Phénomène météo rare que j'ai pu observer. Explications plus bas.
Rare weather phenomenon that I could observe. Explanations below.
Il suffit d’un vent de 45 km/h au moins (mais pas au-dessus de 70 km/h), associé à de la neige déjà au sol, pour pousser ces rouleaux de manière cylindrique, exactement comme des mains roulent la neige au sol pour construire un bonhomme de neige. Autre condition essentielle, la glace : une bonne épaisseur doit être présente sous la surface enneigée afin que la neige ne tienne pas au sol et puisse glisser facilement avec l’action du vent. La température doit avoisiner les 2°C afin que la neige tienne, tout en fondant légèrement ce qui la rend malléable. La taille de ces rouleaux peut atteindre jusqu’à 60 cm de l’avis de ceux qui les ont observés.
Toutes ces conditions très spécifiques rendent la formation de ce phénomène météo plutôt rare.

Hier elle a eu une prise de sang, qui a l'étonnement général était très bon au niveau des valeurs thyroïdiennes. La dernière fois elles étaient mauvaises, mais je soupçonne qu'elle avait recraché son médicament (la prise de sang doit être faite 4 h après la prise du médicament).
Ca pourrait sembler être une bonne nouvelle, mais du coup ce n'est pas l'explication de son état : elle est déshydratée alors qu'elle boit beaucoup et a encore maigri (elle pèse 2kg390). Ses valeurs rénales sont parfaites elles aussi. Du coup il y a suspiçion de cancer. Je ne vais pas lui faire subir d'autres examens. Elle sera mise lundi sous cortisone en traitement palliatif. Bien entendu je ne la laisserai pas souffrir, mais là elle vient de faire un petit tour au jardin, donc tant qu'elle a la volonté de vivre on se battra ensemble. Maintenant la vétérinare était pessimiste, nous nous approchons inexorablement de la fin......

Of course I won't let her suffer, but she just came back from a little walk in the garden, so as long as she has the will to live, we'll fight together. Now the vet was pessimistic, we are inexorably approaching the end......

Le 12 août j'ai pris ces photos des bébés panthères des neiges au Zoo de Servion, les deux bébés étaient nés en mai et en début de cette semaine, ils sont morts à 3 jours d'intervalle sans doute à cause d'une salmonelle de poulet alors que le zoo de Servion ne leur donne pas de poulet à manger.
Une autopsie est en cours, mais il y a peut-être une explication évoquée par la direction du zoo, les bébés auraient peut-être pu manger un oiseau contaminé.
C'est bien triste car ils étaient si beaux et si jeunes à peine sevrés.

On August 12 I took these pictures of baby snow leopards Servion Zoo, both babies were born in May and earlier this week, they died in three days of interval probably because of salmonella chicken while the Servion zoo does not give them chicken to eat.
An autopsy is underway, but there is perhaps an explanation suggested by the direction of the zoo, babies might have been able to eat an infected bird.
It is very sad because they were so beautiful and so young barely weaned.

On Jan. 29, 2009, between 1 and 2.5 million people demonstrated in France to protest against the Sarkozy's government policies, especially regarding jobs and unemployment and his handling of the crisis. This was the largest demonstration in 20 years according to the labor unions, and in many cities, historical records were broken in terms of participation. The private sector was also present in the street, even some staff from the Paris stock exchange demonstrated ! The national strike, however, was a bit less successful, but clearly, a page has been turned.

My entry to the #bc_wideandtight photo contest on @brickcentral (Instagram).
The goal of this contest is to show 2 pictures of the same scene with different fields of view that may surprise viewers.
I'm more a builder than a photographer, so I decided to make the whole scene in Lego. The first pic shows an idyllic holiday scene, but zooming out, we discover that it's only a billboard in a metro station.

