Swedish postcard. Axel Eliassons Konstförlag, Stockholm, No. 350. Anders de Wahl in the stage play Äventyret aka Äfventyret by Valentin Le Barroyer, performed at the Dramaten theatre in Stockholm in 1915, under direction of Karl Hedberg. Photo Hofatelier Jaeger, 1915.

Anders de Wahl (1869-1956) was a very popular and prolific Swedish stage actor, who also had small but significant film career.

Anders de Wahl, whose name in the population register was always written as Andreas, was born 9 February 1869 in Stockholm. He was the son of music director Oscar de Wahl and actress and operetta singer Anna de Wahl, born Lundström. After employment at Wicanders cork factory offices, De Wahl was in 1889-91 student at the Royal Dramatic Theatre. In 1891-92 he was employed at August Lindberg’s theatre company, from 1892 to 1907 at Albert Ranft's theater company, and in 1907-19 at the Royal Dramatic Theatre. His repertory may have started with farces such as Charley’s Aunt (Djurgardsteatern, 1894), he soon became a major performer in August Strindberg’s plays, such as Mäster Olof (Vasateatern, 1897), Erik XIV (Svenskateatern, 1899), and Folkungasagan (Svenskateatern, 1900). From 1907 he was a regular actor at the Dramaten and this for many years, until 1951. At Dramaten he acted often with directors August Lindberg, Karl Hedberg, Tor Hedberg and Gustav Linden, and from the mid-1920s and well into the 1930s also with Olof Molander and, better known as film director, Alf Sjöberg. De Wahl also played as guest in Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki, and carried out tours on the Swedish provinces. The Cambridge Guide to Theatre mentions De Wahl was popular until the late 1920s, when the more natural style of Lars Hanson replaced his romantic, exuberant style. De Wahl excelled as personality actor, often performing troubled souls as Strindberg’s Erik XIV and his King Magnus. Though he opposed modernism in theatre, he did perform in plays by Pirandello such as Six Characters in in Search of an Author.

Anders de Wahl’s debut in film was in the Mauritz Stiller subversive tragicomedy Erotikon (1920) in which professor Leo Charpentier (De Wahl) and his wife Irene (Tora Teje) experiment with extramarital affairs. The film was based on a play by Hungarian writer Ferenc Herczeg and scripted by future film director Gustav Molander, Stiller and Arthur Nordén. Supporting actors were Karin Molander and Lars Hanson. In his second film Kvarnen (The Windmill, John W. Brunius 1921) De Wahl played a very different character as a miller who is lured and blinded by a seductive ‘tattare’ woman working at his farm. In 1925 De Wahl played in two more silent films, in Karin Swanström’s Flygande holländaren (The Flying Dutchman), scripted by Hjalmar Bergman and with German actor Werner Fuetterer co-acting, and the title role in Kalle Utter, again directed by Swanström and scripted by Bergman, and based on a novella by Swedish author August Blanche. His last film part was the lead in Edvin Adolphson’s drama Vad veta väl männen? (What Do Men Know Well?, 1933), the Swedish version of the German film Was wissen den Männer? (Gerhard Lamprecht, 1933).

For posterity, Anders de Wahl is inextricably linked with the title role in Hjalmar Bergman's comedy Markurells from Wadköbing (1930). Also for a long time Anders de Wahl read Alfred Tennyson’s poem Ring Out, Wild Bells on the radio at midnight on New Years Eve. Anders de Wahl died March 9, 1956 in Stockholm. He was unmarried and is buried in the Adolf Fredrik cemetery in Stockholm.

Frida Kahlo de Rivera (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈfɾiða ˈkalo]; born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón; 6 July 1907 – 13 July 1954) was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. In addition to belonging to the post-revolutionary Mexicayotl movement, which sought to define a Mexican identity, Kahlo has been described as a surrealist or magical realist.

Born to a German father and a mestiza mother, Kahlo spent most of her childhood and adult life at her family home in Coyoacán, La Casa Azul, now known and publicly accessible as the Frida Kahlo Museum. She was disabled by polio as a child. Until a traffic accident at age eighteen caused lifelong pain and medical problems, she had been a promising student headed for medical school. During her recovery, she returned to her childhood hobby of art with the idea of becoming an artist.

Kahlo's interests in politics and art led to the next stage of her life. In 1927, she joined the Mexican Communist Party, through which she met celebrated muralist Diego Rivera whom she married in 1928. The relationship was volatile and included a year-long divorce; both had extramarital affairs. Kahlo spent the late 1920s and early 1930s traveling in Mexico and the United States with Rivera. During this time, she developed her own style as an artist, drew her main inspiration from Mexican folk culture, and painted mostly small self-portraits which mixed elements from pre-Columbian and Catholic mythology. Her paintings raised the interest of Surrealist artist André Breton, who arranged for Kahlo's first solo exhibition at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York in 1938. The exhibition was a success and was followed by another in Paris in 1939. While the French exhibition was less successful, the Louvre purchased a painting from Kahlo, The Frame, making her the first Mexican artist to be featured in their collection. Throughout the 1940s, Kahlo participated in exhibitions in Mexico and the United States. She taught at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" and became a founding member of the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana. Kahlo's always fragile health began to decline in the same decade. She had her first solo exhibition in Mexico in 1953, shortly before her death in 1954 at the age of 47.

