Crazy days in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. Just a few brief trips to see my squirrel friends on campus. Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on Friday March 13th, 2020. Saw a few squirrels with eye problems - but they do look better - even the one who was worse (if it was the same one). I saw Lefty over by Law. That always makes me happy - and I could use it today. I am expecting to be on campus on and off during this Coronavirus or COVID-19 global pandemic.
Yet another busy day at work - just a few minutes to see my squirrel friends on two brief trips around campus. I did see Lefty - my three pawed squirrel. Had not seen her in a while - glad she is doing well. Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a mild late Winter's day - Friday March 6th, 2020. Saw a few squirrels with eye problems - and I hooked them up with another medicated pecan. I hope these are getting better.
Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a mild late Winter's day - Tuesday February 25th, 2020. I did notice two squirrels between Social Work and Martha Cook who seem to have Conjunctivitis or similar eye malady. I am giving one of them a medicated pecan that will hopefully give them a boost to knock out the parasites. Unfortunately, it will not cure their eye issues - but I will watch them. I was able to get a medicated pecan for the one who was worse off. Fingers crossed!
Very busy at work - just a few brief trips to see my squirrel friends on campus. Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on mild late Winter's days - Monday March 9th and Tuesday March 10th, 2020. Saw a few squirrels with eye problems - some look better, but one over at Law had her right eye shut. Hope they get better.

So much to unpack here. With COVID-19 essentially shutting down campuses all across America and the world, there are few normal days to be had. I have been going into the office a few times just to make sure that things are still standing. Most of my work is at home. But the one part of my life that is sadly missing at home are the squirrels. I normally use it as a social exercise - handing out peanuts to strangers so they can feed the squirrels. That part is gone in the world of social distancing. I keep at least enough room for the Holy Spirit to drive a car between me and anyone I am with. On my recent day in the office (Thursday March 19th, 2020), I walked around just a bit. On the sad side, I saw a squirrel on the Diag who was either sick, fallen, or had been attacked, struggling to drink water and eat. I did see one - who might have been a momma - living inside Michele Oka Doner's 2009 bronze casted statue "Angry Neptune, Salacia and Strider." She seems to have an infected eye - I hope it gets better. I wish the squirrels at my home were nearly this friendly. But in the grand scheme of things - there is so much more to wish for. Be safe everyone - we will get through this. Sending love and virtual hugs from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pictures from the University of Michigan on Thursday March 19th, 2020.

Busy day at work - just a few minutes to see my squirrel friends. I did see a squirrel over at Law Quad who had another case of a semi-swollen eye. I have that little one a medicated nut that might help. I also got one of my manage squirrels a dose when I am not sure he had one before. He is also at Law and very skittish. Taken in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan on a mild late Winter's day - Monday February 24th, 2020. First day back on campus after my vacation. Happy to see my squirrel friends. Vision is precious . Wear sun protection as you age. Age related macular degeneration is not curable, but you can slow its progress. My doctor says mine has not progressed since diagnosed 5 years ago--- and I follow his intruction to wear a brimmed hat and sun shades when outdoors, and take AREDS2 PRESERVISION vitamins (and the proper multivitamin). It works for me.
All the things I love to do require the abiliity to SEE. Protect your vision!
For the benefit of those who need a briefing on the term "macular degeneration", it is a little black/gray spot which comes in the center of your vision. It is a "dead" receptor in the back of your eyeball. That one dead receptor is joined by others, and the black spot enlarges.....and keeps doing so, until there is no vision from that eye. If that piques your interest, look it up. "Age related" comes with aged eye balls.
NOTE: UVEX is one brand of eye protection among the many brands which serve the purpose. I like amber shades which heighten green colored objects, and reduce glare. There are some amber lenses which are identified as "driving glasses" as the traffic lights display the proper color while wearing them. I have several pairs of glasses, all sorts of lens colors....I am always forgetting where I placed a pair, so many options make sense to me.

Do you know what PVD is? On Monday I was driving home from work and saw flashing lights in the corner of my left eye and I thought it was reflections in my side view mirror from the sun on the lake..but later that evening I saw them again in my bedroom..in the dark...hmmmm...not normal..so I googled it and found out it could be PVD ( www.rnib.org.uk/eyehealth/eyeconditions/eyeconditionsoz/P...) or a detached retina..So I went to the eye doctor and found out I had a tiny hole in my retina. Today I saw a doctor and had laser surgery to repair the tiny hole and a few older scars. Apparently PVD is a sign of aging and happens to most people though the hole or tear in the retina is not as common. Whoopie..another sign of getting old!
Oh yeah, so this image is because I read at the doc's office that peppers, especially orange ones,.are good for eye health. HAVE A PEPPER TODAY!
