Theme : Red on White Background ».
The commonly accepted symbolism of these colors is that red is the "liturgical color that evokes blood or fire" and "white evokes purity, but even more so divine glory and the brilliance of everything that relates to God. It is the color of the resurrection."

The hermitage of San Bartolomé (Saint Bartholomew) is a temple in the Spanish province of Soria. It is located inside the natural park of the Cañón del Río Lobos, province of Soria, Spain.
It was built in the first quarter of the 13th century, when the Romanesque style gave way to the Gothic, a transition that was reflected in that architectural work.
It was part of a monastery of which only the chapel remains.
It has a plan in the shape of a Latin cross, with three chapels. The two rose windows deserve to be highlighted, one on each gable end of the transept, oriented to the southeast and northwest, whose lattices evoke Muslim influences in the form of the interlacing that makes up a lobed five-pointed star. They have three archivolts of which only the external one is decorated.
Some authors relate its existence to the possibility that for a time it belonged to the Order of the Templars, although there is no documentation that can be verified.
It is possible that it is confused with the Hermitage of San Juan de Otero, of which only the foundations and little else remain.
Although the dedication of the hermitage to Saint Bartholomew, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus who, according to the tradition of the Armenian church, was crucified upside down, skinned alive and beheaded, could be related to the Knights Templar who worshiped various saints who died after being beheaded. Let's not forget the supposed Templar's cult of Baphomet. (Source: Wikipedia)
(Fuente: Wikipedia)

The community of Big Canoe, in the north Georgia mountains, was long known as Wolfscratch. The Disheroon cabin was in another Wolfscratch location and was moved to its present location in Disheroon Valley.
When I think of the labor of gathering the stones, felling the trees, shaping and notching the logs, and laying this foundation and the first course of logs for a family home, I realize how much these people wanted to create a new life for themselves in this beautiful land. I wanted this picture to evoke that story.
I love log cabins, and there are Disheroons in my family tree; so this was one of my favorite haunts.
Excerpt from barnquilttrails.ca/barns/brant-county/wheels/:
Situated between Kenny Creek and Horner Creek, both tributaries of Whitemans Creek, this area is rich in agriculture. Nearby Harley Road is known as the “Quaker Trail” for its historical significance as a route for early settlers. The “Wheels” pattern represents its significance as a transportation route, while the red, white and blue colours evoke the Dutch heritage of the landowners, the Vandenberg family.

Swamps, even the very thought of them, often evoke primitive fear and give rise to legends and speculation among people. They really contain a lot of amazing things - incredible space, immersed in ringing silence, colorful moss cover, proud lonely pines and rare almost transparent dwarf birches. This is a world where sky and earth are inseparable, where the same clouds and the same sun are visible in the swamp mirrors on the bizarrely shaped surface of the water. I stopped at this lake, whose bulge shape attracted me, to drink coffee, and at that moment it started to rain again. I had to take a raincoat out of my backpack instead of a thermos, somewhere inside I was irritated: I was unlucky with the dawn, the weather had some objections to shooting, and I couldn’t even drink coffee when I wanted! It was with these thoughts that I rustled my raincoat irritably until I heard a strange sound that completely absorbed my attention, and I won’t even try to describe it. I stood and was afraid to move, so as not to miss this sound, which either intensified or almost disappeared. It was the rain that sang and its microphone was the thinnest ice on this lake. When the rain stopped, I felt ashamed of my irritation.
The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo is a Catholic temple built in the Historic Center of the city of Quito.
Its construction began in 1540, with a temporary chapel. Later, the construction of the temple that persists to the present day began in 1581, concluding the works of the church in 1688.
The temple is covered with works in cedar with gold leaf, and by numerous paintings and carvings that adorn its interior. Along with the main altarpiece, the ten side chapels that complete the interior of Santo Domingo further enrich the internal body of the church with beautiful works in wood and gold leaf.
Of the former grandeur of the church remains the splendid Mudejar roof, the most beautiful of its kind in the architecture of Quito.
The richest and best known of the chapels in the church of Santo Domingo is the Chapel of the Rosary, which is located on the south side of the transept and is built on three different levels. This chapel looks out onto the old street of La Loma (today called Rocafuerte), where, to overcome another unevenness of the terrain, the architects built the Arch of Santo Domingo, with cone-shaped buttresses evoking lookout posts.

