The Punakha Dzong in Bhutan is an impressive architectural masterpiece with a rich history. Built in 1637, it was once the capital and government seat and hosted the coronation ceremonies of Bhutan's kings. The striking gold dome was added in 1676, and other enhancements, such as the chenmo thondrol, a grand thangka displayed during the annual tsechu festival, were incorporated between 1744 and 1763. Despite facing fires, earthquakes, and a glacial lake burst in 1994, the dzong has been extensively restored. I took this photo right after crossing the Bazam bridge, which was rebuilt in 2008 after the original 17th-century bridge was washed away in the 1958 floods. As I walked towards the dzong, I was captivated by the sight of monks strolling alongside it, prompting me to capture a few shots - Punakha Dzong, Punakha, Bhutan.

The Punakha Dzong is a stunning architectural masterpiece in Bhutan, and staying at the Six Senses in Punakha means passing by it every time you arrive or leave the hotel. Although impressive every time you pass, the dzong's full beauty is best captured early in the morning. This postcard features a photograph taken at 5:30 am. Constructed in 1637, the dzong served as the capital and seat of government until the mid-1950s, and all of Bhutan's kings have been crowned here – Punakha Dzong, Punakha, Buthan
