slowly being cannibalized, their parts being removed to keep other aircraft flying around the world. Most of these planes will ultimately be scrapped but a few lucky ones are only here temporarily until another airline can be found to fly them again.

What I thought would be a "throwaway" image turned out to be one of my favorites...just goes to show you, always take that shot because you never know. Also, because pixels are really cheap. :-D FedEx MD10 arriving Chicago O'Hare on a very grey March 5, 2016. Off to Miami this week for 5 days of spotting...

"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.