There’s a tradition in Great Britain of naming locomotives, something that I think is not common in other parts of the world. This collage shows each of the names of the TransPennine Express Class 68 locomotives. The overall theme for the class was names evoking images of power and strength.
There are a few exceptions to this, ‘Felix’ being a notable one, bearing the name of the Huddersfield station cat! For this particular locomotive, there is a second set of nameplates in existence, it almost became ‘Felix the CAT’ as a play on the station cat combined with the manufacturer of the locomotives engine!
The project took quite awhile to complete, starting in the dark days of January 2022 with ‘Superb’ (my personal favourite) and finally being completed with ‘Lord President’ in October 2022

“Every bird of prey looks over its shoulder before it goes in for the kill, even a hawk. Even they know to watch their backs – every single one but an eagle. It’s fearless.” - Michelle Horst, Wake Me Up
You needn’t be a serious birder to recognize the yodeling yelp of this striking raptor.
Often described as the sound of Africa, the African fish eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) evokes images of lazy rivers and palm-fringed lake shores, often in duet with the grunting of hippos. And the bird itself, in all its black, white and chestnut finery, is equally unmistakable.
The African fish eagle is not a ‘true’ eagle but belongs to the Haliaeetus genus of sea eagles, alongside seven other species worldwide that include the American bald eagle and the Eurasian white-tailed eagle. This is one of the most ancient genera among all living birds. And it is a sight to behold.
This screaming African Fish Eagle was captured during a photography safari on an early morning boat ride on Lake Baringo, Kenya.

This close-up photograph captures the natural beauty of a ripening pomegranate hanging from its branch. The fruit's vibrant red hue stands out against the soft, blurred green foliage in the background, highlighting its smooth, glossy skin. The pomegranate's distinctive crown-like calyx at the top adds a touch of elegance to the image. The shallow depth of field draws the viewer's attention directly to the fruit, emphasizing its rich color and texture, and evoking a sense of freshness and vitality.
I thought the red color of Death Angels cover from the "Veil of Deception" record would perfectly fit to the former red curtains of this stage... sadly no good quality of this print was to find in the internet.

Mediobogdum Roman Fort Wall slightly rebuilt defending history and evoking mystery against a backdrop of towering majesty in Eskdale

This historic site needs no reflection to admire the work of our ancestors and of nature, but the reflections do add to my consideration and appreciation.
Evening approaches and the shadow slightly encroaches on your imagination building and extending possible former construction and stirring ideas of formal occupation and informal habitation. This fort is built near the mountain passes that vehicles struggle across. To see the well set stone amongst the transformed landscape is to be amongst living food for the soul. Well it is if you have your way of enjoying history.
The feelings so easily generated here give you an insight into the way we humans focus on an importance and build around it, but when our human systems change we walk away from our former focus and take away the resources we were investing. Then the historic value gives us focus renewed to map, to rebuild a little and to conserve the memory making place. The history of this one Roman Fort positioned along a trade route near the edge of a vast Empire still standing near the narrow single track byway that never attracted industrial traffic and road building tells us much about ourselves and human interest.
Mediobogdum Roman Fort on Hardknott Pass in the Lake District has some great slightly rebuilt ruins. The light on this evening was a splendid Sun bath and banquet lighting the way to older notions and even initiation upon a ladder of lights that illuminated all of the ways to become enlightened, ignited and rejoicing in the light. This remote mountain pass with amazing ruin is an almost unbelievable location to find history and to enjoy mystery.

We enjoy winter sunsets for their unique beauty: the crisp, clear air enhances vivid colors, while snow reflects and amplifies the glowing hues. The contrast between the cold environment and the warm tones of the setting sun evokes a sense of comfort and wonder.
Winter sunsets also feel fleeting and rare, offering a tranquil moment of reflection and connection to nature, especially during the quieter, slower pace of the season.