Kahlo was mainly known as Rivera's wife until the late 1970s, when her work was rediscovered by art historians and political activists. By the early 1990s, she had become not only a recognized figure in art history, but also regarded as an icon for Chicanos, the Feminism movement, and the LGBTQ movement. Kahlo's work has been celebrated internationally as emblematic of Mexican national and Indigenous traditions, and by feminists for what is seen as its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.

Brigham Young University (often referred to as BYU or, colloquially, The Y) is a private university located in Provo, Utah, United States. It is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and, excluding online students, is the largest religious university and one of the largest private universities in the U.S., with 34,000 on-campus students.

Approximately 98% of the university's 34,000 students are members of the LDS Church, and one-third of its American students come from within the state of Utah. BYU students are required to follow an honor code, which mandates behavior in line with LDS teachings such as academic honesty, adherence to dress and grooming standards, and abstinence from extramarital sex and from the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Many students (78% of men, 10% of women) take a two-year hiatus from their studies at some point to serve as Mormon missionaries. A BYU education is also less expensive than at similar private universities, since "a significant portion" of the cost of operating the university is subsidized by the church's tithing funds.

BYU offers programs in liberal arts, engineering, agriculture, management, and law. The university is broadly organized into 11 colleges or schools at its main Provo campus, with certain colleges and divisions defining their own admission standards. The university also administers two satellite campuses, one in Jerusalem and one in Salt Lake City, while its parent organization, the Church Educational System, sponsors sister schools in Hawaii and Idaho. The university's primary focus is on undergraduate education, but it also has 68 master's and 25 doctoral degree programs.

BYU's athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively known as the BYU Cougars. Their American football team is an NCAA Division I Independent, while their other sports teams compete in either the West Coast Conference or Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. BYU's sports teams have won a total of fourteen national championships.

Calvin Clifford (C. C.) "Buddy Boy" Baxter (Jack Lemmon) is a lonely office drudge at a national insurance corporation (Consolidated Life of New York - 31,259 employees) in a high-rise building (Desk #861, Section W, Ordinary Policy Department - Premium Accounting Division on the 19th floor) in New York City. In order to climb the corporate ladder, Buddy Boy allows four company managers (Ray Walston, David Lewis, Willard Waterman, and David White) to take turns borrowing his Upper West Side apartment (51 W. 67th St., Apt. 2A) for their various extramarital liaisons, which are so noisy that his neighbors assume that he is bringing home different women every night.

The four write glowing reports about Buddy Boy, who hopes for a promotion from the personnel director, Jeff Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray). Sheldrake calls Buddy Boy to his office but says that he has found out why they were so enthusiastic. He gives Buddy Boy the promotion in return for exclusive privileges to borrow the apartment. He insists on using it that same night and, as compensation for such short notice, gives Baxter two company-sponsored tickets to the hit Broadway musical The Music Man.

After work, Buddy Boy catches Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), an elevator operator on whom he has had his eye. They agree to meet at the theater after she has a drink with a former fling. The man whom she meets is Sheldrake, who convinces her that he is about to divorce his wife for her. They go to Buddy Boy's apartment as Buddy Boy waits forlornly outside the theater.

Calvin Clifford (C. C.) "Buddy Boy" Baxter (Jack Lemmon) and Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), in a still from the film's final scene: "Shut up and deal."

Several weeks later, at the company's raucous Christmas party, Sheldrake's secretary Miss Olsen (Edie Adams), drunkenly reveals to Fran that Fran is just the latest in a string of female employees whom Sheldrake has seduced into affairs with the promise of divorcing his wife with Miss Olsen herself being one of them. At Buddy Boy's apartment, Fran confronts Sheldrake, upset with herself for believing his lies. Sheldrake maintains that he genuinely loves her but then leaves to return to his suburban family as usual.

Meanwhile, Buddy Boy accidentally finds out about Sheldrake and Fran. Disappointed, he picks up a woman (Joyce Jameson) at a local bar. When they arrive at his apartment, he is shocked to find Fran in his bed, fully clothed and unconscious from an intentional overdose of his sleeping pills. He enlists the help of his neighbor, Dr. Dreyfuss (Jack Kruschen), to revive Fran without notifying the authorities and sends his bar pickup home. To protect his job, he lets Dreyfuss believe that he and Fran are lovers who had fought, which he took so lightly that he was meeting another woman while she was attempting suicide. Fran spends several days recuperating at his apartment, while Buddy Boy tries entertaining and distracting her from any further suicidal thoughts, talking her into playing numerous hands of gin rummy.

Since she has been missing, Fran's brother-in-law comes to the office looking for her. She has not been there and neither has Buddy Boy. The previous day, one of the executives had seen Fran in the bedroom when he came to the apartment hoping to borrow it and mentioned it to the other executives. Resenting Buddy Boy for denying them access to his apartment, the executives direct the man there. Buddy Boy again takes responsibility for Fran's actions, and the man punches him twice in the face.

