From the archives - this is the Cabrillo Lighthouse as viewed from Mendocino, CA. It has to be about 3 miles away. So I decided to use a long lens with a small aperture (f36) on a cropped sensor camera (650mm x 1.5 = 975mm) to capture both the lighthouse and adjacent rock formations. Long exposure (20 sec) helped to soften the ocean waves. At the time I thought that I was crazy to attempt something like this. ANY movement, including the shutter, would cause problems. However, I remembered a trick I used in Seattle, putting a ball cap in front of the lens and wait 2 seconds after the shutter opened before removing it and starting the exposure. Worked perfectly.

F36 also died, after M62 a few months ago, and despite the TAR's decision not to proceed with the killing as requested by the animal rights associations. But how much do we, animal rights activists, environmentalists, who believe in a world where there can be space for them, count?

Che stia per svanire il sogno della presenza degli orsi in nord Italia? Troppi morti in Trentino, pochi mesi fa M62, ora F36. Portati di forza dalla Slovenia, non hanno trovato una bella accoglienza.

Is the dream of the presence of bears in northern Italy about to fade away? Too many deaths in Trentino, a few months ago M62, now F36. Brought by force from Slovenia, they did not find a good welcome.

Had to do a strobe shot for Brad (Nerboo) today since he picked the group. Especially as it is a "critique" group.

Trying to combine this with a decent me & camera then was more difficult. Making a mirror shot interesting is difficult unless one is very pretty.

Result was passable - sort of like the contrast & shadows, but not much to really grab one's attention.

It was bright at Gibbon Falls in Yellowstone National Park. I had to use a neutral density filter along with f36 and ISO 50 to get the shutter speed to 1.6 sec. to blur the water.

thank you friends for all your support, comments, faves and views! <3 Will be away for a short while.

"See you downstairs" - said the water drop to her friend. :)

I had very favorable conditions for this shot, as I was able to stand on the smooth river bed, where the current would otherwise flow had the water volume been greater.

Weather conditions were more than favorable. They were fabulous. Sunshine and high temperatures while my singing cascade and I enjoyed the shadow. One can hardly ask for more :)

And I'm having a thing for long exposures right now...

This one made it to Explore :)

This photo is not what I had intended on taking a shot of. It was getting late, and the tide in this river was just changing... making for still reflections. Several other compositional features presented themselves this day (a starfish that was on the side of the bank, tall paperbark trees), but they just didn't make the shot or were not accessible. This was the only shot i was satisfied with, but the reflections were still not quite perfect.

I didn't think this shot would be as balanced, but for some reason, i think it goes ok. I think with reflection photos, something needs to break up the reflections between background and foreground, otherwise it can look really artificial. I think the stepping stones help with this a bit.

I'm fairly certain it was too dark for my scneider lens at f36 to end up getting a shot, but i did attempt a 12 minute exposure. Fingers crossed it worked.

just playing around with long exposures

thiswas taken on f36 for 15 seconds

Slight cheat as I left the motor drives off the F2 and F3 ( I don't have an F36 drive) and added the grip to the F6.

Whilst everthing else seems to get smaller the cameras get bigger.

The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days.

According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.

Explored :)

Peering through the early morning gloom, I managed to pull together this image of the remnants of the old jetty at Walberswick. The sun was already quite high in the sky and was rapidly burning through the evaporating mist, therefore prompting me to use a 3 stop hard edged ND grad to keep the exposure balanced. My lens was set at 55mm and one fifth of a second at f36, so a tripod was essential.

This is the first time this particular flower has been uploaded. I have been asked if this is a re-upload, let me make this abundantly clear - other individuals have been known to do so, you will never see me doing the same! Once a photo has been uploaded, it goes on file in my set and can be compared to any of my previous floral uploads.

This is the Astoria River in Jasper National Park, Alberta. I used a polarizing filter to eliminate some of the surface reflections, and stopped down to F36.0 which allowed a slow shutter speed of 8 seconds. I tried another shot with a faster shutter speed and found I liked this one better. The camera was tilted forward on the tripod, and the rear standard tilted back to provide improved depth of field.

Every fall for the past 16 years I have been heading out on a fall weekend trip with my friends from The Monochrome Guild. This is a collective of film based photographers based in Edmonton, Alberta that I started many years ago.

I took a similar image in 2010 and wanted to revisit Riverside State Park to see what I could get. In the afternoon there are some nice colorful reflections on the rapids of the Spokane River. It's an interesting exercise playing with different f-stops in Aperture Priority to get a comparison of different blur conditions. A polorizer was used to block glare and stop down the light. I liked this particular shot at f22 and 2 secs. I compared photos from f5.6 to f36.