Each fountain looks like the Alamein Fountain in the middle of King's Cross in Sydney.
But they are called the Dandelion Fountains and the QAG describes them in this way:
Australian architect Robert Woodward (1923-2010) gained widespread recognition for his innovative fountain designs. Woodward was commissioned to design the water feature at the Performing Arts Complex and a fountain for the Queensland Art Gallery’s Watermall. The Gallery’s dandelion fountains have a connection to Woodward’s El Alamein Memorial Fountain in Fitzroy Gardens at Kings Cross in Sydney, a modernist design which evokes a huge dandelion of water. The Gallery’s grouping of nine smaller sphere-shaped nozzle spray heads are radially arranged on stalks to create the impression of a dandelion, the fine mist of water makes a sphere of water, the spray sensitive to air changes from convex to concave creating an ever-changing movement.

Its a symbolic series where I want to project the poetic connection between human feelings and the fascinating force of nature.

Fog evokes mystery and mysticism at times, many find fog rather disheartening, but I’ve always found play between fog and light amazing. Add reflections to that and in my opinion it always makes for interesting images, like this one of the Passaic River in New Jersey taken on the Wallington side of the river. The way the silhouettes of the trees reflect on the waters of the Passaic River is wonderful and reminds one of a time when the urban blight of the city on the other side of the river, Passaic wasn’t the principal factor that most associate this area with. Years of conservation after close to 100 years of toxic pollutants being poured unknowingly in the river by the many plants that lined the river during the Industrial Revolution are starting to slowly turn things around. In the city of Catania (Sicily) in occasion of the feast of her patron Saint Agatha, which took place on the 3, 4 and 5 February (this dates commemorates the martyrdom of the young Saint), and on 17 August too (this date celebrates the return to Catania of her remains, after these had been transferred to Constantinople by the Byzantine general Maniaces as war booty, and there remained for 86 years), when the Sicilian city is dressed up to feast, with a scent of orange blossom and mandarins, and its citizens show that they possess an extraordinary love and bond with the young martyr saint Agatha.
The religious sicilian feast of Saint Agatha is the most important feast of Catania, its inhabitants from five centuries, during the three days of the feast in honor of her "Santuzza" (young Saint), create a unique setting, with celebrations and rituals impressive, which means that this event is regarded as the third religious festival in the world (some say the second ...) after the "Semana Santa" in Seville and the "Corpus Christi" in Cuzco, Peru. Unlike other religious holidays, more sober, to Sant'Agata highlights a vocation exuberant typical of the south Italy, who loves to combine the sacred with the profane.
The cult of the young Santa dates back to the third century, when the teenager Agatha was martyred for refusing the roman proconsul Quintiziano. One year after the death of the young Agatha, on 5 February of the year 252, his virginal veil was carried in procession, and it is said it was able to save Catania from destruction due to a devastating eruption of Mount Etna.
The festivities begin with the procession of the "Candlemas", that are giant Baroque wooden "candlesticks" paintings in gold, each representing an ancient guild (butchers, fishmongers, grocers, greengrocers, etc.), which are brought by eight devotees; the candlemas anticipate the arrival of the "float" of Saint Agatha during the procession. Devotees, men and women, wearing a traditional garment similar to a white bag, cinched at the waist by a black rope, gloves and a white handkerchief, and a black velvet cap, and it seems that such clothing evoke nightgown with the qule the Catanese, awakened with a start by the touch of the bells of the Cathedral, welcomed the naval port, in 1126, the relics of the Holy which fell from Constantinople. On float, consisting of a silver chariot sixteenth of thirty tons, which is driven by a double and long line of devotees with the robust and long ropes, takes place the bust of Saint Agatha, completely covered with precious stones and jewels. On February 4, the parade celebrates the so-called "external path" that touches some places of martyrdom in the city of Catania; the next day, the 5 instead the procession along the "aristocrat path", which runs along the main street, Via Etnea, the parlor of Catania. On this day the devotees carry on their shoulders the long candles of varying thickness, there are some not very big, others are fairly heavy, but some skim exceptional weights.
I am posting here, on Flickr, photographs taken during the two days of February 4 and 5 of this year 2023.