Sheldrake rewards Buddy Boy with a further promotion and fires Miss Olsen for telling Fran his history of womanizing. However, Miss Olsen retaliates by telling his wife, who promptly leaves him. Sheldrake moves into a room at his athletic club but now figures that he can string Fran along while he enjoys his newfound bachelorhood. When he requests access to Buddy Boy's apartment on New Year's Eve, Buddy Boy refuses and quits the firm. Sheldrake tells Fran, who realizes Baxter is the man who truly loves her, and she runs to his apartment. She arrives there alone and insists on resuming their gin rummy game. When he declares his love for her, her reply is the now-famous final line of the film: "Shut up and deal".

Henry VIII’s copy of Miles Coverdale’s translation of the books of Solomon with his annotations. British Library, C.25.b.4(1), f. 4v. Printed by Edward Whitchurch in c.1545 and once kept in the Upper Library at Westminster Palace.

In February 1542, Henry VIII’s fifth wife, Katherine Howard, was executed in the Tower of London. Details of her pre-marital relationship with Francis Dereham and extramarital relationship with Thomas Culpepper, gentleman of the Privy Chamber, had eventually come to light, destroying Henry VIII’s affections for her. Cast as an immoral and adulterous queen, she was deprived of her position and condemned to death. Her remains were laid to rest in the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula where Henry’s second wife, Anne Boleyn, Katherine’s own cousin and fellow beheaded queen, was also buried.

By July 1543 Henry was married again, this time to the pious twice-married Katherine Parr. The inscriptions made by Henry in his copy of the translated books of Solomon dates to the time of his final marriage. Here the text distinguishes between the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’ woman. On the bottom of the page in the margin, Henry has written ‘for wyfves’, drawing attention to the passage emphasising need for a husband and wife to not be ‘straungers’. ‘…be glad wyth the wyfe of thy youth’, the text commands which may seem an odd thing for Henry to mark out given he was certainly not content with the majority of his earlier marriages. But he believed his union with Parr was only his second legitimate match and clearly perceives it is a happy union that will last.

At the top of the page, Henry has bracketed several lines and written ‘bene’ – ‘good’ – in the margin. The lines refer to the immoral woman who has the ‘lyppes of a harlot’ but is ultimately as ‘bytter as wormewode, & as sharpe as a two edged sweard’. This woman ’regardeth not the path of lyfe’, but is concerned purely with her own pleasure and deceitful ways. The text urges men to ‘kepe thy waye farre from her, and come not nye the dores of hyr house’. Was Henry thinking here of his former, controversial wife? The text provides an intriguing insight into Henry’s own morality, tainted, as usual, with a deep sense of hypocrisy and self-righteousness.

Now let me show you how I stripped 4 laptops and 2 desktops of the info my 20yr recovering alcoholic - Wh0re M0nger had collected.

The photo you see here is my Father, Don Galloway.

(This photo and story was originally posted to Facebook on March 10, 2014, one day prior to the first anniversary of the passing of my mother.

This is being re-posted here for ease of future access.

At the age of 19 my mom called me to her home, which was once my childhood home in Baltimore City, and informed me her and my dad were going to divorce.

In that same conversation she also broke the news that my dad wasn't my father and that I had been conceived as a result of an extramarital affair she had back in 1958 with a man by the name of Don Galloway.

The only other piece of information she provided me, or likely that I allowed her to provide me, was that he was a balding man. To this day I'm not certain why she felt compelled to provide me that little snippet of characteristic data, and I never asked.

In fact, we never again in our lives discussed Don Galloway with each other. I never asked questions, she never offered information. As we were estranged for most of my adult life, there really weren't many opportunities to discuss what was probably a tough subject for both of us.

Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of my mom's passing. This is something I had no intention of mentioning on Facebook. All of you provided me great support last year when I posted that piece of personal information. It felt good to read your condolences and words of support and encouragement. Many of you donated to BARCS and didn't receive a note of thanks from me for doing so. It wasn't because I was lazy, it was because it was tough for me to revisit that day in any way, including mentioning it here on the one-year anniversary.

Doug spilt the beans.

As I was talking with my stepdad Doug this past Saturday we were sharing stories about my mom. I made mention of my dad--the one I had grown up with. Before I could finish my sentence, Doug interrupted for clarification and asked, "Do you mean Galloway?" I told him no, but asked him what he knew about Mr. Galloway. He told me he knew that I was a product of he and my mother.

In all these years I was never curious enough to find out who Don Galloway was. Mostly because I didn't want my existence to possibly ruin the life he had long led without me. I didn't want to be a person who destroyed a marriage and broke up a family because of a sinful dalliance of many years past. I didn't need Don Galloway's support and certainly would never have asked for it had it been needed. The only reason I would ever seek him out would be out of curiosity. And if I never found him, I would shed not a single tear.

Not being curious about Don Galloway was something which annoyed the living daylights out of Nikki. She wanted to know, but more importantly she wanted me to know. She would periodically ask if I would be interested in trying to find out who, what and where Don Galloway was. I would always change the subject and talk about rocks or ask how much salt we had left in the kitchen cabinet, or something else far more important to me at that time.

