So I got a couple new ND filters recently, a 6-stop and a 10-stop. I wanted to see how they would perform when stacked, and this is one of the results.
The good: the two filters together are really dark. This was a 25-second exposure at f/6.3 (ISO 400) taken under bright clouds.
The bad: the two filters together produced some funky and unexpected colors on the image, and worse, the colors were different in different parts of the image! So, frustrated with that, I cheated and made the whole image mono while processing.
But the filters did their job in turning the choppy waters of the lake almost glassy in the image. Some flow lines in the water are visible below the reflection of the bridge.
My takeaway: I don't need to stack the filters. The 10-stop ND should provide all the long-exposure opportunities I'll need.
Second experiment in my next post.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours. It is an amazing journey, and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
Again experimenting with off camera flash.

A couple weeks ago, I read an article where a guy put tape on the floor, and his cat would go sit in the middle, as if it was a box. He claimed cats will do this because they can't tell the difference between a low sided box and just the tape box. Cats like to be inside cozy areas.
I tried this.....as you can see, Baby decided to 'think outside the box'. Good for him.
(Sorry, not a great photo.)
Some of the photos my phone takes are "superbly lit" by the best kind of natural day light I could ever hope for. But it also "reveals" a lot about my face details and the pores of my skin, and other "age defects" :( So, in an effort to "help" my feminine appearance, I could not resist, for once, some experimental retouching... Simply made my skin "softer". I guess I could use a lot of tricks but my goal is not to cheat but to show the person you would meet if we ever have the chance to meet in person, one day
sparrows are regular visitors. lovely to see them :)
panasonic lumix tz70
this afternoon i continued to experiment with my new camera. i used the scene and macro settings together with the focus lever. it's a lovely camera to hold and the weight all ok ... but practise, practise, practise
i had been waiting for a panasonic lumix tz90 but there is a global shortage of point and shoot cameras petapixel.com/2021/10/15/the-camera-industry-is-trapped-d... i was on various waiting lists but no stockist had any idea when it would be available. a panasonic lumix tz70 was in stock last week www.lcegroup.co.uk/New-Equipment-Home/ i bought it rather than have a possible prolonged frustrating wait for the tz90
for many years my garden was a shrubbery flic.kr/p/Lhv9ag which i loved. a picket fence covered in an ivy hedge coming down in a storm meant that over time changes had to happen flic.kr/p/2mn2x8a i'll be glad when the trellis is covered in honeysuckle and jasmine. that's the plan ...

Thanks indeed everyone for your personal comments and also your support from selected groups.
Experimenting with long exposure. I think it will be a cool shot on a night with a more colorful sunset.

Okay, so this is an experiment combined with an 'I'm so tired, I'm going to sleep' state of an image. But I actually quite liked where it stood, in its weird sort of blendly forest present state. So I decided to let it just remain like that instead of staying awake...day 18, yay!
An experiment with ICM (Intentional Camera Movement), this won't appeal to many as a railway photograph, I mean it's all out of focus and looks a mess, but it does have some appeal to me.
This is just an experimental shot and process which in all honesty I didn't think anything would result, with the camera set on a longish exposure, I clicked and rotated the camera as the train approached, I did another when the train had passed, two images are straightened and merged in Photoshop with a multiply layer blend. There are no other Photoshop special effects.
A Transpennine Class 185 passing through Morley station - Friday 28th June 2019 4:38 pm.
I bought an eyeshadow palette thinking I’d convert it to a watercolor palette, but before washing out the eyeshadow paste and replacing it with tube watercolors, I thought I’d try doing a painting using the eyeshadow colors. They contain mica and are shiny. It doesn’t really show up in the scan. I mixed in some Chinese white watercolor paint to get the bright whites. Image is about 5.5x10 inches (25.5x14 cm).
I used the included "brush". It’s a stick with a small, soft, cheap brush on one end and a foam applicator on the other. I like the colors and soft look like pastel. A fun experiment for. $4.
This was a time where I would add a little this and a little that to make things pop off....well it's still da same format but like time things have advanced....
I really wanted this build to feel very alien. The dark orange ground with the strange alien creatures slowly infecting the land and everything around it. The vibrant green river flowing between the legs of the elevated research station, and some strange yet familiar looking plant life.
The base of this build is 2m x 1.2m and the tower sits at about 1.3m high. This is definitely the tallest build I have ever done and definitely one of my largest. So big that i couldn’t fit it all infringe of my backdrop… luckily I was talking to a fellow exhibitor called Jacqui that offered to help with photoshopping the background to white. I think she did an amazing job with it and I truly appreciate the help, the build simply wouldn’t of looked as nice.
I really enjoyed figuring out the best ways to make all the curves and experimenting with different ways to get the toxic green of the river.
I really wanted to experiment with some lighting and a couple motorised features for this build. I wanted to limit myself to official lego products mainly because I am a lego purist and I really enjoy the challenge that the official lego electronics provide. I used one M motor for the mechanism for the black alien creatures in the ground to make them look like they were breathing, 10 lego power functions LEDs, 1 classic lego LED unit for the flashing lights on the cargo ship and 7 lego power functions extension cables. All of this powered by 1 power functions battery unit. I had a lot of fun trying to hide all these components and yet still be easy to access like the hidden button for the power and a hidden drawer for easy access to the batteries.
Guess who's off sick?
Anyway, playing about with some filters I was given by a friend - this is a "soft spot" filter, which I guess is meant to give kind of the same effect as a lensbaby (ie only one part in focus, the rest blurred), but I was quite disappointed as the effect isn't very obvious, in fact it's pretty negligible...so I just thought I'd play about and whack on as much grain and noise on it as possible, hence me shooting at ISO 1600, plus adding extra in PS...anyway, I was trying to get some creepy shots of dolls (as you do) and I quite like how they came out...
I had never heard the term Dutch Angle before, I probably would have described it as wonky. I have never set out to take a wonky picture before. I probably would have made the subject wonky if I thought it would help. So today was an interesting experiment.
This is an experiment on editing color. Today I am going to do a course on Elements, hope it will rub off as I feel I lag a lot of knowledge there.
I am one of these city girls who takes the car for every thing, so I can only dream of cycling, but this is also due to extreme workpressure.
