Almost 10 years ago since my last visit to magnificent Merapi Mountain in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This is taken from the closest view point at Bukit Klangon. Merapi is one of the world's most active volcanoes, last erupted on March 13th 2023, spewing out smoke and ash that blanketed villages near the crater. Thanks to Ady who accompanied me since 3 AM for reaching this site 😊
Thank you for visiting my stream. Kindly leave your comments.

(The lighting in the tunnel was mercury vapor lamps, so the green cast comes from shooting them with tungsten balanced film) As of 2019 the lighting was changed to daylight balanced LEDs. It doesn't photograph nearly as interesting.

Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image.
I love the 'magic' and sparkle that Christmas brings to a home in the darkest period of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, some glass, lights or candles and there it is...twinkle twinkle...
I always greatly enjoy the refractions too. CHIAROSCURO

Nikon 55mm f2.8 lens aperture closed down to f32. Shot handheld with a ringlight LED. Got some funky chromatic effects from the ringlight on the back lens- the colours are what it looked like. I was happy with the texture on the leaves. Backlit the aperture with my phone screen on white.

3min exposure at f32. The lightmeter measured the scene a 1 min and my reciprocity calculator said the exposure should be 4min. I didn't trust it and only made a 3 min exposure so it came out too dark.

The arctic starflower (Trientalis europaea), also known as the chickweed-wintergreen is a quite small flower and unlike the German name "Siebenstern" (meaning seven star) it can have either seven or like here, six petals.
This one had some nice-looking waterdrops on it after an earlier rain, but since this is a very old shot (from 2015) I was still using an undiffused ring flash which created unnecessarily harsh light.

In my quest for panoramic perfection I've been interested in Schneider lenses, after many emails I finally got hold of a demo Schneider PC-TS Super-Angulon 50mm F2.8 Len and went to my safe location in Coogee expecting things to be calm and free from intrusion, how wrong was I, not only did it rain but the surf was massive and several times I found myself scampering to the safety of the steps and only making it sometimes, lets just say a change of clothes was needed. Anyway, back to the important stuff, firstly I didn't use any filters or a pano head for this image, I used settings f32 at 15 second exposures for 5 frames iso 100. The lens mounts on the tripod, right on the nodal point, and is absolutely massive, dwarfing the camera and looks the business, but all that aside, the image quality and dynamic range are phenomenal, even with my Carl Zeiss I'd have to use filters to balance out the exposure. Have I found the Holy Grail of panoramic setups, I'm off to the snow this weekend and plan on spending lots of time testing, stay tuned for more results.