Then came this past Saturday.

I would likely have never asked Doug about Don Galloway. He's still deeply in love with my mom and still finds it difficult to live without her. I can't imagine how tough it must be to lose someone who's been your soulmate for so many years; 30+ in the case of Doug and my mom.

Doug told me what he knew about Don Galloway. He told me he had actually met Don on numerous occasions before he met my mom. Don used to visit the paint store where Doug worked back in the 70's. He was a regular customer. Doug recalled he seemed somewhat cocky.

In another odd coincidence, Doug worked with Don Galloway's wife, Barbara, at Giant Food; the supermarket Doug retired from after having worked there for 30 years. Doug recalls that Barbara had children and was divorced from Don at the time. He also recalls she didn't have much good to say about Don Galloway.

Our Saturday night conversation about Don Galloway was very brief, probably lasting less than 5 minutes.

There was one single piece of information Doug provided which when shared with Nikki allowed her to flush-out a dizzying amount of information about Don Galloway--where he lived, where he fought in World War II along with his 3 brothers who were notable athletes and known during the war as the "Four Fighting Galloways", his children, their children, where he's buried, his gravesite number at Arlington National Cemetery, and on and on and on. Nikki stayed up most of last night relaying information to me as I lay in bed in a hotel in Pittsburgh.

That one single piece of information Doug provided was that my mom worked as a switchboard operator at a car dealership here in Baltimore County called "Towson Ford", where Don Galloway also worked. In fact, Don went on to spend about 30 years at Towson Ford, ultimately becoming Sales Manager, from the 50's and into the '80's before retiring.

A simple Google search using "Donald Galloway" and "Towson Ford" turned up his obituary from August of 2002. Here is that obituary:

articles.baltimoresun.com/2002-08-03/news/0208030062_1_ga...

From there Nikki used Ancestry.com to find the entire family tree of Don Galloway. We're in process right now of making contact with my half-brother and half-sister. It would be interesting to meet one or both of them to help paint a clearer picture of Don Galloway.

A picture I never dreamed I'd see.

That story I wanted to tell you has ended. Thank you for sticking around.

Continue doing that RIP thing, Mom.

she is seen here on a "extramarital" date with Bob Hope during a scene from her 1960 hit film, The Facts of Life. TV Shot and colorization by Walker Dukes. Inspired by gaywizard123 and also, she was in this movie on tv today on TCM.

I didn't know that the Community Service Officer that accosted my wife at the SuperStore that night was having an extramarital affair with the Sergeant in Charge there that night.

I had no idea that she was a practicing Wiccan who considered herself to be a witch.

And she practiced a 'dark brand' of wicca.

It would be days before I heard about any of that.

I didn't know that the Sergeant in Charge at the scene of my wife's arrest... the one having the affair with the CSO... had just lost his wife to cancer only a few days before.

She also worked for the police department.

She was a Community Service Officer too.

There was no way that I could have known that night that the people who arrested my wife for 'child endangerment' and tried to have our child taken away from us were in such pain and unethical turmoil in their own personal lives.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of that came into play there that night in that parking lot where my family was busted up for little or no reason.

Maybe my wife smarted off to the CSO... maybe things didn't go down exactly the way that she said they did... maybe the Sergeant in Charge hadda be the hero for his pissed off CSO mistress.

I didn't know about all of those things that night, but I knew 'something' was wrong with how the whole situation played itself out.

What happened right in front of me was so wrong.

And it was done to my family by people who wore badges and carried guns and were given the authority to use lethal force by the state.

The whole episode had such a 'third world' feel to it.

It was like, without knowing it, my family just walked into a 'domestic' between a couple of 'cops.'

I had no idea then that the officer who'd actually put the cuffs on my wife and arrested her was healthy enough to throw the cuffs on criminals on the street... but he claimed a disability so severe that he had to work a desk job in Chicago at the same time.

It always blew my mind when I thought about it later...

My wife was arrested for 'child endangerment' when she took my children up to the SuperStore to do a good deed by two 'cops' having an extramarital affair with each other, one who was a practicing 'witch' and one who looked like he was guilty of fraudulently claiming disability... in a town where every kid went to bed after drinkin' a glass of poisoned water because that's what the mayor ordered.

Oh and my other two young daughters were abandoned at the scene by the cops.

How messed up is that?

It was like peeling the layers of an onion in that town...

beneath every layer were these sordid secrets that only added to the irony of what happened to my family that night.

These people didn't care about children... they poisoned them.

The 'juvenile officer' in that town had molested young boys and they had to settle the lawsuit that came of it for some big dough.

And he was 'made' the juvenile officer after his penchant for young boys became known!

'What a dirty place my family'd stumbled into' I thought.

My biggest fear the night that the whole thing happened was that the video surveillance tapes from the SuperStore that would show how my family had been abused by the cops would just 'disappear.'

I noticed that night that there were cameras everywhere... the cops should have noticed them too since they had blue flashing lights on top of each one.

But the cops just didn't care.

I don't know if they were just dumb or if they'd just never had anyone go up against 'em like I was about to...