Cette Petite nyctale juvénile se trouvait au milieu d'une chaussée très passante en début de matinée. Elle semblait en choc peut-être à la suite d'une collision avec un objet quelconque.
Heureusement une jeune personne bienveillante l'a sauvé de cette mauvaise passe.
C'est à l'entrée de l'urgence d'un grand hôpital universitaire de Montréal que m'attendait cette gentille dame.
Évidemment, je ne me suis jamais autant senti comme un ambulancier qu'à cette occasion.
J'ouvre une parenthèse pour dire à tous mes abonnés et lecteurs à quel point c'est enrichissant de faire ce genre de bénévolat pour UQROP.
On rencontre des gens tellement charmants. Ceux qui nous attendent avec l'oiseau en difficulté et l'équipe à l'autre bout qui nous accueille à bras ouverts, pleine d'attentions et d'explications. Une équipe du tonnerre, vraiment.
Je n'avais jamais eu l'occasion de voir une juvénile de cette espèce avant aujourd'hui.
A juvenile Saw-whet owl upon her admission at the Raptors' Clinic. I picked her up at the emergency entrance of a major Montreal University Hospital. She had been found earlier that morning on a busy urban street by a concerned citizen and kept safe until my arrival. She was probably only suffering from shock as her wings and paws seemed uninjured. Had she been left unattended she would probably have been run over.
Here she is being inspected upon arrival. This is a busy time at the Clinic in this late nesting season. When her turn comes, she will have all the routine exams and will eventually be returned to the wild if all checks out.
I had never seen a juvy of this species before. This is one of the perks of the voluntary work I do for the Raptors' Clinic.
Explication - Part three of 3
Most likely, this will find its way to a five part series, but I am waiting for one more exterior composition to materialize.
I decided on this composition, as I wanted to show how a slight shift in position can change the perspective. Very little movement from the first in this series.

Pushkar (Inde) - Dans la cité du lotus (Pushkra) comme dans toutes les villes sacrées de l’Inde, les bains sacrés sont incontournables. Ce rituel a une double fonction : religieuse et hygiénique. Selon les textes sacrés, « les eaux, si elles lavent le corps lavent, purifient aussi les âmes ». Certes, c’est un peu plus compliqué - tout en Inde est compliqué pour un occidental -, mais l’idée est là.
Bien entendu, il y a tout un protocole complexe à observer. Mais dans ce pays, rien n’est inscrit dans le marbre. Le croyant n’appliquera pas le protocole à la lettre. Il tiendra compte de son état d’esprit du moment, de la conjoncture astrale, de l’heure à laquelle il prendra son bain et de bien d’autres paramètres.
Ces explication succinctes je les tiens d’un ami indien qui s’amusait de mes questions. Il a fini par me dire en se moquant gentiment : « vous être trop rationalistes vous les européens. Vous voulez toujours des réponses. Si tu veux vraiment comprendre notre religion, il te suffit de te convertir et avec le temps, tu comprendras peut-être ». Trop compliqué pour moi qui suis aux antipodes d’un mystique, même si la culture indienne me fascine.
Ritual ablutions
Pushkar (India) - In the city of the lotus, as in all the sacred cities of India, the sacred baths are a must. This ritual has a double function: religious and hygienic. Pour la découvrir il vous faudra chercher le gardien de l’église et lui donner 1,50€ par personne. Il vous échangera alors cet argent contre un ticket, vous donnant accès à la Chapelle d’Or (Cappella del Coro), par une porte discrète. Vous tomberez sur des petites salles contenant des sièges dans lesquels les doges se sont assis par le passé, des fresques superbes, un polyptyque sublime… Avec une fiche d’explications en français, si besoin. Continuez votre chemin et empruntez un petit escalier qui descend… Bienvenue dans la crypte, en partie inondée, qui date du Xe siècle. Huit des plus anciens Doges de Venise reposent ici.
Ce qu’il y a de plus étonnant c’est que cette crypte est peu connue des touristes.

Ceci dit, cette version est assez contestée, certains affirmant plutôt qu'Antwerpen viendrait de aan het werpen qui désigne la jetée du port.
Certes, l'histoire de Brabo n'est qu'une légende, mais elle cache probablement une réalité historique : des archéologues ont découvert près du Steen les traces d'une implantation datant du Ier siècle et les restes d'un site romain. Il semblerait qu'Anvers fut habité bien plus tôt qu'admis actuellement.

Druon Antigone demanded a right of passage over the Scheldt and cut off the hand of the bad payers. Brabo killed the giant, cut off his hand and threw it into the river. According to this explanation the name Antwerpen (Dutch of Antwerp) would come from hand werpen (hand = hand, werpen = throw, in Dutch). That said, this version is quite contested, some asserting rather that Antwerpen would come from aan het werpen which designates the jetty of the port.
Of course, Brabo's history is only a legend, but it probably hides a historical reality: archaeologists discovered near the Steen the traces of an implantation dating from the 1st century and the remains of a Roman site. It would seem that Antwerp was inhabited much earlier than currently admitted.

