"In modern usage in Japan, "ameonna" (or the male equivalent "ameotoko") refers to an unlucky person that seems to be jinxed to have the rain follow them wherever they may go, thus gaining a reputation for ruining special events such as weddings or sporting events."

After two nights in Grundavik, close to the Fagradalsfjall volcano, we drove to Husafell via some very nice rough roads. As I've told you before in a photo series from last year, we prefer to drive on unpaved back roads. This has some great advantages: you are almost always alone in nature and you can stop wherever you want. This day we first took road 428 (Vigdísarvallavegur) in the Reykjanes peninsula and later the F550 to Husafell with very beautiful views. No difficult roads but a 4x4 is mandatory. We went to Husafell for a hiking trip in the Langjökull glacier. The next day we drove to the Langjökull Glacier Klaki Basecamp. The last part was a very nice exciting mountain ride. From this base camp we took a truck bus over the glacier to the entrance of the caves. The trip was spectacular, but the walk was a bit disappointing. Back in Husafell we made another tour via road 518 and 528.

I felt my gallery needed a bit of colour to break up all the monos I've been posting so here is one out of the Icelandic archives....
Heading south through the Kaldidalur toward Þingvellir on the F550 - you come across the occasional water of Sandkluftavatn over which loom the ashen wastes of Ármannsfell (764m).
The lake clearly holds more water than was present in this pic - probably during the Spring - but as the valley floor is solely ash and tephra, the water simply drains away.
The F550 itself rolls right through the frame and out of sight.

a picture i hold particularly dear. not so much because of the situation photographed, but because of the outcome. just recently i added this version of the same shot.

I came into work one day to discover this in front of it. You can see the normal sized car next to it to get an approximation of its size. To give you a better idea, chris is 6'5 and he couldn't see into the trunk. I wish I could have got a better photo but there really weren't any good angles. I got a total of 3 photos before the guy inside noticed what I was doing. He honked at me, quite rudely, because he understood what was going on. I gave him the finger and went inside only to find out by one of my coworkers that he had just been in there for lunch, and was, he said, a professional body builder. Apparently, his muscles were HUGE. I'd like to know exactly who this dude is so I could google him. I have a feeling he's overcompensating for something. He's trying extra hard to show how manly he is, so is he??? Sadly, we will never know. Either way, Chris estimated it must have cost him a liberal $50000 to make his car look like that. My coworker guessed 100 grand. Who knows?? Also, as he was leaving, he almost backed into Chris' car, which was directly behind him. In addition to being hilarious, that would have been a brand new car for the boyfriend.

The F550 rolls right through the frame - I took a photo from the other side of the hills at the left back in 2015 - pic in the comments below.

Almost five weeks of work and six Bricklink orders to get there... but we DID finally get there.
I'm really pleased with how she came out... but the body shape was a hell of a challenge to get right.