But they just didn't seem to care that the whole incident was caught on tape from so many different angles.

The Community Service Officer... who's not really a police officer... commited another felony that night right in front of those video cameras when she pulled my brother over and she impersonated a police officer and asked him for his identification.

Identification that they knew that they needed to start plugging up the holes in their story.

Man... there were a lot of holes in their 'story' too.

When they arrested my wife and threw her in the back of that police car, the police just abandoned my other two daughters, seven and eight years old, to luck in that parking lot.

That was pretty much the most 'danger' any child would find themselves in that night.

Those poor kids.

They were just left alone and terrified there by the cops.

During the confrontation, as they watched their stepmother being handcuffed they started to cry and they backed away from the scene unnoticed and they hid in the Christmas trees that were for sale in front of the store.

I'd see that on the video months later when my wife's attorney showed it to us.

I was so pissed off.

They just abandoned my little girls there.

Completely left them to their own luck.

That video I saw would also show that the Chief of Police would actually lie to the media about how long my wife was away from the car before her trial.

The day after the arrest I went to the SuperStore myself to talk with the manager and make sure that the video evidence was preserved.

I ran into the Sergeant there.

The one who'd been in charge when my wife was arrested the night before.

He was looking to talk with the manager about the video evidence too... only I suspected we had different objectives in mind.

The cop threatened me with arrest just for being there... he said I was 'interfering with a police investigation.'

The reality I feared was that I was 'interfering with a police coverup.'

I told the officer that I wanted to see the manager about making sure the video was preserved... I didn't expect to go anywhere with it... and besides threatening me with arrest he said 'this is my town' and 'I'm the law around here... this is how we do tihngs' he said.

When I didn't back down and leave he actually called for another car on the radio.

I walked out before that car came, but I think these guys got a little inkling about how pissed off I was about the whole thing and they kinda knew that I wasn't gonna back down.

Still, I'd try to sort it out with the Mayor the next day.

'Maybe he'll be a reasonable guy' I thought.

That's all I was looking for here... a little reason to pierce the darkness of that insanity that enveloped my family there the night before.

I'd done some stupid stuff too... the morning after the arrest I went to my office and made up some magnetic signs and put them on every side of my truck and I drove slowly through the town.

Signs that told anyone who'd read them what the police had done to my children in the SuperStore parking lot the night before.

It wasn't too long before I had a 'police escort' with the cops trying to block the public from seeing what the signs stuck to each side of my truck said.

Maybe that was a little crazy.

But look what they did to my family.

I knew the media'd eat the story up... they always loved irony... and I could see the headlines in my mind before the whole thing was over... 'Cops Arrest Mom Out to Do Good Deed, Take Away Kid' or 'Cops Arrest Mom for Child Endangerment Then Abandon Other Children at Crime Scene.'

I'd worked with the media before... when I ran a big political campaign when I was a college student.

And I still had plenty of names in my 'rolodex.'

I just didn't wanna go that route until the Mayor and I could have a proper talk.

I wanted to give the 'executive' a chance to make right the mistakes of his 'employees.'

I told myself that if he wasn't reasonable that only then I'd go to the media.

The story was a powderkeg and I knew it.

Unleashing that bomb would have consequences.

I just had no idea how great those consequences would be.

On the day my wife's trial was supposed to begin, 97 days after her arrest, the State's Attorney dropped the charges against her.

She should probably never have been charged in the first place.

And they should have dropped the charges a long time before.

They knew they had no case.

They knew that they couldn't convince a jury that she'd done anything wrong.

But they made us wait until that day...

and it had cost us thousands of dollars in legal fees.

I was furious.

The Chicago SunTimes Newspaper ran the story the next day... it was front page news... and second page and third page.

The public was just as furious as we were.

Jody Weis, who'd just been named Superintendent of Police in Chicago that day by Mayor Daley didn't like the fact that his story got pushed to page four because of the whole thing.

In an interview Weis did it was noted that nobody or no story had gotten the first, second and third pages of that newspaper since the hostages had been released from Iran.

I promised them in that parking lot that night that I was gonna make a big deal out of what they did to my family.

They told me to go ahead.

I kept my word...

that was the biggest Chicago newspaper story in what... almost thirty years?

I was really enjoying busting these guys balls.

But it wasn't over yet.

It was gonna get bigger.

Looking back I could see that it'd only just begun.

FRIDA ,Mexico's most famous woman artist:

Frida Kahlo is one of Mexico's most famous artists and also something of a feminist icon, celebrated for her passionate indomitability in the face of life's trials. She's best known for her daring self-portraits depicting the suffering she experienced in her personal life. As a child Kahlo had polio; at the age of 18 she broke her right leg and pelvis in a horrific bus accident, leading to a lifetime of chronic pain. Partially immobile after the accident, Kahlo began painting in the late 1920s. She married famed muralist Diego Rivera in 1929 and together they travelled to the United States, staying in Detroit and New York City in the early 1930s. In the late 1930s Kahlo had exhibitions of her paintings in New York City and Paris and associated with some of the most famous painters in the world. Kahlo and Rivera were both known for their extramarital affairs (Kahlo supposedly was a lover of Leon Trotsky) and in 1940 they divorced for a short time before remarrying. During the '40s Kahlo gained international recognition for her colorful and sometimes gruesome paintings (as well as for her bold public persona), but she continued to have health problems. She died in 1954 just after her 47th birthday.