Les autorités devraient s’emparer de l’IA, avec le monde académique, pour la mettre au service du bien public !
En effet, nous devons nous mettre à l’évidence … les capacités des réseaux neuronaux, comme ChatGPT, sont époustouflantes et échappent à notre compréhension !
Personne ne s’attendait à ce que l’IA évolue autant !
Ses concepteurs sont tellement bluffés qu’ils ont avancé cette équation : plus de puissance, plus de paramètres, plus de mots !
On va l’amener encore plus loin dans cette course effrénée à la complexification, parce que la complexification va donner encore plus d’intelligence … et dès lors, nous la comprendrons de moins en moins !!!
Je pense cependant qu’il y a une manière très positive de faire de l’IA mais l’explication tangible pour y arriver n’est pas encore vraiment au programme 🤔

The authorities should take advantage of AI, with the academic world, to put it at the service of the public good !
Indeed, we must face the facts… the capabilities of neural networks, like ChatGPT, are breathtaking and beyond our comprehension !
No one expected AI to evolve this much !
Its designers are so amazed that they came up with this equation: more power, more parameters, more words !
We will take it even further in this frantic race towards complexity, because complexity will give even more intelligence... and from then on, we will understand it less and less !!!
However, I think that there is a very positive way of doing AI but the tangible explanation to achieve it is not really on the agenda yet 🤔

Strange context of this image:
1. A sunny July day, not far (thirty meters) from a meadow full of wildflowers on a slope in the Pyrenees. This young woman chose to lie down with her dog on the scorching asphalt of a parking lot, right in front of a garage door that could open at any moment.
2. A man, in his sixties, who was mowing the grass in the meadow above, noticed the young woman. He spontaneously picked some wildflowers, made a bouquet, and went down to give it to her.
3. Perhaps disappointed by the brief exchange of words, the man eventually went back up to his meadow. The young woman continued to sunbathe on the asphalt for a while. She finally got up and left with her dog, not before throwing the bouquet of flowers behind her.
Any explanation would be appreciated.

Contexte étrange de cette image :
1. Soleil de juillet, non loin (trente mètres) d'une prairie fleurie sur une pente pyrénéenne. Cette jeune femme a préféré s'allonger avec son chien sur le bitume brûlant d'un parking, juste devant un portail de garage susceptible de s'ouvrir à tout moment.
2. Un homme, sexagénaire occupé à faucher la prairie en surplomb, a remarqué la jeune femme. Il a spontanément constitué un bouquet de fleurs sauvages, est descendu le lui remettre.
3. Peut-être déçu par les quelques mots échangés, l'homme a fini par remonter dans son pré. La jeune femme a prolongé un certain temps son bronzage sur asphalte. Elle a fini par se lever et quitter les lieux avec son chien, non sans avoir jeté le bouquet de fleurs derrière elle.
Toute explication est bienvenue.

Real Alpenglow on Mont Blanc.
After the sun diseapered behind the horison the mountains turned purple for a while showing this epic light.
Its hard to believe that on this picture, the mountains are not directly enlightened by the sun. The explication comes from a well known optical phenomenon.
The beautiful colorful light of an alpenglow is caused by the reflection of the light into water or ice particles that are low in the atmosphere. This is the biggest defining difference between an alpenglow and a regular sunrise or sunset.

Explication du process en français.
A panel explication for the 'toue' shelters of the Azun explains that they are characteristic of the mountain life of the valley from between the end of the 19th century and the very beginning of the 20th century - a period of 50 years?! In rural terms 50 years constitutes a fad. This official information panel implies that Shepherds had a fad for building cabines into appropriate erratics... this does not seem right to me. The rural way of thinking is practical, opportunist and deeply linked to the constraints and opportunities presented. Unlike limestone, granite is a devil to shape - especially if you are far from electricity. Mountain weather is nothing like city weather and if you are practically alone you need to find a solution as you guard your animals. The argument that man only started to exploit the summer mountain pastures in recent history also seems to be counter intuitive and people do not initiate ideas to coincide with early written records.
