It's forecast to rain: the first rain since some time in February. The weather has been exceptional and even the midges can't believe it. Effie has gone for a cool down in Loch Ailort, in beautiful clear waters.

This was one of several we found growing on grassy pasture in the New Forest and a glance at our field guide confirmed it was either a Horse or Prince Mushroom, which are both edible and extremely tasty.

They looked almost to good to pick, so should we leave them to rot or have them for dinner? No contest! Fried gently in butter they proved to be possibly the best mushroom we've ever tasted.

Now did we get the ID right? Well, we both survived until morning and had the remainder that day....

Glorious sunflower. Backlight provided by a Chicago setting sun.

If you know me, you know I don't post let alone shoot GT-Rs. But this is something else.

. . . unless collectively, we all agree to save the planet that supports us.

Queen Anne's Lace, bergamot and yellow coneflower before sunrise. This has been an exceptional summer on the prairies.

Another one of those idioms that are popular here: "Let's keep the church within the village." Meaning, let's not go overboard, let's keep it real, let's not get carried away and overdo it.

Whoever built this church, built it outside the village in the first place. Which was a good idea insofar that it is still standing - something that can't be said about many things in the village a bit further upstream.

Unrelated to that, I always find fascinating when there's a place where you see bare stone making up the side of a hill. They're emitting a sense of authority. It's not the same as looking at a plant or something else that grows on the Earth. Not like a pebble or a small rock that you can hold in your hand, and is a piece of the Earth in its own way. In places like this, it's as if you're looking at the Earth itself.

Cracked winged Eros (2013) by Igor Mitoraj (Oederan, March 26, 1944 - Paris, October 6, 2014) - Bronze sculpture - staircase of the cathedral of Noto

Inspired by classical art, Mitoraj was able to blend modern elements, disarticulating and fragmenting its purity to compose a reality in disintegration, populated by tormented characters, relics of a lost world and the brutality of history. To seal an osmotic pairing between archaeology and contemporary art, his bronze sculptures have been temporarily placed in exceptional archaeological sites, such as the Mercati di Traiano in Rome (2004), the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento (2011), Pompei (2016) and Noto (2020-2021) in evocative settings that amplify their intensity.

Another from that gorgeous morning on the Wolds. This was taken as the sun really started to break through the mist with a beautiful warm glow.

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Inverness. Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the cryptozoological Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as "Nessie". Its water visibility is exceptionally low due to a high peat content in the surrounding soil.