Kahlo was portrayed by actress Salma Hayek in the 2002 film Frida. She was also portrayed by Ofelia Medina in the 1984 film Frida, Naturaleza Viva.

Ashley Madison - Life is Short. Have an Affair. Leader in married dating and extramarital affairs. www.ashleymadison.com

The attractions Roopa experienced and the fantasies she entertained as a teen shaped a male imagery that ensconced her subconscious. Insensibly, confident carriage came to be associated with the image of maleness in her mind-set. Her acute consciousness of masculinity only increased her vulnerability to it, making her womanliness crave for the maleness for its gratification. However, as her father was constrained to help her in becoming a doctor, she opts to marry, hoping that Sathyam might serve her cause though the persona she envisioned as masculine, she found lacking in him. But as he fails to go with her idea, she becomes apathetic towards him, and insensibly sinks into her friend Sandhya’s embrace, for lesbian solace.

In time, she comes in contact with Tara the suave call girl who unsuccessfully tries to rope her into her calling to achieve which she introduces Ravi the seducer. However, when Roopa goes to attend Sandhya’s wedding, she loses her heart to Raja Rao the groom even as Prasad, her husband’s lecherous friend falls for her. The scheming Prasad induces Sathaym to go the corrupt way besides weaning him away from Roopa with the aid of whores to make his path clear to her amour and that throws her into a dilemma. But as fate puts Raja Rao into Roopa’s arms, how the tale ends is best described by one Mr. Spencer Critchley, thus: “It’s a refreshing surprise to discover that the story will not trace a fall into disaster for Roopa, given that many writers might have habitually followed that course with a wife who strays into extramarital affairs.”

Unfolding the compelling saga of Roopa’s love and loss, governed by the vicissitudes of life, this 'novel' nuances man-woman chemistry on one hand, and portrays woman-woman empathy on the other.

Who said the novel is dead; 'Benign Flame' raises the bar.

Barrington Jedidiah Walker, 74, had loved Morris since they were boys in Antigua but he married Carmel, joined the line of West Indians emigrating to Britain, fathered two girls, invested in education and property and led a double life.

Deceiving everyone, trying to live up to the immigrant ideal, Barry became trapped by his failure to tell the truth.

Carmel is a ball-breaking, bewigged harridan surrounded by Pentecostal “cronies”, keeping him on a short leash and slapping him when he is back late from drinking with the old boys.

She pours her energy into goat stews, embraces man-made fibres, decorates their Stoke Newington home with swirling orange wallpapers and encases the white leather sofa in plastic.

Their first-born, Donna, springs from the same spiky mould but younger Maxine is a real daddy’s girl. In Barry’s narrative, Carmel was useless when the girls were born and relied on him to hold the family together, which he did with the energy of an autodidact while sporting sharp suits and hand-made shoes.

Yet, as Evaristo’s story unfolds, it becomes clear not only that Barry’s story is unreliable but that he is not the only one hiding behind a dishonest front.

Though Barry revels in his cultural grasp of a little bit of everything, it turns out that Carmel was the one to have achieved a proper degree and a lasting career in the housing association.

She suffered a deranging post-natal depression while he indulged Maxine with junk food and bribes. Assuming that Barry’s lack of interest in her proved his serial, heterosexual infidelity she blossomed briefly during an extramarital affair before sinking back into resentment born of the piercing loneliness of her marriage, of waiting to be loved and desired.

Deceiving everyone, trying to live up to the immigrant ideal, Barry became trapped by his failure to tell the truth.

Apparently oblivious to the chaotic repercussions of his lies, Barry tries and fails several times to summon the courage to “jump into the great abyss of social alienation”, wanting to declare his life-long love for the long-suffering Morris but recoiling from the shame. He dissembles and pretends but he is not alone.

Almost all the characters nurse secrets and, bright and flawed, they all begin to defy the reader’s expectations as Evaristo shifts perspectives.

It takes half a century, plus a huge alcoholic bender in Carmel’s absence overseas, for things to unravel. Then, “five decades of deception, disillusionment and self-destruction” teeter; illusions convulse and are shattered and masks drop.

Mr Loverman is a pacey fable about summoning both the daring and the art to live a truthful life and her writing simply fizzes with musical energy.

Twisting up the tragedy of Lear and the foolery of Oberon it is a tenderly bitter-sweet, sometimes hilarious, tale of the complicated untruths that can fester at the core of a tight community, the bluster that masks fear and, ironically, the importance of restraint.

Ashley Madison - Life is Short. Have an Affair. Leader in married dating and extramarital affairs. www.ashleymadison.com

This is at Chanonry Point , near Fortrose , on The Black Isle , and is a memorial to Kenneth MacKenzie ,The Brahan Seer, known in his native Gaelic as Coinneach Odhar .

