Apparently, the existence of the dedicated hotline to the White House was a closely guarded secret even from the other residents of the bunker.
The secret was kept behind this locked toilet door. The toilet door was enough to convince people that all that existed behind the door was the only flushing toilet (this was the 40's so flushing toilets weren't everywhere) in the bunker reserved exclusively for the PM. Social engineering at its best if you ask me!
