Another one here,I've seen 8 this year,which is a lot for Belgrade.This is the first one with black rims though,and I got to say that they do look much better than standard silver items.

HMS Somerset is a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy. She is the eleventh ship of the class to join the fleet since 1989. She was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders Ltd on the River Clyde, in Scotland and was launched in June 1994

Union Pacific's Gas Turbine Electric Locomotives (GTEL) did not kill big steam power on the western railroad, diesels did that. Rather, the gas turbines filled the void for larger power, having the added advantage early on of burning what had been nearly an oil refinery wast product. The last order of 30 GTELs were delivered between 1958 and 1961, producing 8,500 ear deafening horsepower, said to rise to 10,000 hp in below zero temperatures, and billed at the time as the largest locomotives ever built.
This is one of the monsters, pulling a westbound manifest past the station at Ogallala, NE and kicking up dust as the Agent-Operator inspects the train. 14 flashbulbs used, date: April 19, 1969. The turbines would see their last revenue service the following year, victims of the higher cost of bunker C fuel and problems with pitting damage to the turbine blades.
Ogallala has its own history on the Overland Trail. A station stop for the Overland Stage, Pony Express and first transcontinental telegraph and later the Union Pacific. It was also one of the three major rail cattle loading towns (Dodge City and Abilene were the other 2) for the Texas cattle drives that were taking advantage of the sweet prairie grasses west of the Missouri.