Having become famous as a diviner and wit, he was invited to Seaforth territory in the east, to work as a labourer at Brahan Castle near Dingwall, in what is now the county of Easter Ross. This led to an unfortunately unforeseen sequence of events on the Seer's part, leading to his barbaric murder at Chanonry Point, allegedly burnt in a spiked tar barrel, on the command of Lady Seaforth. The simple prediction that led to his downfall — that the absent Earl of Seaforth was having extramarital sex with one or more women in Paris — seems not unlikely, but of course highly outrageous to Lady Seaforth, as it cast her husband in a scandalous light and heaped embarrassment on her.

Some of his notable predictions apparently included the following :-

THE CALEDONIAN CANAL

"One day ships will sail round the back of Tomnahurich Hill"

This is a remarkable prediction - firstly, there was already a passage for shipping - the River Ness, on the opposite south side of Tomnahurich Hill from today's canal - and the only choice for boats in the Brahan Seer's day. To say that ships would sail round the opposite side of the hill from the river seemed highly illogical to those who first heard the prediction.

But the prediction came true. Today the 19th century Caledonian Canal forks off from the River Ness at the eastern head of Loch Ness - which continues its route through Inverness town centre - and heads north-east "round the back of Tomnahurich", exiting into the Moray Firth at Clachnaharry .

FAIRBURN TOWER

According to this prophecy, "The day will come when the MacKenzies of Fairburn shall lose their entire possessions; their castle will become uninhabited and a cow shall give birth to a calf in the uppermost chamber of the tower." This apparently heralded the demise of the MacKenzies of Kintail and Seaforth.

In 1851, the now-ruined tower was being used by a farmer to store hay, and a cow gave birth in the garret. It is believed that the animal, following a trail of hay, entered the tower, climbed to the top, and got stuck. Both the cow and the calf were taken down five days later, allowing enough time for people to come and see the prophecy fulfilled. This was one of four prophecies by the Seer regarding Fairburn, at least three of which are reputed to have been fulfilled .

THE BRIDGES OVER THE RIVER NESS

He predicted that when there were five bridges over the River Ness in Inverness that there would be worldwide chaos. In August 1939 there were five bridges over the Ness and on September 1 the same year Hitler invaded Poland.

He said that when there were nine bridges that there would be fire, flood and calamity. The ninth bridge was built in 1987 and in 1988 the Piper Alpha disaster happened.

NINIAN CENTRAL PLATFORM

A popular urban legend on the oil rigs of Scotland is that the Seer predicted the appearance of a "one-legged, fire-breathing giant from Nigg". And in due course the mono-pod (one-legged) oil platform the Ninian Central was built on the west coast at Kishorn and installed in the North Sea, where it has produced oil and flared (burned) gas for many years since. Nigg is the site of another Scottish oil rig manufacturing facility across the Cromarty Firth and The Sutors from Cromarty on the Black Isle, 10 miles from Chanonry Point.

BONAR BRIDGE SWEPT AWAY

According to "The Land of the Mountain and the Flood" by Alasdair Alpin MacGregor: The Brahan Seer predicted that the bridge over the Kyle of Sutherland at Bonar Bridge would be "swept away under a flock of sheep". On January 29, 1892 the Bridge was swept away by a flood. Eyewitnesses "likened the foam-current to a densely packed flock of sheep " .

Most extramarital affairs happen at work, there are reports saying that around 50% of affairs happen at work. It is not uncommon for a married person to get romantically involved with someone at work. Most people spend a large amount of their time at work with their co-workers and a workplace is a perfect place where the romance between colleagues could start. It can be really scary to know those office extramarital affairs is very common.

How office extramarital affairs get started?

Office extramarital affairs could start innocently through friendship or great chemistry at work. People at work experience the same pressures, hardships, they have common goals and they even celebrate their victories together. They eat together, sometimes travel together and eventually they share or talk not only about work but also about their personal lives. They can develop great bond and camaraderie by working every single day together. They are like soldiers going to the same battlefield every day and we all know that soldiers often have a strong bond with each other. This camaraderie can develop into something deeper through time, the friendship may become emotional intimacy especially to those of the opposite sex. Eventually, they will find themselves comparing their co-worker from their spouses and find their co-worker more appealing, more understanding, more appreciative, more fun, more exciting, etc. Because of this emotional attachment, they will begin to share feelings and things that they supposed to share only with their spouses. They may also end up calling or texting each other even after work or worst meeting each other privately outside work. This emotional affair can blossom into the physical affair but even though it stays in the emotional affair level, it is also a form of cheating and the impact on your marriage is the same as committing sexual infidelity.

No one is safe because office extramarital affair can happen to anyone unless you have a conscious effort to avoid it.

How to protect yourself from office extramarital affair?

Avoid the temptation. Have the conscious effort to not put yourself in a situation where you could be tempted to get involved with office extramarital affair. For instance, if a business travel came up, as much as possible avoid traveling with an office mate of the opposite sex. If it is unavoidable to travel with a colleague of the opposite sex, avoid being alone with your co-worker when traveling. Do not only hang out or befriend co-workers of the opposite sex but blend your circle of friends with people of the same gender as yours or preferably have more married couples as friends.

