Seaside enforcement

In 2006 new scientific data revealed that waves along the Dutch coast possessed more energy and - in cases of a super storm - could run up higher on the Hondsbossche and Pettemer sea dike then always had been assumed. As a result the possible occurences of up rolling waves overtopping the sea dike doubled.

The sea dike no longer met the safety criteria to withstand a possible super storm on the North Sea to occur once in 10.000 years.

Following five years of studies and consultations with the local community, it was decided to reduce the overtopping by creating a beach in front of the sea dike.

The main advantage of a beach is an optional extra reinforced - by sand suppletion - in case of further sea level rise. Additionally the new beach is expected to generate more tourism, stimulating the local economy. The replenishment activities will be carried out with four trailing suction hopper dredgers depositing 40 million cubic meters of sand sourced from sea. P1290859

Porthmadog, known locally as "Port", is a small coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd, in Wales. It has been so spelt officially since 1974. Before 1972 in the administrative county of Caernarfonshire, it lies 5 miles (8 km) east of Criccieth, 11 miles (18 km) south-west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, 25 miles (40 km) north of Dolgellau and 20 miles (32 km) south of Caernarfon. It developed in the 19th century as a port exporting slate to England and elsewhere, but since the decline of the industry it has become a shopping centre and tourist destination. It has easy access to Snowdonia National Park and is the terminus of the Ffestiniog Railway. The 1987 National Eisteddfod was held in Porthmadog. The community includes the nearby villages of Borth-y-Gest, Morfa Bychan and Tremadog.

This week "FUZZY"

You can pick from one of the following interpretations...

1 : marked by or giving a suggestion of fuzz

2 : lacking in clarity or definition

3 : being, relating to, or invoking pleasant and usually sentimental emotions

Beer makes me go fuzzy!

Took loads of shots...tried to get the can fuzzy...also tried to get the bubbles fuzzy...wanted to leave the important bit...the beer in focus!

Happy MM Everyone!

Greedy seagulls trying to grab the bread my daughter was feeding to the ducks.

The Zinnias attrack a lot of butterflies, bugs, and birds. I like playing with exposure and speed for different results. Below are 2 more shots of the Tiger Swallowtail.

Been away for a break up to Loch Sween near Lochgilphead in Western Scotland with the kids and this shot sort of sums it up.

We had some great new places to explore and some decent breaks between the showers.

Found some fabulous locations and places I need to revisit in photography mode..

is the underestimation of content more than double the overestimation of our wildest dreams?

getting an image explored used to be my main adjudicator of a successful photo. i also became obsessed with the individual stats of the photo, and seemed to get hung up on all statistical trimmings. but i've since realised the concept and the way a photo makes us feel is so much more important than what flickr decides is good by exploring it. photography, like art is subjective, so if no one else likes it, even better.
