I have no idea what this bird is, but is was in the same enclosure as the Lorikeet at Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida. It is most striking though with it's colours and quite unusual. USA. 2014

Right. I'm waaay behind in processing and uploading my orchid photos. So I'll try a different approach and aim to work on uploading one a day. This photo is from the 19th of September from my trip before last. Phew... lots to go.

The Exotic Spider Orchid is a remarkable little orchid that only grows in shallow soil pockets on coastal granite outcrops along a tiny (~25km) stretch of coast between Cape Naturaliste and Moses Rock. Often found within 20 metres of the ocean, this hardy orchid is a delight to see sprouting among low heath and sometimes seeming to emerge from bare rock. See below for a photo of this same plant with the ocean in the background.