Set boundaries with co-workers of the opposite sex. Although it cannot be avoided to work with colleagues of the opposite sex, office extramarital affairs can be avoided if you will set boundaries. You are married and no longer single and there are things that you cannot do now. In everything you do, you have to remember that you are already married. Getting emotionally intimate with a co-worker of the opposite sex is disrespecting and cheating your spouse. Always put yourself in the shoes of your spouse and ask yourself if what you are going to do or say to your colleague can affect your marriage.

Have a regular date night and conversation with your spouse. The routine of a married life could make marriage less exciting. Sometimes couples are so pre-occupied with their work and household responsibilities that romance takes a backseat. To avoid office extramarital affairs, have a regular date night and time alone with your spouse to communicate better and to strengthen your marriage.

Be open and honest with your spouse. People who keep secrets from their spouses are more likely to disclose the secret to their office mates and this could develop into something romantic if they are of the opposite sex. Avoid the temptation of confiding to friends at work by being open and honest with your spouse. If you are getting close to an office mate of the opposite sex, it is best to talk about it with your spouse to prevent things from getting out of hand.

Make your spouse your best friend. Your spouse is not just your spouse but she or he can be your best friend too. No one can love you and protect you more than your spouse and so your spouse is the perfect best friend that you can have. Friends go through hardships together, play together and celebrate together so do these things with your spouse and not with another person outside your marriage. Of course, aside from growing together, it is also beneficial to grow individually and do things with other people than your spouse but like what was mentioned earlier, set your boundaries and though you can have fun with other people, your best friend should always be your spouse. If your spouse is your best friend, office extramarital affairs will not find its way to you.

Value your marriage. Spouses are tempted to cheat because they do not put a high value on their marriage. It is important that after God, the most important thing in your life is your marriage, after all, it is a union blessed by the Higher Power. If you value your marriage, you will not do things to dishonor your marriage and you will not ruin the trust of your spouse. Engaging in an office extramarital affair is not only disrespecting your marriage but it is putting your marriage at risk. Infidelity is the main cause of divorce and if you do not want to experience the pain of divorce, you have to avoid office extramarital affairs.

The Postcard

A Marriott Series postcard that was posted in Hastings on Saturday the 5th. September 1908 to:

Miss G. Roper,

Liverpool Street Hotel,

London.

The pencilled message on the back of the card was as follows:

"Going great - just off

to the Lovers' Seat while

the sun shines".

Marguerite Ruest-Pitre

So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?

Well, on the 5th. September 1908, Marguerite Ruest-Pitre was born in Quebec. She was a Canadian conspirator in a mass murder carried out by the bombing of an airliner. The 13th. and last woman to be hanged in Canada, she was executed aged 44 on the 9th. January 1953.

She ran a boarding house at Saint-Roch, and became known by her neighbours and later by the press as 'Madame le Corbeau' ('Madame Raven') because she always wore black clothes.

Jeweller and watchmaker Albert Guay was having an extramarital affair with a 19-year-old waitress named Marie-Ange Robitaille. Marguerite helped to arrange liaisons between them.

Guay decided to murder his wife, the former Rita Morel. He first considered poisoning her, but finally decided to kill her by bombing an airliner on which she was a passenger.

The Bombing of a Passenger Airliner

Guay asked Pitre's brother, clock-maker Généreux Ruest, to manufacture a bomb using dynamite, batteries, and an alarm clock. Pitre purchased the dynamite at a hardware store, claiming it was to be used to clear a field.

On Friday the 9th. September 1949, Rita Guay was scheduled to board Canadian Pacific Air Lines Flight 108, at L'Ancienne-Lorette, a suburb of Quebec City. On the day of the flight, Albert Guay purchased a $10,000 insurance policy on his wife, which he would attempt to collect three days later.

Pitre delivered the package containing the bomb to the plane, supposedly for mail delivery, Albert secreted it in Rita's luggage, and Rita boarded the plane, unaware of the danger.

The flight was delayed five minutes at takeoff; this apparently thwarted Guay's desire to have the explosion take place over the Saint Lawrence River, which would have made forensic examination of the crash impossible with the technology then available.

The bomb instead exploded over Cap Tourmente in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, causing the plane to crash and killing Rita Guay and all of the other 22 people on board.

Arrests and Convictions

Guay was arrested two weeks after the crash, and put on trial in February 1950; he was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging, and was executed in Montreal on the 12th. January 1951.

After his conviction, Guay claimed that Ruest and Pitre had knowingly abetted his plans; it has been speculated that Guay's motive in denouncing his accomplices was to buy time to delay his own execution, believing that he would be called to testify at their trials.

As a result, Ruest was arrested on the 6th. June 1950, and Pitre on the 14th. June 1950. Ruest maintained his innocence, claiming that he thought the bomb was to be used to clear tree stumps from a field. He was tried, with Guay testifying against him, and convicted in November 1950; sentenced to death by hanging, and he was executed in Montreal on the 25th. July 1952.

Pitre attempted suicide, but failed. Her trial began on the 6th. March 1951. She, too, maintained her innocence, claiming that Albert Guay had told her that the package she was transporting on the day of the bombing contained a statue. However she was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.
