The Trakai Island Castle was built on an island in Lake Galve, near Trakai, Lithuania. The initial construction started in the 13th century and was finished in 1409. Over the next few centuries it was expanded several time and used for various purposes including use as a prison. But it was seriously damaged in the 17th century and abandoned.

Then in the 20th century it was restored over a period of 60 years and is now a major tourist attraction. It is worth a visit.

Often, when I awaken earlier than I'd prefer, I look outside to see if there is a sight such as this. ( Sometimes, it's just before I go to bed.)

I'm frequently pleasantly rewarded !

365/2021 - Expanding Horizons - Day 84 Mar 25 - This piece of driftwood always reminds me of a Sea Serpent guarding the beach!

As more and more Boomers retire, scenes similar to this will be a normal occurrence.

In a month I will be moving back to Wyoming after experiencing this reality first hand.

Although the desert environment can be quite beautiful with its unique ecosystem, seeing it consumed like this is just plain sad.

Expanded or exfoliated vermiculite is utilized based upon its intended application which would determine the size/quality of material (or grade) to be used. For example, smaller grades may have been used in acoustical ceiling/wall treatments and small-to-moderate flakes might have been used as an additive in surfacing plasters or in the once popular spray-applied fireproofing materials, such as proprietary Monokote with Libby-vermiculite produced by WR Grace.

Also shown in background are a few examples of Zonolite advertisements and marketing tools. Celebrity endorsements seem to add a touch of credibility to their featured products, such as using Bing Crosby's face on a Zonolite "leveling rake", even despite the later proven toxic nature of Zonolite.

Another warm, sunny day and another countryside walk. We seemed to climb over an awful lot of these stiles today, some requiring high levels of athleticism to be able to get over them!

Jimmy Buffet.. Mississippian, Faulknerian, and all round good guy...

As the son of a son of a sailor,

I went out on the sea for adventure,

Expanding their view of the captain and crew

Like a man just released from indenture.

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man,

I have chalked up many a mile.

Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,

And I've learned much from both of their styles.

Son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor.

Son of a gun; load the last ton

One step ahead of the jailer.

Now away in the near future, southeast of disorder,

You can shake the hand of the mango man

As he greets you at the border.

And the lady she hails from Trinidad,

Island of the spices.

Salt for your meat and cinnamon sweet,

And the rum is for all your good vices.

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind that our

Forefathers harnessed before us.

Hear the bells ring as the tide rigging sings.

It's a son of a gun of a chorus.

Where it all ends I can't fathom, my friends.

If I knew, I might toss out my anchor.

So I'll cruise along always searchin' for songs,

Not a lawyer, a thief or a banker.

But a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor.

Son of a gun, load the last ton

One step ahead of the jailer

I'm just a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor

The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains.

I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer.

M27 can be found in the constellation of Vulpecula, which is high overhead in summer months. This planetary nebula lies at a distance of about 1227 LY from earth. It's a very bright object easily visible in binoculars. As a result, it's a favourite for stargazers. What we see is the remains of a star like our sun that grew through its red giant stage and cast out its outer shell, leaving little more than its core behind as a white dwarf to irradiate and illuminate the expanding shell of gas. This will be the fate of our own sun in a few billion years.

Since it's cold and the weather is not conducive to going out into the field, I'm looking back through older data I'd collected to process with new tools and techniques. In this case, I combined data from 2 separate sessions shot in the summer of 2019.

STOP ISRAEL BARBARITY

We are not stupid!

******************************************

NEW CHAPTER, MY FRIENDS (30.06.2010): After removing my website link (more than 1,000), I´ve just received the same message and I´m out of the search lists again. Or this has relation with the message above or has no sense...

I´m not allowed by Flickr to link my personal website.... amazing....! After so many years... Maybe it´s a consequence of the Israel message, I don´t want to think bad, but I don´t believe in coincidences, moreover when lots of user are allowed to. If I continue here is because the great number of friends I´ve meet, but I´m taking advantage of this in order to complain and let you see the kind of injustice that Flickr is doing these days. Let´s see who can be more annoying...

Please visit my profile

This is the kind of things that flickr has to take care of (THIEVES):

Where is it said that personal websites are not allowed? I do not do a commercial use of it!!! I´m a economist and work in a saving bank!!

TRUE THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT, MY FRIENDS. IT´S WHAT MAKES ME THINK TO CONTINUE HERE

This old crappy lense seems to do better when it had something big to focus on that filled up the scene consequently this zoomed in shot looks pretty presentable. Here is another shot of Pan Am Railways special with the two OCS FP9As and two heritage GP9s trailing two business cars enroute to the Glory Days of the Railroad Festival in White River Junction. They are seen here at about MP 144.7 on the New England Central Railroad's Palmer Sub (the former Boston and Maine Conn River mainline that NECR predecessor Central Vermont long had trackage rights on) passing the circa 1931 Bellows Falls depot and the old searchlights guarding the diamond crossing with the Green Mountain Railroad's ex Rutland line.

PAR 1 and PAR 2 are ex Canadian National FP9s 6505 and 6516 built in 1954 and 1957 respectively by GMDD. They passed from CN to VIA Rail in 1978 before being picked up by the Conway Scenic in 1995 when they expanded into Crawford Notch. After 15 years spent hauling tourists in the White Mountains 6505 & 6516 would become PAR 1 & 2 when traded to Pan Am Railways in March 2010 for GP38 252 and GP35 216.

factory for expanded clay products - 1965-2012

I first heard this term when watching a programme on TV about crofting in Shetland or Orkney, where the crofter was talking about her childhood, and how she used to collect these for her mother to spin. A hentilaget is a tuft of wool fallen or torn from a sheep's back which is gathered from the pasture or the hillside.

I have been looking out for them ever since, and finally saw some the other day, not too far from home. A wander out with the macro lens and tripod, which don't usually come out on walks with me! Certainly blew the cobwebs and mild lethargy away.

A scarf of mine that's seen better days.

So first of all sorry, I didn’t post this sooner. (School) now about the build.

I really enjoyed the grain technique from Kursk v1, but I felt like the scene was missing an element of carnage. It was the biggest tank battle in history after all. The t 34 is Brickmania. I had the instructions from a book and was like why not go all Brickmania Tanks figs everything. I was also inspired to add onto this scene after watching a really cool video about anti tank tactics on the eastern front www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxJZJflMEiw One of these tactics included climbing on the back of the tank, opening the engine compartment with a hatchet and throwing a grenade into the engine compartment.

Construction criticism appreciated.

thanks for having a look....glad you did & many thanks ....... best bigger ........hope you have a Great Day

The ice shelves along the western shore of Lake Michigan seem to be growing day by day. They are interesting to look at, but very dangerous to explore. They will extend far out into the lake and, if a climber falls through a crack, rescue is practically impossible. It would be like being trapped in an ice cave.

The noise of the volcano and it's power as the lava flows in to the ocean is phenominal. A completely unstoppable force of nature and I can't believe I was lucky enough to have the chance to photograph it. It was, however, a shame that the experience was somewhat ruined by inconsiderate tourists with no respect for other people or the volcano.

You can watch my YouTube Video and see the entire 'behind the scenes' shoot. Warts and all.
