Designed by Pininfarina in collaboration with Frank Stephenson (Director of Ferrari-Maserati Concept Design and Development), the body styling of the F430 was revised from its predecessor, the 360, to improve its aerodynamic efficiency. The 430 has the same drag coefficient to the earlier 360 but groundforce was significantly improved, both cars shared the same basic Alcoa Aluminium chassis, roofline, doors, and glass, but look significantly different, most noticeable differance being the larger air inlets in the nose of the 430.

The engine is an all new designed V8 with a standard output of 483 bhp propelling the car to 196 mph. The brakes have been developed in conjunction with manufacturers Brembo resulting in a new cast-iron alloy for the discs (molybdenum) which improves heat dissipation. Another option being Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide ceramic composite discs with an even higher resistance to brake fade. The 430 has the same drag coefficient to the earlier 360 but groundforce was significantly improved.

The F430 Spider is the convertible version, unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show,. The car was designed by Pininfarina the conversion from a closed top to an open-air convertible is a two-stage folding-action, the roof panel automatically folds away inside a space above the engine bay. Being slightly heavier than the Coupe the Spider is just 3mph slower

The F430 like the F360 has spawned numerous limited production race derived variants
