Nautisch Kwartier, Huizen.

Wonderful calm blue hour with nice reflections.

Laowa 15mm f/2 manual lens.

This is a very old structure that used to be part of a sand and gravel company over many decades. Fortunately the area is now Chamber's Bay Golf Course and Park. It's a great NW destination and superb location for all kinds of photography. It takes on a magical appearance early or late in the day.

I met another Tacoma area photographer there last night (Adam Pritchard) and was trying out a new (to me) 24-70 zoom that is a classic lens. This is a 3 shot, all raw, HDR merge in Lr with pretty natural results for an HDR.

Thank you for your kind visits my friends; you are much appreciated!

A summer view of Chamber's Creek in Kobayashi Park in University Place, WA. This is one of my favorite little places in the world. The nifty 50 lens and polarizer were just right for this late evening exposure. Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends! :)

We had a fun lenticular cloud event on Friday, Sept. 16th and admission was free. This is from the back side of the mountain up at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. Others such as Elke Peterson got great shots from the other side with many more lenticular's in the compositions. I had my amazing Hoya HD3 polarizer on there that brought out contrast in the cloud nicely. Lenticular clouds are shaped like flying saucers and very well may be. It is said that rain follows them and sure enough, it did rain the next day.

Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends. I appreciate each and every one of you! :)

This is from along Skate Creek near Ashford, WA. I found soft light and some rain from time to time that brought out the color nicely. Another one with the nifty fifty lens and polarizer. Thank you for your very kind visits my friends. You are much appreciated!

This is just a small, inner wall near Christine Falls in Mt. Rainier National Park. The main falls is through the channel to the left but the light was anything but soft, so this is what I had to work with at the time. The tourists seemed to be really enjoying the sun though! Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends. You are much appreciated! :)

One of my favorite trails took on a magical appearance on this cold morning. Part of the allure of getting out there early is that you never know what is going to happen. Morning light seems sweeter and a bit more delicate.

Thank you for your very kind visits and comments my friends! :)

Just off of the road up to Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park is Narada Falls. The Paradise River flows over these lovely falls and the afternoon sun almost always causes a nice rainbow to show up. It is a very short hike down to the falls. You'll need a tripod and small aperture to get the soft look on the falls, or a neutral density filter. A polarizing filter will help get the longer shutter speed too, and that is what I did here. Turning the polarizer just right saturates the colors in the rainbow as well... big time.

A July 1st view of Mount Rainier here looking large in all her glory. The deep blue color of the sky caught my attention as did the great greens this time of the year. The superb Hoya HD3 Polarizer deepened the saturation a little and there wasn't much editing to do at all. This particular polarizer goes from cool to warm a lot as you turn it and is worth the extra money for me. I think it was set just slightly to the warm side here since it was late in the day and the light was very blue. Oh, and it's a 3 shot HDR, all raw and natural in Lightroom.

Thank you for your kind visits my friends! :) <3

Halfway between golden and blue hours.

Nautisch Kwartier, Huizen.

Laowa 15mm f/2 manual lens.

This late afternoon light on the Nisqually really sucked me in. We're looking west here with the great back lighting, and an excellent sunset happened a bit later. This is right beside the road on Skate Creek Road just outside of Ashford, WA. Hopefully I got something good from those later shots too.

I had the 50mm lens on there all day just enjoying it's look and rendition for a change. It handled this pretty well stopped down all the way. Thank you for your kind visits my friends. You are much appreciated!

We were fortunate to have clear air for a view of the full moon in summertime which doesn't always happen.

A view of our gorgeous American Flag from the Visitor's Center at Paradise, Mount Rainier National Park. I love this view as it lines up with the mountain, and was amazed that photographers were not flocking to this spot. This one is pretty much SOOTC (straight out of the camera) and a quick raw conversion in Nikon's CNX2 software. I'm sure the amazing and bright Hoya HD3 polarizer was on there. Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends! :)

I caught these guys taking off as I was heading over to the flowers to shoot some dahlia's. I'm definitely not a wildlife or bird photographer but I had to chuckle at this rhythmic trio and the full flaps down (airplane speak) mode of the higher gull. I'm not sure how I got anything in focus at f4.... lol Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends! :)

So many options.

Shot on kodak tri x 400 pushed one stop.

Hc110 develop. Epson Scan.

The last light on the wooden houses of "Nautisch Kwartier", Huizen.

Almost perfectly flat water for some nice reflections.

Views like this are pretty common here in the NW (USA). It might look exotic to someone from the central region or large cities. I never do take this beauty for granted though and it always puts a smile on my face. What does look more dramatic to me though is views from Alaska like Philip Kuntz posts, or images like Elke Peterson and others share from Europe and the Far East. But in the end it is all beauty and those of us who can see and feel it are fortunate.

Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends - you are very much appreciated. Wishing everyone a great upcoming autumn season! :)

Here's a view of our NW Skate Creek in late June, near Ashford, WA. It's a photographer's destination in the fall but I found it lovely on this wet, spring day. I brought just one lens, the nifty fifty and decided to just play with it all day. Of course there's no zooming or refining the composition that way but the qualities of a prime lens can be very additive. It was a moist day with saturated colors but low in contrast without a little help in PP. A B&W polarizer was on there but my favorite PL is still the Hoya HD3 which I didn't have in the smaller size. Thank you for your very kind visits my friends! :)

F/8 and be there

IMHO this photo isn't as good as it should be, but I was to lazy to change lenses and it wasn't untill I got home that I saw how much I like the composition

#Funleader #LensCap 18mm F8.0 #Full Frame #LMount #JustShoot #NoExcuse #F8andBeThere

A subtle but lovely sunset near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park. We call this our sunset spot and it's a popular location at dusk. When heading down toward Reflection Lakes from Paradise it's the last major parking area on the right before Reflection Lakes. You never know what's going to happen here but it can be dramatic. There was too much contrast in this scene for me to capture so it's a 5 shot HDR in Lightroom to retain some detail in the highlights and shadows both.

Two stunning tattoos that I noticed and had to snap.

And Ride To Live as it says on the air intake! Just more fun here in the motorcycle parking lot at the national drags at Pacific Raceways here in the NW. This is a great place to be with camera in hand. Thank you for your kind visits my friends; you are much appreciated!

I could not resist stopping for this amazing couple. Scenes like this are pretty common in the NW when you get away from the city. A few decades back this could have been found right in the city itself, but sadly the farm land has given way to housing and business.

I used to ride years ago anyway and do understand what the fun and beauty is all about. (See my Evel Kneivel shot from when he came to town twice in the late '60's) This row of bikes really caught my eye as did the lovely blue colors on the air intake of this gorgeous Harley. Maybe someone will recognize that accessory and give us some info on it. Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends. You are much appreciated! :)

PS - I used a preset in OnOne Pro 10.5 for this one. That included a tiny bit of glow here and there. I keep looking for an edit somewhere to add that bit of glow and this is as close as I've come so far. Final editing, frame, etc. is done using a .tiff in CNX2 as usual. The final low res jpeg is 2048px the long way which seems to be facebook preferred. What do you do?

The amazing and talented Jenna has a new music CD out so we took a few new photos for her. You can visit her page here:

The plan for the photos was fairly simple, just pick a clean background in soft light, shoot at a wide aperture for the bokeh, and maintain focus on the eye. She sure does all the rest nicely....:) Thank you for you kind visits my friends!

Another photo for my COFFEE project. I was in town with some of the boys today when I saw the same thing. But the light was horrible so I rebuilt the scene at home. And ended up using 2 flashes:

1 is beside the camera and is the key and there is a very small amount of back-light flash just to throw a few highlights into the back beans as they were under exposed with the use of just 1 flash

Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80)

Aperture: f/8

Focal Length: 50 mm

ISO Speed: 400

Taken on expired Fortepan 50 film, with a Yashica minister-D.

1/250 sec

f/8

This is a simple shore line of Reflection Lake at Mount Rainier. The mountain is off to the right and out of sight. Okay, so what am I doing with just a picture of the shore line? Well it was nearly dark, everyone had left, and the mountain had disappeared, but more than anything I drank too much coffee during the day and was still playing around. (bet I am not the first one to do that...:)

Thank you for your warm and kind visits my friends - you make my day!

Literally more Harley's! These guys seem to look their best on one of the biggest stages: the motorcycle parking lot at Pacific Raceways when a national event is happening..... :)

A rugged and bold view of Mount Rainier bathed in evening light. This is one of the many views from Paradise, at Mt. Rainier National Park, in Washington State. There was still tons of snow up there in May so no hiking was involved and this was shot from right beside the road just down from the lodge. A 3 shot, all raw and natural, HDR helped preserve the highlights and shadows and the amazing Hoya HD3 polarizer did it's thing as well. I had not used the oft-maligned 24-120 lens for a while but it seems to work quite well stopped down a bit.

Can you spot all the red elements in this photo? I had to act quick since the truck was only in the right place for a few seconds. I saw the truck coming and switched to f8, zoned focused my Leica. I took the shot and the truck was gone. Sometimes all you need is luck 😀

Here's a great looking, custom Harley as seen at the national drag races we host in WA every August. Most photographers seem to want to be down by the starting line for some dragster action. I gravitate more to the pits and motorcycle parking lot area.

Interesting that the Portrait Camera Mode during processing gave it a nicer look than Std, Vivid, Landscape, etc. There wasn't much to editing this one actually since the sun coming through the trees lit it up just right. Sometimes we get lucky but it does pay to be ready. My jaw dropped when I saw this and my hope was that I didn't find a way to screw it up...:) Thank you for your kind visits my friends!
