Docent said these tigers will be extinct in the wild by 2020. WTH! Breeding programs hope to keep the species alive, if only in zoos and sanctuaries. However, limited genetic diversity makes such preservation efforts difficult due to what is effectively inbreeding, which commonly exposes genetic flaws. Very sad.

This little critter scuttled across my path and into the undergrowth one morning while out on my early morning walk whilst on holiday in Mauritius, thought they were supposed to be extinct.

The most complete mastodon skeleton ever found in Pennsylvania. Opened in a new exhibit in Harrisburg on January 23rd. Beautiful!

We took a tour to see the sunrise and then bike down the volcano, about 35 miles. This is an extinct volcano on Maui, about 10,000 feet high. The temperature was around 40F degree with the wind blowing 30 miles an hour. I could barely hold my hands steady.

No post-edit, no crop.

very nearly extinct, according to the sign.

Isisfordia is an extinct genus of crocodyliform closely related to crocodilians that lived in Australia during the Middle Cretaceous (Albian–Cenomanian). The type species, I. duncani. (named after the discoverer; former Deputy Mayor of Isisford, Ian Duncan) was discovered in the Winton Formation in Isisford, Queensland, Australia in the mid-1990s. Most of the animal was discovered, with the exception of the front portion of the skull. On a later expedition to the location, paleontologists discovered a complete skull which differed from the original specimen in size only. The discovery of the remains led paleontologists to suggest that the group including modern crocodilians first evolved 30 million years earlier than previously thought, during the Cretaceous period on the supercontinent Gondwana.
